A list of puns related to "Fire HDX"
I've found this sub via Google while trying to do everything I can to get what I want. My Kindle is old and is a hand me down from my mom. I only really use it to watch YouTube, however, YouTube ads are a pain. So I went on a search for adblocker extentions or browsers that will work for my device. Got nothing. I found tutorials and suggestions from this sub and tried to follow them, only for it to not work. So I was hoping this sub could help me! So, oh almighty kindle fire subreddit, is there an adblocker browser/extension for silk that I can use to watch my YouTube in adless bliss?
Hello, Iβm trying to repair my Kindle Fire HDX 7β 3rd Gen and found a great teardown guide by iFixit but it doesnβt show how the digitizer and LCD screen is connected. I was wondering if the LCD screen goes over or under the digitizer? Hereβs the breakdown guide if anyone is curious. I am amazed this tablet still is receiving updates!
I just installed lineage os and I love it! So sad my 4th gen hdx been feeling slow and lags on youtube and just in general. It running os 5 from amazon.
My 3rd gen hdx felt faster and was runner weaker specs and running os 4.4 but now running android 7.1.2
I have an old fire HDX 7β 3rd generation on fire os 4.5.5.3
I really like the tablet, the screen is really nice and the speakers are loud, it makes a good comic book reader and itβs good for watching things on when washing up or cooking.
My issue is that thereβs apps Iβd like to install (better comic book readers, iplayer, Disney +) that arenβt supported on this OS and never had a version I could side load.
Is it possible for me to remove fire os and just install a newer version of Android so I can install what I want on the tablet?
The microphone symbol is on the keyboard, but when I try to use it, I get a message that it isn't available at this time. I have used it a few years ago - what am I doing wrong?
Title as above There is one game I wanna play on this screen that isn't on Amazon's store and it won't let me install it through an apk. How would I go about installing Google play, to do this? Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a good upgrade to replace my old fire HDX?
Iβve had the fire 6 years and still really enjoy using it, itβs the perfect size for putting next to the sink when washing up, the speakers are stereo and really loud and the screen is really good.
The only reason Iβm looking to upgrade is because the os version canβt be upgraded and a lot of the streaming apps I use (iplayer, disney+ etc) donβt work on lower versions, and in the case of Disney+ thereβs not an old version I can side load for my OS.
Things Iβm looking for:
Same or bigger screen 7 inch
Stereo speakers
HD display
Fast, Iβve not had issues with the fire but when Iβve used the kids fire tablets I can see the difference in speed.
Ability to install prime video, Netflix etc
Cheap-ish I think I got the HDX in a sale for around Β£60, I only use it to watch stuff when washing up so I canβt justify spending hundreds on an iPad.
Thanks for any help!
Does anyone have any info on what changes were made?
Just installed this last night. I thought amazon abandoned it but apparently not
I have this old kindle device which I only use to watch Netflix or prime in the kitchen when washing up, Iβm happy with it so for me itβs not worth buying a new model.
However it would be good if I could install plex on it, I use to be able to see it in the store but because the minimum version is now higher than mine it doesnβt get returned in the store anymore.
Is there anyway I can install plex? I know I can side load a newer version of the app but installing it fails as it checks which version of android is being run. Is there a way to upgrade the OS to a newer version?
I know plex works through a browser too but on my kindle this doesnβt work to well as the web version is limited by the codecs supported
I've been in love with my 3rd gen kindle fire hdx 8.9" since I got it back in 2014. So much so, that I decided to upgrade to the 4th gen and give my 3rd gen to my SO. However, the day that my 4th gen showed up, my 3rd gen became bricked. I had been using it in the morning, noticed it was sluggish, so I held the power button and powered it off. I plugged it back in to turn it on and went about my morning. When I came back, it wouldn't power on. I've tried holding the power button for about a minute, and tried various combinations of the power button and volume buttons for extended durations to no avail. I called amazon and they said that it's out of warranty and couldn't do anything about it except a discount.
I've opened it up and took a multimeter to the battery and see that it's at 3.8V, so I'm assuming my problem isn't the battery. It isn't being noticed when I hook it up to a computer, and even after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, it still won't power up. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot the issue? I don't think it's the power port seeing as I've tried two OEM amazon chargers and USB cables which both worked on my new 4th gen.
I'm thinking it might be the motherboard, but I'm not sure. I might try disconnecting the motherboard entirely and then plugging everything back in just in case. But any help would be appreciated. All of the advice on the xda forums is pointing me towards a soft brick, but I think this may be a hard brick since the power commands seem to be non-responsive... Hoping maybe a motherboard swap might help? I really want the bricked device back because I know that there's no issues with the battery or screen since I've had it since day 1.
I love my Kindle Fire HDX but it's having problems (sound no longer works). I want to buy something similar but am not sure which current model to choose. Please advise, thanks!
Iβve had this device since it came out and still use it everyday to watch tv shows on prime video, itβs the perfect size and the speakers are really good so itβs a nice way to watch things whilst washing up or cooking.
Thereβs certain apps I canβt install on it like Disney plus for example, and Iβd like access to the google play store, is it possible to upgrade to a newer OS version that would let me do this and also let me continue to access prime video and other amazon services?
I've Googled this quite a bit, but can't find a solution and have already reset the tablet.
Recently dug this guy out so that my kids could watch Youtube videos, but after sideloading Youtube and Newpipe, both start videos, but pause the video right away or the videos seemingly start skipping without audio. In the Silk browser the videos play fine.
Is there a setting I have enabled by mistake? I did reset the tablet, so I thought this would remedy that.
Hello,
My Kindle Fire recently started having a weird issue with the wifi/internet. I can't remember when it started happening, but it's definitely recent.
