##"Educazione ai Vaccini"; Vaccinated Education Law passes in Italy
######January 2020
Recently, cases of measles tripled in Europe. Italian lawmakers have decided that the anti-vax movement was a threat to children around the country. Due to the threat of unvaccinated children spreading diseases through school, Italy has banned children from entering school until they can present documents that officially prove a child's vaccination. The ban will only be until age six. Children from age 6 to 16 will not be banned, but parents will be fined for refusing vaccination. These fines will vary from a minimum of $450 to a maximum of $564 depending on the situation.
In addition, this vaccination law was placed after unvaccinated Italian students kept a cancer survivor out of school due to the survivors weaker immune system. The boy had a weakened immune system after undergoing nine months of chemotherapy treatment for leukemia, meaning he could not be vaccinated and exposure to a disease such as measles would put his life at risk. The government of Italy believes that no kid should be denied education due to another child.
In cities around Italy, schools have been suspending children who do not have up to date vaccinations.
> In Bologna, the local authority has set letters of suspension to the parents of some 300 children, and a total of 5,000 children do not have their vaccine documentation up to date.
Italy hopes that this law will prevent children from catching diseases, and will help promote proper health practices throughout the country.
