A list of puns related to "Epic Systems"
I want to convert my current 20th+ level 5e campaign in to another system, specifically one that supports the over-the-top ultra-powered style of gaming better than D&D. My main gripes is how slow the combat has become, how broken this got, and how much work as a DM I have just to challenge the PCs.
No God-simulator-games, no Domain Management. The game should support mortal-ish adventurers with very high power levels.
Ideally, D&D5e 20th level PCs (plus epic boons) should be the equivalent to 1st level PCs in the recommended system, and go on becoming more powerful and mechanically interesting from there. All PCs and the setting are deeply rooted in D&D tropes and options, so the new system should ideally allow for easily reskinning stuff to allow for things like Monks, Wizards and Paladins to be recognizable.
The game should handle things like slaying hordes of demons, destroying a parliament of arch-liches after uncovering their millennia-old conspiracies, convincing Tiamat she can be a good gal and redeeming her, actually reclaiming and purifying layers of the Abyss, stealing the hoard of the Dwarven Kings, defeating elite armies with only a sword, conjure plane-shaking spells...
So, what games would you suggest?
Hello,
I have a final interview with Epic Systems coming up soon. Is it true that the final interview is mostly a formality, and they'll just try to sell themselves to me? I assume I did well on the coding test, and I have internship experience/a high GPA. I don't particularly struggle in behavioral interviews so I'm not really worried about it.
I don't love the idea of moving to Madison, WI but the compensation is insane & it seems like a good way to start my career. Speaking of the compensation, I've seen $110k + $10k relocation; is there any stock including in that at all? Some of the offers on levels.fyi have stock, others don't. Finally, in case I hate it and want to leave, are there any former employees that know if you have to stay a certain amount of time to keep the stock/relocation bonus?
Thanks!
EDIT: Also does anyone know the details of their 401k match? I'd juice that thing like an orange.
Omicron is blazing through the United States, with boosters doing little to nothing to stop breakthrough infections.
Many employees still have children who are not eligible for the vaccine, and are forced to take PTO when their children are sick, despite being fully capable of working remotely.
There is one exception to this rule, and it is when an employee is suspicious they have been infected. Then, they can work from home. However, they must still be within 45 minutes of Madison. This policy has allegedly led to the suicide of an employee earlier this year due to isolation.
The CEO is an 80 year old billionare grossly out of touch with reality. When will we hold them accountable?
EDIT: For additional context, EMR stands for Electronic Medical Records, they are a medical/hospital software company and ~80% of patient data in the United States flows through their software.
FYI this is not going to be a corporate shilling post, just a genuine thank you.
I have been playing Rocket League since it was first given out to PS+ members on the PS4 back in 2015, and since then I've had the personal pleasure of watching my favourite game turn into what it is today.
I was 16 years old, working part-time and had nothing else to do with my spare time but play Rocket League, I bought every DLC that was released day 1 just to show some appreciation for the game I received for free. After about a year, Psyonix released crates and keys, and the popularity of the game just seemed to soar. Players in every casual game were asking the lobby to trade and I quickly became addicted to crates. It was that year that I unknowingly became a teenager with a gambling addiction.
I would spend $50-100 of my paycheck a week on keys, I would then trade for crates, open crates, trade the good items away for more keys when the cooldown expired, get nothing from my other crates, and be left with absolutely nothing to show for the money I spent. And I did this EVERY week without seeing an issue.
The day I found out Epic now held the reins on RL, and were removing the crates, I was pissed off. I thought that most people would stop playing, the trading scene would die, and there wouldn't be a reason to play.
A few years have passed since then and I am still playing the game, I am still loving the game, and I still have money in my pocket at the end of the week. So yeah, thank you Epic, for saving me and possibly thousands of other players from an unneeded and unwanted gambling addiction. I hope paid-for random drops never return to Rocket League.
TLDR: Removing crates and keys more than likely saved hundreds if not thousands of young people from developing gambling addictions.
The loot rarity system is an MMO thing and usually translates into grind, achievements, now why the hell we do we have that in Halo Infinite after the disaster of Halo 5? At least 5 had a little bit of sense with the gambling.
The rarity quality doesn't even make sense, you get an Epic at level 10 like ? And then rares, these are given stuff that you will unlock sometime through linear progression, not grinding. Not asking for a grind, but why??
Just remove these colors? There's no gear drop at the end of matches, or even behind achievements/modes. What's the point? If a dev can answer I'm sure he'll say "oh every other game has this nonsense we had to bring this from H5 so the modern audience can relate."
This crusade to turn Halo into a mobile game monetization system with all the Battle-Royale skins-system is straight up bad.
Many games on EGS use the old achievement system which works in-game but not in the launcher. Epic then decides to release a new achievement system that works both in game and in the launcher but very few games support the new achievement system. Even new games being released do not use the new achievement system.
What they should have done is fix the old achievement system instead of coming up with a whole new system that forces dev to update their games to make use of this system. None of the games that use the old achievement system have been updated to use the new one because it's too much work for the devs to update their games.
It is very high paying in relation to the cost of living: $110K base + $6K relocation (after 40% is taxed) + $10K in private stocks per year for 5 years. As a new grad in the midwest, the financials look compelling. They make sure you are penalized for leaving early, though; you have to pay back at least part of the bonus if you leave within 2 years, the employer 401K match doesn't kick in immediately, and there's a similar deal with the stocks.
What are you guys thoughts on Epic? I know they have somewhat of a bad reputation for WLB & culture, but how is it in terms of learning and experience? Will recruiters look favorably on the experience in the future, especially at FAANG? Is it a solid first job?
Thanks

Achievements are industry standard if I've understood correctly. That's why you get the same core set of achievements on PS, XBox and Steam for games. I could be wrong sure but that's my understanding.
