With more than 700 marsquakes detected so far, scientists have a clearer picture of the interior structure of Mars than ever before. That picture shows Mars has a liquid metal core, a thick mantle with a rocky layer above a more fluid layer, and a crust that is proportionally thicker than Earth’s. eos.org/articles/mars-fro…

[TOMT][Movie]Animated Children's short film set inside the earth's mantle, as the characters try to reach the surface

I originally saw this on a VHS as a child, likely a compilation of Canada NFB children's shorts or similar. I've gone through the NFB Catalogue to no avail.

The premise (as I recall) was a human society lived underground in a series of caves and lava tubes, surrounded by magma. Two (I think) kids were exploring the caves and discovered the magma they lived beside was rising, threatening their entire existence. They had to make an escape to the surface, which was only known by legend. Only the children made it to the surface, but they were greeted by a tropical utopia, with a view of the sun rising over the ocean and surrounded by lush plants, and that's where it ended.

The style was reminiscent of The Snowman or similar 80s children's animated shorts. I thought it was from Canada NFB, but I think that I may just be conflating the VHS is was on with another from my childhood. I would have seen it in the late 90s, but I can't date the release of the short.

Beyond searching the NFB Catalogue, I've done searches for all those keywords (children, mamga, underground, escape, animated, NFB, short, film, etc.) in various permutations and combinations.
