Looking for apps to aid in identification of flora and fauna.

And this seemed the best place: I want to become more "aware" of the world around me, to be able to identify birds and plants by species. Unfortunately it's an absolute mire of bad and single-use apps; I'm looking for recommendations on apps that could help here. I am not expecting nor particularly desire to take a picture and have AI tell me what it is, but rather to tell the app my location and what a bird looks like.

If nothing else, at least your favorite resource for learning such things.

Flora and fauna and the creation of Mundus

Hi everyone! Bit of an inexperienced newbie here. I've been reading up on the creation myths of the Elder Scrolls world (fascinating stuff and I love all of the metaphysics!). But I have a question that I can't get out of my mind. Hopefully I can articulate it well!

The races all have their origins as descendants of the Ehlnofey (or the Hist in Argonians' case), but what about non-sentient plants and animals? Are they also thought to be descendants of the et'Ada stranded on Mundus, or are they considered more a collective natural phenomenon inherent to Mundus?

Where will the migratory processes of fauna and flora take place in the future, judging by future changes on Earth?

I think that perhaps small migrations will occur from Asia to North America and vice versa, since in the future Beringia will reappear due to tectonic processes. (Maybe armadillos, Pronghorn, possums and skunks will migrate to Asia). Also, migrations of the North African fauna to Europe, due to the connection with Europe via Gibraltar, and emerging from this drainage of the Mediterranean Sea (Macaques, Jerboa, Damans, Hyenas, Camels, Mongooses, Gazelles, Elephat Shrews and Fenecc foxes).

In the distant future, Australia and Afro-Eurasia will also collide, and because of this, the entire endemic fauna of Australia may die out due to the inability to compete with placental mammals and other more developed animals.

Video review here

Buy the book here. If you live outside of Malaysia, you'll have to email the publisher with how many you want and where to send them. Info at the link.

Creatures of Near Kingdoms explores 75 creatures and plants that could almost exist. Probably closer to literature than monster manual, it nevertheless has lots of great creature ideas to steal, and the writing and art is so good you can just read it for pleasure.

What chemical components do the flora and fauna of you world available/used for foodstuffs have or lack, and how does that affect the food and cultures of your world?

Proteins are the most likely suspects in my mind, as much of our cookery is reliant on gluten and egg proteins for form (such that early European settlers of North America had some difficulty adapting to corn). Pectin is also a structurally important feature for fruit products. For space-faring civilizations, alien life is very unlikely to contain proteins and amino acids they can digest and need to survive.

Alcohol culture is another big one. Barley is fairly unique in how much alpha- and beta-amylase is has and how easily it can be used. Corn has to sprout much farther to become sufficiently enzymatic, such that it ties itself together in a moldy mat before you can dry it, and wheat isn't as powerful (although modern production methods have boosted the activation rate quite nicely.

Every solar system in the known universe suddenly has an exact earth analog planet in a stable "goldilocks zone" orbit complete with local flora and fauna. No new intelligent/sentient life is on any of them. Just animals. How long before we expand to other stars?

As a stepping stone in our space travel 3 more "Earths" are created on our solar system at compass points along Earth's orbital path. Corrections are made to ensure the rest of our solar system's orbits remain balanced and stable. So the new ones don't "crash the system".
