Hey guys! I have this lore theory about Noxus and Iona. With Noxus representing the Mongol Empire. And Iona representing Japan. Here are my supporting evidence;
Quick history: The Mongols invaded Japan (twice in 1274 and 1281) and failed because of bad weather at sea.
The Mongol empire was expanding during the 13th century and was very ruthless but they did have a rule of law and allowed freedom of religion. The Mongols failed, while they did capture a few islands off the Japanese coast for a bit until the Japanese cleaned up.

Right from the start, there were parallels to real-life history (some easier to spot out than others).
"Noxus was a massive, massive, expansionist, aggressive empire." Which is exactly what the Mongols did
"So Noxus doesn't always conquer their territories violently. In many cases some of these cities tend to want to bend the knee to Noxus. Because they get great benefits in trade and protection." The Mongols did give the option for enemies to surrender and during their rule trade flourished along the silk road.
"He [Mordekeiser] was a Tyrant and all these different barbarian tribes that lived in the area actually combined their forces to overthrow him." - I believe Mordekeiser was supposed to represent the Jin dynasty who ruled in China and kept the small Nomadic Mongolian tribes at war to prevent an overthrow (spoiler, they unified and it failed). After Ghenghis Khan died, his children finally conquered the entirety of China.
"So in the North, it's expanded up towards the Frejlord pushing in the Frejlord up there. In the South, it's pushed to Shurima, it's actually taken over a whole bunch of northern Shuriman cities." - The Mongol empire has taken large parts of Siberia and eastern Europe. And as for Shurima, I believe it is meant to represent the Arabs and when they mentioned cities there I'm pretty sure it is hinting towards Mongols taking over Baghdad.
"To the east, they had an attack against Ionia but that did not go so well" - Like this whole post was suggesting about, the Mongols (Noxus) invasion of Japan (Ionia).

At the turn of the 20th Century Japan began modernising quickly and succeeded in spreading her influence far and beyond her own shores. The cultural influence of Japan spread into Asian and even European markets, with Japanese film-making receiving acclaim in certain quarters. High quality products marked with βMade in Japanβ were coveted by would-be consumers in the Americas and Europe alike. Ships from Japan, destined for either war or commercial use, quickly began closing the gap in terms of both quality and technology with their competitors in the USN and Royal Navy. The Rising Sun in the East was becoming a force to be reckoned with, not only in the Pacific but beyond.
As the Great War began, was fought, and concluded, Japan sat at the victorβs table with the Entente forces, but due to her position she was not able to achieve the claims deemed outrageous by many of her former allies. It would be the British and French nations that would claim the lionβs share at Versailles, though Japan would succeed in annexing many former German possessions in the Pacific.
As the years passed from the end of the Great War, the Red Scare of β25 would lead to the term βPacific Bulwarkβ entering the political lexicon of those powers concerned with the rise of Socialism. Investors from major powers would pour millions into the Japanese Economy as the Government of Japan sought to build a counter-measure to the Soviet threat now looming in the North.
In 1929 the Great Panic of the USA began, and with it the Japanese economy would be heavily affected due to the growing trade relations between the two nations. By the early years of the 1930βs the problems were largely overcome, though investment in the Japanese economy remains tentative. Should any further crisis occur, both the economic and political stability of the nation will be called into question.
Domestic politics of Japan are dominated by two parties; the Seiyukai and the Minseito, both with their separate affiliations to competing Zaibatsus and branches of the Japanese Armed Forces. The elections of 1936 loom ever closer, and with it the future of the nation may be decided.

If my calculations are correct, if Giants secure 1 point in any of their 3 remaining games (vs Vitality, Empire and G2 respectively), they are qualified to Japan.
Getting a draw gives Giants a total of 29 points, which means Empire can no longer beat them (max 28 points). Additionally, only one of NaVi and G2 can receive 29+ points (the winner of today's match - and if draw only G2 can).

What about the Soviet Union and British Armed Forces?
Emperor Meji was able to restore imperial rule in Japan and industrialize the nation like no other nation in East Asia. But how could the Empire of Japan establish itself as a major world power from the 1910's - 20's on until its enormous reach in 1942? How could a comperably small nation like Japan over power China and eventually occupy large parts of it?
