I'm starting another re-watch, and I just finished "Deep Throat" (S1 E2). As much as I love The X-Files, and as much as I appreciate Mulder's passion in his search for the truth, I do feel that he goes too far occasionally.

As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, I understand the need for the government to keep some things secret from the public. The phrase, "In the interest of national defense," gets thrown around a lot. But, to a certain extent, it's true. Certain information such as weapons technology, strategic defense plans, and so on, are absolutely necessary to protect. An adversary could potentially use the information to inflict damage on the U.S. and its citizens.

This episode is a perfect example of this phenomenon. Both Deep Throat and Agent Scully bring up some valid points in their efforts to get Mulder to back off. And, the little speech by Paul Mossinger (Redbird) at the end puts it succinctly. "I just wanna say, everything you've seen here is equal to the protection we give it. It's you who have acted inappropriately." So, when I see Mulder pursuing something that I feel should indeed be kept secret, I have to remind myself that it's just a TV show designed for entertainment. And, Mulder is just being Mulder.

I quit eating sunflower seeds as a habit years ago and binge watching X-Files didn't help. Now I'm three bags (big ones too) in and just in the third season.

I am currently looking for apartments to rent, I know it may be a little late but I got my acceptance late and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to go. It seems like the smart move here is to live close to a Light rail station right? In person experience how bike friendly is Mainz, is it easy to get around without a car? And what about the dialect? It has been kind of hard for me to find good sources, but I would love to get in touch with the local expressions. I remember on my previous trip to München, that people seemed to appreciate when I used “Servus” instead of “Guten Morgen” or something similar. Anyway, I would love to hear about your own experiences living in the City and about any recommendations that could make my stay there more pleasant and make me a good guest to the Mainzer. I like Beyond the Sea a lot because of the role swap between M&S, but I can't think of other episodes where this happens. M&S meet the were-monster starts like this but it turns around pretty quickly. Anyone knows of any others?
