A list of puns related to "Eric Carle"
I did not expect such eating disorders to be written out so plainly. Even the gorging of the very hungry caterpillar by literally eating everything in sight on Saturday after only eating fruit for five days.
βOn Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake and one slice of watermelon.β
I'm thoroughly enjoying the book because of how unexpected each page is.
Okay. So idk if this belongs here but I have to know if this this something my mind created or it was/is a thing. I remember being read Eric Carle books as a small child by my teacher(s) and I loved them because of the art. But what I also remember was some of the books had special features at the end : The very hungry caterpillar: the butterfly had pop up wings The Very Quiet cricket: A cricket sound The Lonely Firefly: The fireflies lit up in the end.
Were/are there Eric Carle books like this? Or is my mind just making up those extra features??
u/bluemola thank you for the Eric Carle postcard :). His art has a special place in my heart. I hope you have a great holiday season as well β€οΈ.
Hi all-
Eric Carle sadly passed away exactly three months ago at age 91. Since The very hungry caterpillar was one of my favourite books as a child, I figured I'd get some postcards with his designs and offer them on here. Most of the designs are illustrations of animals drawn by him, but there are also book covers and a handful of other motifs (see sample of the cards I have on offer).
If you'd like one, then:
I'll close this offer whenever interest subsides, or else when I run out of energy.

I made this chart to show off my analysis. While I think the chart and its implications are valid and clear to the casual observer, I will still give a brief explanation of my method.
First, I picked the only authors anyone cares about, which just so happened to be the only authors I care about (don't worry if you haven't heard of some of them, they're all hidden gems). For each author, I read one of their books. By "read" I of course mean listened to. By "listened to" I of course mean I had no contact with the book or its contents and based my analysis solely off of author reputation and memes.
As the columns are pretty straightforward and standardized, lets go right into the results. We see that Carle is the only author to score above 0 on the caterpillar index and only one to rate "timeless" on year. While this is a strong indicator of superiority, it is worrisome that King and Orwell outranked him on Cocaine? and Hunger, respectively.
However, none of this matters. The only column I considered was Prose or picture based. By prose I of course mean words, period. Carle is the only one who uses the superior picture-based book method and thus is clearly the objective winner. King, Brando, and Orwell may, respectfully, get rekt.
First of all, this is not meant to be a put-down post for those other popular series, by any means.
I've read (and loved) ASOIAF, Wheel of Time, Malazan, Cosmere, First Law, Realm of the Elderlings, etc.
I'm now reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar for the first time (as it was just released on audiobook), and I am floored by it. Plotting, characterization, world-building, beautiful writing - it has it all in spades, while also being wholly original. In many ways it feels like Malazan, but is more approachable in writing style.
I know Eric Carle has started to get more recognition in the last few years (which is probably why the Very Hungry Caterpillar is getting re-published and put out on audio), but I implore you to not look past this gem of a series when reading him.
This is a series that should have devoted sub-reddits, wiki's, and TOR re-reads. It's that good.
I'm just glad I found it now, and I hope this post will help others find it too.
