A list of puns related to "Export Development Canada"
I have currently been an AS-02 for a bit under 3 years (I am permanent), I was going to ask my manager to take my one year leave without pay.
EDC is a crown corp, anyone know if you can work while taking a LWOP??
Also does anyone know if EDC offers something similar (LWOP)
If you wonder why I was under the radar the last few days... I was in Ottawa attending the above captioned Summit that TheCannalysts arranged.
As some of you know, I used to run EDCโs Automotive Team. My company has been dealing with EDC since I left EDC. They are a good partner.
The last time I brought a group of exporters to EDC it was under very different circumstances. It was the Auto Crisis of 2008-09. I brought a group of tool, die and Moldmakers to Ottawa to ensure that bailout funds made their way through the supply chain to pay for tooling that was completed and in progress.
I did a similar thing for US toolers and repeatedly met with President Obamaโs Auto Task Force. (They were smart dudes. Figured out a lot of issues quickly and under duress. Canada just went along with whatever the USA did.).
The EDC Executive that steered my Automotive mission is now EDCโs CEO. And he graciously arranged EDCโs resources to attend and learn about the industry. (Alas, he was on annual leave so we didnโt get to see him.)
This trip was considerably different. This was all about education and commencing commercial relationships.
I brought:
Tilray - Cameron Bishop VP Governmental Affairs
Aphria - Jakob Ripshtein COO and Christelle Gedeon Chief Legal
Aurora - Dieter MacPherson SVP Operations (Notice the โSโ folks. D rocks.)
Cronos - Billy Hilson CFO
Auxly - Travis Wong VP Finance
And to educate EDC on how the industry got to where it is.... We brought:
Trina Fraser of Brazeau Sellers
CCI - Brennan Kerr and Michael Elkin
BMO - Cameron Kowzlowski National Ag lead
The purpose was to have EDC drink from the fire hose and understand the international reach that these Canadian exporters have, and the opportunities EDC services can support.
I got the idea at Lift Toronto when I heard Cameron Bishop mention that he was looking forward to Canadaโs first Cannabis Trade Mission. (I have been in numerous trade missions during my time at EDC).
We led off with a Trina, CCI, and BMO. Then each company provided a brief overview of their Cdn footprint (every Province was represented... which was part of my planning) and then their global operations. There were lots of questions (especially by EDC about USA) and very spirited discussions.
The two biggest areas for EDC support are supporting Canadian Direct Investment Abroad (CDIA) and Political Risk Insurance (PRI). The former would have EDC lending directly to these companies on a commercial basis
