Final Fantasy VIII Puns

I know I’m not the only one of course. But I’ve personally noticed this game specifically seems to catch a lot of hell from FF fans. A lot of people I’ve noticed even go as far to say it’s their least favorite in the series.

I’m finally getting around to a full playthrough of the remastered version and it’s the first time I’ve played this game in years (possibly since HS.) I’ve always felt like I had a bias for it since it was technically my first Final Fantasy. Despite playing it throughout the majority of my younger life though, my memories have been vague in adulthood up until this point of playing now. At the very least I remembered enjoying it as a child/teen, and whenever I’ve seen negative feedback as an adult I always wondered if I had on nostalgia goggles or not.

Playing it now I still find that I love it. I love the characters, I REALLY love the music in this game. The story isn’t awful. The junction system isn’t nearly as annoying as I see people complain about it (though I do understand why people might dislike it.) And the GF animations imo are amazing, especially for it’s time. Not saying it’s a perfect game by any means, or even the best in the series. But I do feel like it gets more hate than it deserves.

I think it might end up being one of my favorite. The system was a little complicated at first but it ended up being great once I grew to understand it. I really enjoyed the story. All around it was fun.

And of coarse, Triple Triad is da best.

One of Final Fantasy VIII's more contentious elements is how the story feels a little muddled at times and certain parts are either not explained very well or just not explained at all.

With how VII Remake expanded a lot of the Midgar storyline, it ended up giving more context to certain elements and (in my eyes) made the story flow a bit better like actually giving Jessie a whole storyline and making her eventual death more impactful.

So yeah, if Final Fantasy VIII was remade, what would be your thoughts on where it could flesh out certain plot points?

I decided to do an FFVIII Fun Fact thing.

I am going to find a series of random facts about the game and share them on here for new players and older players alike.

They will range from bits of lore to game tips.

1. Forest Owls Origin

Watts and Zones fathers founded the forest owls. They were leading a resistance around President Delings rise to power. After a public execution infront of the town of Timber, President deling spotted young Zone and Watts, he pulled out a pistol to to further shoot their already dead fathers.

You can find this information yourself in game just before the Timber mission. After you go through the mission briefing you are able to run to the room with the save spot. Talk to the guy sitting down with the red shirt.

2. Shell/Protect

You can get protect from Spider bot at the end of the Dollet mission, you could have your party draw up to 100 protects each party member, I recommend some card grinding before you get to Dollet. Doing this without stressing requires that you know how to avoid most of the fights as apparently in this remastered version you cannot kill spider bot(ask about it in the comments)

Shell is a spell that not many monsters have in disc one, however with a sufficiently junctioned HP stat you can Draw Shell from Grenaldo, the boss in the training center after the big SeeD dance. Easiest way to do it is, Have Quistis with a high magic stat(over 50) and a high HP stat (2.3k or higher would work) use a water crystal on her before the fight, so she learns aqua breath, use that to take out the three little rolly bois then just endlessly draw from Grenaldo(the big dragonfly guy...)

Whats the point?

Protect and Shell both are good for Vit stat and Spr stat, as well as the elemental defenses. Shell gives you 20% resistance to all elements, protect gives you 20% resistance to Fire Ice Thunder. Shell and Protect will also help you greatly in boss fights like Diablos, Shell protects against Gravija and Protect helps against his death claw. Provided you have at least a Vit or Spr stat on each party member. When added with Elem-DefX2; normally low mag spells(Fire)only bring you up +50% resistance mid mag spells(Fira) bring you up +80% high mag spells(Firaga) are 100%

3.Shumi Tribe and the Training Center.
