Hey! Every time I get herpes on my lips or around my nose it’s scarring. It’s crusty yellowish and it takes forever to heal. Do you guys have any recommendations? Especially on my lips it leaves little white scars. Thanks!
Dear Redditors, I am currently wrestling with figuring out what to do with my in-laws. I believe that they may have infected my infant son with herpes simplex labialis, i.e. "cold sores". They have both had them for many years and infected two of their three daughters with them. Soon after my son was born and my wife and I saw them getting ready to kiss him when they had an active infection we told them to stop immediately. We told them that they must be extremely careful and that it would be entirely inexcusable for them to give him a lifelong infection like they had already done to my wife and her sister. (Coincidentally this was just a few days after we had to have a separate, serious, difficult conversation with them about forgetting to buckle our son into his car seat when they drive him around.)
In the weeks after this conversation, we either directly observed or were told about possible exposures or close calls. We did not explicitly spell out what would happen if they were to infect him. We honestly aren't 100% sure ourselves as it is a very strange concept for us to formulate consequences for our parents (in-law). Even still, we did state this as seriously as we could, although this is a challenging matter to do with them because they don't really take anything very seriously. My wife is less decided than I am, but I am thinking that the most appropriate response to them causing this permanent harm to my son is something on the order of banning them from seeing him for one year. Obviously I still want them to be a part of his life, but if this truly happened then I want them to be somewhat devastated. I am a very calm person in general, but the thought of them permanently harming my son gets me very steamed up.
Today, after just spending a fun weekend with them, I observed some red spots on my son's lips that look like the early stages of a herpes outbreak. It is still too early to tell, but I am shaken by the thought of what this would mean for us all if it truly is an infection. I know that if he got infected that it was from his grandparents. They passed this infection to my wife and she has been careful and has kept from passing it on to me for over ten years. They have cared for him about once a week on average since he was three months old. In that time they have had multiple occasions (that we know of) where they slipped up and may have infected him.

Okay, first let's settle the argument that a kidnapper would never record videos of her, or let her edit and publish videos and such. It is very possible that the kidnapper is writing the comments, descriptions and the text in the videos, does the editing, filming and publishing of the videos. It may not even be a kidnapper, might be someone like a husband or something - that is what we can't tell.
In one of her videos, while eating she looks up from the table, like she was starled or something, and her smile pretty much drops for a few seconds before returning to eating. It could have been the person pointing a weapon or something to her, maybe a sign that if she doesn't eat that, she dies or she gets hurt. Another point that adds up to someone forcing her to eat.
There's also the pretty famous video where the camera and the grill move a bit, while the caption notes: "Nobody is here while i'm recording video, I'm alone at home". That is very hard to believe, considering the fact the grill literally moves, and the camera changes the angle a few times and zooms in, which cannot be done by a single person, WHILE also eating. She even looks the first time the camera moves, like she had no idea what was going to happen.
The voices are pretty easy to hear too, "Hurry up", "More", "The spoon", all of which are in english, while the girl has spoken only in a french accent, in her first video. There's no denying those.
The bruises on her arms and lip are obviously not medical conditions, like "herpes labialis" as she claims - herpes labialis does not look like that on lips.
The captions in the videos, and the comments & descriptions of her videos only make it worse.
"EVERYTHING is OK for me ! [...] Nobody forcing me to eat and I have any health problem !" This shows that whoever is managing her channel is definitely not a native english speaker, and I'll rule out native French and Canadian people, because those countries have good schools, it would just be shameful and laughably bad to have such writing.
From my experience with foreign people, from what I find and read online, it could be someone from Asia, they usually write like this: "EVERYTHING is OK for me !", including the space between "me" and the exclamation mark. Another example would be "I LOOOVE what i do, be sure !", or "Thank's you".
Then again, there might have been some videos where she captioned them, considering the "So delicioOouS" SOS caption, or HELP being spelled from the 4 captio

Got in touch with Annelise who was more than willing to answer some of your questions in regards to the study of peptoids for the treatment and prevention of viral diseases including HSV1/2. Sounds like a very promising scientific discovery!
- How long have your Peptoids been in development ?
I first had the idea to develop sequence-specific peptoid oligomers as mimics of natural human host defense peptides in 1997, and got the project seriously started a few years later, when I was able to recruit my first Ph.D. student who works on the project, James Patch (now working at Genentech in SF). James and I published our first paper on antimicrobial peptoids in 2003! And we've continued to study them, in various ways, since then!
Initially we focused on very fundamental studies of peptoid molecules, their structures and activities as antibacterials, then as antifungals. We did that for many years, and published a lot of peer-reviewed research articles about them. More recently, I found a new collaborator, Professor Gill Diamond at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, who shares my interest in the particular human host defense peptide LL-37, which has the property of being antibacterial, antifungal, and also antiviral. Gill studies HSV-1, and he was kind enough to test our peptoids against two different viruses, HSV-1 and SARS-CoV-2. And several of our peptoids were quite active as antivirals!
- Was the research initially theorised for a range of virus, or a specific virus?
We knew that the natural human host defense peptide that our peptoids mimic, LL-37, is a very broad-spectrum antiviral. We started first with HSV-1 because of its high importance, because it affects at least 177M American adults, and because it is nicely amenable to a topical treatment as well as an oral treatment (we hope to develop the peptoids to be delivered via both routes).
- In a laboratory setting, the peptoid eliminates all of the COVID-19 strains. Do you believe that this medication which has the potential to lessen the effects of the pandemic, would see fast tracked FDA approval, or approval for emergency use as the current covid-19 vaccines have received? And if so would it be easily accessible to the general public as current anti-viral are?

I am a male and I was diagnosed with herpes (hsv2) since April 2020. Had 1 OB every 2 months but it looks like the fucker is getting resistence to Valtrex (500mg a day, 1000mg on OB) and the OB are getting more frequent.. But to be fair I am living a really stressed time… As I saw that usually it intends to get better after 1 year or 2 I hope I will be ok. Now I have this outbreak for a week now. Trying to fight it with just 1 pill… but now rise to 2. Any advices or similar experiences? What do you think is better :
1- try to take a higher dosage of medicine during OB until no sores are left and no itchy, and get more side effects in the future?
2- or just take 500mg daily usual dosage and wait with a bit pain and just double dosage for 2 or 3 days max during outbreak, with a bit less efects?
Meanwhile I see that is hard to find a post that organize a generic treatment, or kind of a receipt we could try and see what´s best for us . Here is my research of many reading hours and my guinea pig experience for you:

- Boric Acid for cleaning – prescribed by doctors so ok, don’t use it regularly

- Alcaline food (Quit coffee, sugars, almonds, trying to shorten meat) – hard to quit meat… but still didn´t saw such a diference as I started 2 weeks ago because of this OB and I don´t want to keep taking 2 pills of Valtrex

- Lysine (started 2 weeks ago 500mg a day)- still on outbreak, so let´s see after this one OB
- Vitamin C, B, Zinc – Haven´t tried
- Vitamin D, E, adenosine monophosphate – Haven´t tried
- Sauna? – Haven´t tried
- Alcohol, iodine, Neosporin to pass on sores - Iodine same as propolis or valaciclovir cream. Haven´t tried the others.

Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