It will connect to internet just fine and be usable, but later (between 1-7+ days) it will say it can't connect to the internet when I try to open the app store or browser, or anything that has to go online.
I do leave it on, I have an origami case that has the little magnet in the cover to tell the Kindle to sleep or black out the screen when it's closed.
I don't leave it plugged into the charger. I typically charge it when I think I'm gonna use it, then unplug it when it's at 100%.
Sometimes the battery does die completely between uses. Sometimes it gets to ~10-20% before I charge it again.
I did have a span of a year or so where I didn't use it at all, and the battery was drained the whole time. But this issue started within the last couple of months, after I had started using it again for a couple months first.
I used to play games on it, but not very often. I don't have a lot installed on there, storage is at 7.64 GB used, 46.70 GB free.
It's main use is books now.
Software version is OS 4.5.5.3. This seems to be the latest for 3rd Gen.
It's really more annoying than anything else, that I have to restart my Kindle any time I want to access the internet. I guess it's okay if I can't fix this issue, obviously it's an old tablet. I MIGHT be willing to get a new one if the price is around 100$.
I usually get books on my computer, then connect Kindle to computer and transfer the MOBI files, I don't think any part of this requires the internet on the Kindle. I also take pretty good care of it. It still has the first screen protector I put on there, it's rarely been dropped, not rooted, nothing weird installed onto it and otherwise works just fine.
Could it be the hardware itself that is just breaking? (Wifi card or something?)
I'm looking for an affordable tablet to watch shows while on the go. The new HD 10 looks appealing for the price and the expandable memory but I recently learned of the HDX line. The 4th generation version has a 2560 x 1600 resolution, strong speakers, and can be found around $70. However, I'm not sure how well the 2014 tablet would hold up today. I'm also seeing mixed results for the HDX regarding USB OTG as a way to expand storage.
I do have some background with rooting Android so putting Lineage OS on either is appealing.
Which device would you go with or is there a better non-amazon option?
I followed a guide and installed the necessary apk files but I get a βparse error.β
I am trying to unlock the bootloader and get to fastboot but the drivers in windows says no device connected when it works fine in normal mode on the tablet.
I cannot seem to get fastboot to say ok for it to work.
So, basically, Iβve done everything I can to reset or fix it. Having charged it, powered off, etc., and nothing seems to work. Does anyone have anything that could help me?
Hi all,
I recently came into possession of a kindle fire HDX apollo 8.9 inch and was wondering what the process for rooting the device to run android would look like. I've found previous guides but they all seem pretty dated to at least 3-4 years ago. Currently I am running Fire OS 4.5.5.3 on the device. Any help with running android on this device will be appreciated!
I have been unable to read my comics from my unlimited subscription from my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 for the past few months. the page keeps loading to a blank screen. Has anyone else ran into this and if so do you have any fixes? Thanks for the help.
The 8.9 HDX model was probably my favorite tablet that I've ever owned. It was the perfect size, extremely comfortable to hold, the screen and resolution were above average, and IMO the interface was much easier to navigate on than the current incarnation of Fire OS which looks cluttered by comparison.
I wish Amazon would release an updated HDX model with modern day specs and USB-C. If I could still put the Play Store on it then I'd be highly likely to buy one over an iPad.
Hey everyone. I was wondering how can I install the Google play store on my kindle. Do I need to root the device or can it without root. My Kindle runs on Fire OS 4.5.5.3. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Hello, I have a kindle fire hdx that I broke the screen and now need to get all my information from it into my computer. Before (Which I should gotten fixed , was that the screen was loose, so anytime I had the tablet, the screen would turn into that static like TV and it would be all jumbled. I "fixed' it by bending the screen back into place and it would be normal again. Bend it back too far where my touchscreen won't move or slide. The only thing that was responsive was on the upper right corner where I could move it. I didn't mess with it until I looked online about connecting a Bluetooth mouse and otg cable for the mouse. I tested USB on my tablet, no cursor was showing so I switched it with my other tablet and the cursor showed up. Is there anyway to get data of my tablet. I also have a security pin number for the kindle fire before I'm in the silk browser homepage.
I commute by train 1 hour each way 5x week. Music is getting boring, nobody wants to talk, and it is getting pretty damn dull. My original thought was to get an e-reader, so I looked up kindle, and wanting the best of the line, I pulled the trigger on a 64GB 8.9" HDX model for $479.00. It arrives Friday.
Now, I'm thinking that I should return it and get an iPad Air 2 64gb Wifi only. It sells for only $88 more, and I think it will do a lot more than the Kindle Fire.
The reason I bought Kindle Fire in the first place is that I have a Prime account, and have access to free music, movies and books.
Main Questions:
Those of you with an iPad and a Prime account, are you sacrificing anything by NOT having a kindle/fire device?
How is the e-reader on your iPad?
Should I go full sized, or mini iPad, if I change?
Thank you everyone, I'm really puzzled here.
Edit: I want to thank everyone here for all the unbiased and fair input. I started out this morning thinking that I wasn't sure if I should return the Kindle Fire or not, and if an iPad Air2 would be better. I quickly learned that it would be much better to go iPad, but maybe think about the portability of the iPad mini, since the main use would be for reading/entertainment on my commute. Now I know that I'm going with an iPad, but will have to go to a real store to compare the two. If I go with the Mini, I will get the Mini2 because I learned today that the only difference between the 2 and the 3 is the fingerprint reader/lock. meh...
This has been a wonderful experience today. Everyone has been very helpful, no hate, no fanboys, all good solid information. Thank you all, very much.
and they say reddit is dead....
It's amazing
There is no audio coming out of the speakers or headphones ever since my tab updated yesterday. When I turn the volume all the way up I can hear the sound letting me know that it's turned up all the way but no audio from music or videos. Anyone know what's going on or a fix thanks.
