Story Pitch: Masami Hisakawa settled long ago into the calm life of a carpenter, hanging up her sword in favor of a saw and chisel. But when old demons come back to haunt her, she is forced to take up her blade once more to ensure the safety of her adopted home.

Ichinomiya

The two began their walk in silence the next day. Masami could hardly bring herself to look at Toshiro. What glances she took were awkward and apologetic. She tried to keep her mind on the road and what might lie ahead. It was a pleasant enough day at least, she thought.

Don’t like how quiet it is. This isn’t the most popular path, but there should be merchants heading for Amagasaki. Jiro, anything?

I’d tell you if there was, boss. I like you being alive just as much as you do.

Huh. I guess so. Do you suppose the riders from Amagasaki already reached Ichinomiya? Maybe they’re already walling in. Last time I was through here it didn’t look the most...fortified.

What would a wall even do?

Masami had no answer for the tengu. She forged on, Toshiro trailing a bit behind her. They walked without pause for hours. Well past midday Toshiro piped up.

“Um. Mrs. Hisakawa?”

“Hmm? Oh. Yes Toshiro?”

“Were we planning to stop for lunch?”

“Yes, around midday.” She paused and looked up at the sky. “Ah. Right. I’m sorry Toshiro, must’ve lost track of time. I guess let’s do that now.”

They stepped off the side of the path, each unslinging their packs and producing some food from within. They savored their meal as only weary travelers can. When they had finished, Masami stood, motioning for Toshiro to do the same.

“Alright. You know how to keep that sword of yours sharp. But now it’s time for you to learn how to draw it. Let me show you first.”

Toshiro kept his eyes locked to the old samurai. She shifted into a low, stable stance, right foot in front of her left. Her left hand rested on the sheath of her katana while she took hold of the hilt with her right. We are located in Ichinomiya, about 18 minutes outside of Nagoya. We teach to children and adults. We are looking for an energetic, creative and reliable English teacher to join us. Candidates must have a university degree, love working with children, have good interpersonal skills. Position starts March 23, 2020.

Requirements:

1. Native English speaker
2. Must have a university degree
3. Must currently be in Japan
4. Energetic and enthusiastic
5. Proper working visa　*Available sponsorship
6. Commitment to the position for at least one year
   *Not a requirement but a big plus driver's license

Job Details:
- Start date: March or April, 2020.
- Work Days and Times: Days possible M-F or Monday, off Tuesday work Wednesday through Saturday. This is a full-time position (40 hour work week) with 25 to 30 teaching hours
- Salary range: ¥260,000 ~ /month, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Subsidized worker's insurance
- Visa sponsorship available
- About 6 weeks paid vacation / Golden Week, Summer, Obon, Christmas vacation
- Help with housing

Responsibilities include:
- Teaching English to toddlers to adults.
- Lesson planning and creating new classes
- Creating teaching resources

Eruna Ichinomiya is the descendant of the Ichinomiya Family, who, generations prior, helped the Mikagura Family create a school where students could develop special abilities based around their interests and hobbies, making Eruna destined to not only attend that school, but to help save the Mikagura descendant from her distrust and isolation the same way her ancestor did.

All she knows is that her mom has been bugging her to enroll in a high school, her creepy cousin suggested Mikagura Academy, and the pamphlet for the school had the hottest girl she'd ever seen in its promotional material. While attending Mikagura Academy, Eruna quickly discovers her own special ability, makes a ton of new friends, and forms the Surround Eruna Ichinomiya with Pretty Girls/I'll Figure It Out Later/Afterschool Paradise Club.

A note on crystals: Mikagura Academy regularly features special ability showcase battles between students. The uniform rules for these battles rely not on KO of an opponent, but of destroying three floating crystals each student has over their head. These crystals are very easily destroyed, they can be shattered by simply gripping them in your hand, but still require some form of direct attack to do so.

My girlfriend just found out she got accepted for a teaching placement in Japan and has to pick between Ichinomiya, Aichi or Sendai, Miyagi. Currently she is leaning towards Ichinomiya for its proximity to Osaka and Kyoto since both are equal distance from Tokyo. We were wondering if anyone who have visited these two cities can share their experiences/insights.

1. How much of a difference is there between living in a big city and a smaller one?
2. According to my research the cost of living is cheaper in Sendai compared to Nagoya (no data on Ichinomiya) however would this be worth the extra travel time/costs?
3. For anyone who has taught english in Japan, is there a difference between teaching in a large city vs. outside a large city (Nagoya)

I will probably visit her towards the end of her contract (next summer) for about 2-4 weeks and we plan on spending some time in China and Vietnam (possibly Korea) as well. Would one city be preferable over another if we factored this in?

Sorry for the vague questions, we wanted some perspectives from people who have been to Japan to complement our frantic googling over the next day.
