A list of puns related to "French Polynesia"
So I have been wondering if the French never colonized Tahiti or the other islands that make up French Polynesia how would the islands develop socially, politically, and economically if they were never colonized?
I'm interested in traveling into the South Pacific, and I'm looking for countries that have legal marijuana or.. ignore the law and "look the other way" if illegal.
Can you please tell me what the climate is like for smoking weed, finding it, police attitudes etc?? Do people farm on the island? All knowledge and input appreciated
PS - i know many countries in Micronesia are legal or very weed tolerant. Hoping i can find at least some similar attitudes in Polynesia.
Exactly the same issue as this post from a couple of years ago:
Two phones, both on Fi, no voice/data coverage on any network. I've done all the troubleshooting steps 15 times and spent 3 hours chatting with 2 useless support agents last night and tonight. There is currently no Fi coverage on either Tahiti or Moorea (in French Polynesia).
Both of our phones are not broken.
I'm reasonably tech savvy and can see the networks (I have emergency call access). No network will let me register.
Yes, I have unlimited plus service on both phones and international service and roaming are on for both phones. Yes, I've cycled airplane mode, power cycled, tried manually selecting every network 5 times, did a rain dance, cleared my cache, blew my nose, wiggled my ears, etc. etc. It's not the user, it's not both phones, it's the service. There is no working roaming service with our Fi SIM cards anywhere in French Polynesia.
It is especially aggravating to be treated like an idiot that doesn't know how to cycle airplane mode for 3 hours. This is clearly a back-end problem, and they just don't give a shit.
I will also send a support ticket through the Reddit request system; thanks for reading.
Has anyone here had success expatriating to French Polynesia as an EU (but not French) citizen (since French citizens can work there but other EU citizens cannot)? I've heard that virtual work is not enforced or restricted but am having a hard time confirming. Has anyone moved there and if so could you share what your experience was like, where you moved, and any pitfalls and recommendations for making the move? Thanks much in advance.
Hi hi, welcome to my 2022 era of being stuck in French Polynesia! I'd introduce a boring ad first, but this is actually boring tv. So instead, here are the 8 songs for the edition!

I have been traveling through French Polynesia for almost 3 weeks now, and suddenly my service was cut off. I contacted support and they walked me through ways to troubleshoot but so far nothing has worked. When I try to connect to networks it shows all options as being Forbidden. I even tried to connect on my backup phone which is a Pixel 5 but have had the same issue.
Has anyone had this issue before or could offer any insight on what I might be able to do. I am using a local SIM atm but would very much like my google number back. Cheers.
I'm constantly itching for "travel diary" content, so I wanted to share a video posted by CNBC about a couple and their expenses associated with a recent trip to French Polynesia. I think I was primed by a post from earlier this week on this sub that posed the question, "have people become more extra?" - because I watched this video two days ago and it's still on mind.
If you watch the video, I'm curious to hear what others think! I've left some prompts below, if anyone wants to share thoughts:
My initial thoughts:
I'd like to visit French Polynesia some day and the footage of the trip looks really cool, but I have sticker shock from the price tag ๐ณ I'm trying to remember though that it's definitely possible to get this trip a lot cheaper, leveraging strategies like credit card points or other travel hacks. I really wish the video shared more about their financial situation and how often she travels to put more of this into context.
Mostly, the video has me reflecting on how "worth it" are various life experiences, like luxury travel. I think part of having a healthy relationship with money is freedom to spend money when it will bring you lasting joy that's balanced with sensible, day-to-day financial habits.
My closing thoughts (edit):
Seems several of us use luxury travel to celebrate milestone moments like graduation, marriage, paying off debt, and in one person's case death. This framing really resonates with me, because creating memories, especially with loved ones, is priceless. So while the woman in the video traveled for her bf's birthday (which might not seem like a major milestone), I can now see that for them it was probably a lot about creating memories and experiencing something new. Originally, I watched the video and couldn't get past how what for me is more than a year of rent depleted in less than two weeks could be worthwhile, but now it makes more sense! On that note, thank you to all for the travel inspiration โจ I have so many ideas now for my travel list!
I'm just curious because I heard a conversation from an American that its more worth visiting and living for retirement than in Hawaii.
Edit update 2: here in Bora Bora the weather is pretty awful. The rain has basically been non stop. Itโs also gotten a lot colder. Something I didnโt realize and would have DEFINITELY canceled if Iโd known is that when the rain is this bad, the internet goes down. This is because the internet is all line of sight from Tahiti to the rest of the islands. So you have no WiFi and youโre rained in. Tbh this is causing us a ton of anxiety as we are executives at our companies and donโt have the option to ever lose service. The 3g is spotty at best and we can only get through texts and some emails. We have a satellite phone with us in an extreme emergency.
The weather doesnโt look like itโs set to improve until tomorrow am and then only for a few hours if weโre lucky. Then maybe Monday night itโll hopefully get better.
My biggest frustration is that I donโt think the st Regis has been honest with us. There was clearly a big weather system set to make this weekend 72 hours of non stop rain. When I asked the concierge what they were seeing with the weather and whether we should postpone, he could have been more forthright. Instead they always say shit like โoh the weather is unpredictable!โ Rightโฆ until itโs totally predictable and forecasted.
My advice for anyone considering coming here is: If the little weather app on your phone shows straight rain everyday, it will dump rain everyday. And if you can cancel or postpone, then do so. And donโt come here oct - April.
Donโt get gaslit into thinking itโll be perfectly fine when thereโs clearly a weather system on the radar. Yes sometimes it says rain and itโs only for a few minutes. But Hawaii this is not. This is major rain.
As of now I am regretting coming here, but I will continue to update!
Edit update: well we decided to go for it! We called our hotel and rescheduled all of our activities to next week so we didnโt have anything booked friday - Sunday. Here in Tahiti itโs pretty gloomy with the rain coming and going but no major storm yet (no sunshine at all). Weโre flying to Bora Bora later today where itโs expected to be bad tonight, ok Saturday am, and bad Sunday. Hopefully by Monday we see some sun! Since we are coming into this with a positive attitude and ok with rain, Iโm not stressed about it.
But donโt be naive if youโre coming here oct-April. Thereโs a tendency for people here to dismiss weather concerns and say โit changes quickly. Itโs a tropical place.โ But some weather is just predicta
... keep reading on reddit โกI plan on diving on both Bora Bora and Moorea (life long dreams of mine) and I was wondering if I should also do snorkeling trips while there? It snorkeling still really worth it if you already dove? Do they take you to different site and see maybe more coral?
I plan on doing a Manta ray dive for sure and I'm open to what ever else the dive shop suggests to do (sounds like shark dive on the outside of the lagoon)
Hi everyone! Iโm looking for some advice as to which islands I should visit during my 7 days in FP (flying into PPT) the first week of November. I figure I will only have time for 2 islands, I love to get off the beaten path, hike, find beautiful beaches, etc. Iโm hoping to stay semi budget friendly, and just overall looking for great adventures! I appreciate any and all suggestions and advice :)
