Saw one of these at my lgs today and now I really want one. It would be my first 1911. Most reviews I’ve read online are very positive, but if anyone here has one I’d love to hear your opinion. I got an emperor scorpion, he's about the length of my thumb, and I need advice.
I have noticed that he always acts the same while I am picking him up, but while on my hand he sometimes stays still, other times is very active, sometimes moves around quickly, other times slowly, and I don't know how to read this behaviour. I assume that being happy, relaxed, scared, or threatened, will change his behaviour while being handled (Or in general, I don't know). Could anyone help me read the mood of my scorpion, or explain why he sometimes runs around on my hands and other times is completely still. Any help would be appreciated.
Just to clarify, I understand that I shouldn't really handle him, this is very new to me and while I can pick him up and hold him, and enjoy it, I'm not 100% comfortable doing so yet. I'm getting myself used to him so I can care for him as best as I can and plan to handle him occasionally to keep me comfortable with him as he grows. Any advice at all would help me out.
I received an Emperor Scorpion sourced from a private breeder from my family for Christmas after I had gotten interested in owning arachnids about a month ago. He is about 4-5 inches from head to the end of his abdomen, overall he has eaten and done generally well. I still have some questions I have had a hard time finding clear answers to.
- Is blacklight bad for them? I heard answers ranging all over the place: from its fine for it to be on all night, to a few hours, to not at all. ( My current plan is to have it on a timer to be on the first three hours of the night.)
- In his temporary, but too small cage he made his own very small burrow. However, he has spent one day in his new 5.5 gallon that is a similar setup with two real plants to provide cover and a cork flat. He hasn't tried to burrow yet and just hides under the fern on the warm side. ( He is fairly well hidden though.) Do they always immediately build a burrow to hide or is it normal for them to spend some time hiding outside of the burrow?
Give them a couple of roaches and see. If the roaches become farmers it's an Emperor, if the roaches are shot dead next morning it's a Dictator.

Hey all - Did Sig stop making the Emperor Scorpion in 10mm all together? I can't find them listed on their site at all. There are a few for sale on GB with a pretty massive markup. Wondering if they're still making them or if I have to go that route.
I’m a gun noob, and even more of a Sig noob. Are emperor scorpions difficult to find for a decent price? A quick google search landed on a bunch of out of stock.
Local shop has one and I never even heard of sig doing a 10mm in this model. After researching it looks like a limited run type deal. Should I grab it? It's 1090$ I think it looks amazing but could it possibly go up in value because they're no longer being made?
Edit: I bought it in fear of my life, don't hurt me boys. Seriously though, I've never even held a 1911. It feels so right in my mits. Feels as if it was built for these hands. The balance, trigger, grip, sights, over all aesthetics.... ohh mama Johnny Bravo's voice
