About my weird dream about Foyles War

Hey stoics and interested of stoicism.

This ia a bit of a shitpost I think, but bear with me.

A few months ago I had a dream where someone showed me 3 videobands of what he/she said was of a very stoic tv-serie called Foyles War.

I have thougt about the dream regulary because I found it odd.

I am influenced by Stoicism in my life, hence I had the dreamm

Was my dream right, does Foyles War have s stoic way of it?

I have seen very little Foyles War, but it is my moms favorite tv-serie.

This is mostly meant as a fun post.

[IIL] Endeavour and Foyle’s War, British period murder mysteries [WWIL]

I love Endeavour about the young Inspector Morse. I have seen the original Morse and the Lewis series. I also really liked Foyle’s War.

I am looking for cozy and cerebral murder mysteries preferably British and period pieces (though those aren’t necessary). I don’t want anything too grisly, but with quite intelligent and intriguing plots.

Are there any recommendations for shows akin to those? I feel like Masterpiece Mystery can sometimes be quite hit or miss.

Trying to identify instrument playing theme in post-war episodes of 'Foyle's War'

I'm trying to identify the instrument which plays the theme in 'Foyle's War', BUT ONLY for the post-war episodes. I think it might be a glass harmonica, but I'm not sure. Any guesses?
I know that during the wartime episodes, the theme was played by an English horn, but this is definitely not that. It's possible it might be a synthesizer or something like that.

I keep thinking that Juliet Higgins grandmother was Samantha Stewart from "Foyles War".

Samatha is played by Honeysuckle Weeks who is Perdita Weeks sister.

For those that have never watched "Foyles War" Samatha Stewart started as the driver for the lead character, Andew Foyle, who was working for MI5 and over the series, she begins to develop her own investigative skills and finally Foyle is happy to leave her as lead in an interrogation and MI5 is OK with her going undercover for them.

I keep thinking that Samantha is Juliets grandmother.

Foyle's War (2002-2015) - A somewhat brief review

A brief overview: A TV series about a policeman (Detective Superintendent) in England during WW2.

This has been a wonderful series in many ways, especially if you are someone who likes period pieces that slides in many subtle historical issues. Examples would be, among many, gas/food rationing, mental issues of soldiers and civilians during the war, and so on. It captured well, IMHO, many of the little aspects of the time which impacted a small town in England.

It isn't for everyone. It is not filled with action and adventure and doesn't follow the standard formula you might find here in the US when it comes to crime dramas.

Episodes are about an hour and half to almost 2 hours. Some seasons have only 2-3 episodes, several have 4. There are some common things which irritate me (like main characters being blamed for something they didn't do being a part of the episode) but those, to me, are minimal and overshadowed by the bigger stories in each episode.

Some people who are in one season do show up in another (continuity) but other things/people just seem to vanish and would have liked to have seen them show up later.

Overall, and to keep it brief: A really well written period series that puts in details that make it overall a supreme effort. While not perfect it certainly will entertain those looking for something different than your typical US police drama. I Wish it could have had longer seasons with more connections and that they hadn't used tired old tropes (if you will) where main characters were falsely accused of things (a pet peeve of mine).

Despite the few things I didn't like? I loved it. It sucks you into a whole period of time and how events at that time impacted people across the board (from doctors to average person). If you love police dramas, period pieces, and good detective work (not to mention human dramas in general) - check it out.

Foyle's War Sweaters

I'm just finishing up watching the last newest episodes of Foyle's War. Watch it if you haven't already!! And I am loving all the fabulous knitwear in the series. Very cool retro 1940's sweaters and some great crocheted things as well.

Does anyone know if there is a source for patterns for these sweaters. They are so very pretty.

I keep stopping the program and going back to look at the sweaters.....it is making my husband crazy :-)

A murder mystery drama using the character of Christopher Foyle from the Foyle's War TV series

Warning this may be a bit of a spoiler for the TV series Foyle's War:

During the course of the series one of the murderers escaped prosecution because of his political contacts. He fled to the U.S. during the war. At the end of season six, the war now being over, and Foyle free from his position with the police - he took a trip to the U.S. At the beginning of season seven Foyle had just returned to Britain and was recruited into MI5. One of the inducements they used to recruit him was they threatened to return him the U.S. if he did not join them. It seems that while in the U.S. Foyle did something the Americans did not like, and they wanted him back to answer for it.

It seems clear that the purpose of his trip and his actions in the U.S. involved going after 'the one who got away'.

I would love to see a feature film of Foyle operating in the U.S. on the trail of the well connected murderer that escaped him during the war.
