Since Im from a Catholic country, the whole iconography of the Catholic faith is very familiar and everyday to the point I just dont care anymore.
But this game gave me some serious perspective on some of the absurdity of the religion that i never really thought off.
The crucifixion symbol is haunting and shows torture. The saints the religion praises are people who usually underwent horrific deaths. The whole idea of self punishment, and wanting to feel pain and suffering to cleanse a "dirty" soul. Its all these desire for suffering to feel closer to a higher being that is exaggerated in the game, but in some sense very true in the Catholic faith that got me so in awe of the craziness in it.
It makes me think that if a god appeared and acted like the Grievous Miracle, a large portion of humanity might actually welcome it.
