The end of the Portuguese and French empires led to long and bloody wars of independence in Africa and many atrocities. In comparison, it seems that the British empire disappeared in a much more measured and negotiated way. Why this difference between the last colonial empires and their demise?

During slavery in the French & British colonial empires, did both empires influence each-other in their treatment of slaves?
I just finished reading The History of Mary Prince: A West Indian Slave Narrative, by Mary Prince and was wondering whether her treatment in the West Indies would have been in line with how slaves were treated in the French colonies at the same time-period.
As I was researching potential differences/similarities in how the slaves were treated in both imperial colonies, I couldn't help but notice the sheer difference in size, complexity and detail between the Code Noir (1685 - for the conditions of slavery in the French colonial empire) and the Barbados Slave Code (1688 - for the conditions and better governing of slaves in the British colonial empire.) Were there instances where British colonies adhered to the use or would quote articles from the Code Noir due to its more exhaustive nature, to justify their actions- or- were both codes even applied or respected at all.

TIL that in 2005, France passed a law that required teachers to speak about the positive role of French Colonial Empire. It was repealed a year later through the intervention of the Constitutional Council.

Empire of Japan vs. Second French Colonial Empire
Both are as powerful as they were at the start of the year 1940.
Both have access to all colonies and occupied territories and both are given 5 months in advance to fully mobilize for the war.
Which empire is more powerful?

I'm currently watching The World's War: Forgotten Soldiers of the Empire. In the second episode, they discuss, briefly, how African Americans were treated as equals by the French. Why were African Americans treated so differently than their own African colonials?
