Update 2
Okay, there's miles and miles of misinformation flying around in this thread, lets clarify a few things!
These are digital signal processor drivers, designed to work with stereo headphones. The source audio can be stereo or multi channel encoded. The game does NOT need to be encoded for regular Dolby Atmos or DTS format to gain benefit from this, it only enhances the effect. Looking up a list of Dolby Atmos supported games isn't required in the slightest, stop spreading that misinformation.
Your headphones can be connected any way you choose - either by plugging in the controller directly, or by tapping into the HDMI audio out through a connected device such as your TV or sound system. It's best to turn off any other signal processing features, such as "Surround" mode built into some headphones with a button toggle. Here's a screenshot of the audio settings on the Series X showing the output settings
Both Dolby and DTS come with apps for Xbox and Windows that allow you to fine tune the audio profile and equalizer. Here is a gallery of screenshots I took from my Series X using the XCloud streaming: https://imgur.com/a/SbVV6zd
It is NOT a subscription, it is a one time license fee for a real time digital signal processor driver that lasts over many devices. The drivers are for both Xbox and Windows, and have exactly the same applications available for each from their respected stores.
My recommended best value headphones that many many other review sites have praised for years are the HyperX Cloud II's. They are on sale right now for $60 USD: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/search/shop/devices?q=HyperX . In the past, the cheaper HyperX CloudX use to be exactly the same headphones with just some accessory differences and a cable with inline controls, this is NO longer the case. They use slightly smaller drivers now and are no longer as good as the Cloud II's - be careful of outdated reviews.
So I get the basic idea for big stereos and multi channel systems. But how is it that it makes the music sound so much better on my HD560s coming from Amazon music on my iPhone with just the dongle adapter. Sounds significantly better than the better HD resolution available and honestly canβt figure out why. Is it that itβs just better? And how? Or is it that Amazon is pumping up better quality under Dolby Atmos?
I read different opinions about the best in-game audio setting, when you use Dolby Atmos for Headphones with a wireless headset.
Sometimes I read posts where they advice to set in-game audio to Stereo and Headphones.
Other posts say that you have to choose Surround Sound with Speakers.
So, to get this out of the way.. what's the best setting if the game gives you several options when you use Dolby Atmos or DTS:X for Headphones?
For instance, in Battlefield V .. you have several options in-game.
Sound preset: Speakers / TV / Headphones / 3D Headphones
Output Configuration: Stereo / Surround / Auto
In this Reddit post, it says the optimal setting is:
Xbox processing - Dolby Atmos (in my opinion the best setup)
To achieve this setup:
Xbox settings menu
In-game settings menu
But on other websites they say you have to choose Surround Sound in-game, otherwise the Dolby Atmos / DTS:X won't work.
Who has the definitive answer?
Hi, I'm looking to buy my first pair of headphones and would appreciate some help. No boomer mic needed.
So I really just want some headphones that can really put you in the game. I think this means I would enjoy open back the most, since what I believe would be most important for immersion is a large soundstage.
I do not play competitive FPS games. I do not care about being able to pinpoint footsteps, however, I do want positional audio because I really want to try out dolby atmos with newer games utilizing it such as the Resident Evil games.
I'm also wondering if bluetooth is an option for my usecase. But think it probably isn't. I remember when I had the Tribet I almost always used them plugged into my laptop because the sound quality was much better that way.
Thank you!
Budget - sub USD$100 preferred...could stretch to $130 max
Source/Amp - Straight to laptop & phone
How the gear will be used - Immersive gaming, especially horror (resident evil like games)
Preferred tonal balance - Neutral leaning toward trebel (in music...no clue about gaming)
Preferred music genre(s) - EDM, indie electronic music, funk
Past gear experience - Tribet Xfree Tune bluetooth headphones, Sony wf1000-XM3 earbuds
Headphones I'm considering
Which of these options do you guys think will offer better spatial audio in Atmos-enabled and regular 5.1 surround sound games? Usually most headsets seem to bundle something like DTS or their own software. In my case JBL Quantum Surround.
Is there an android app that does the same surround sound emulation as Dolby Atmos For Headphones or Windows Sonic on Windows? I have a stereo headphone connected via bluetooth to nvidia shield.
Hello everyone, i am going to sell my Medusa NX and would like to go for a wireless solution with atmos support since it's the big thing now. About 150$ budget. Any suggestions? I own a sound Blaster g6

I really appreciate the audio decoder of NPLAYER or INFUSE video player or STREAM APP on iOS device, the spatial audio experience is really great. And recentlly I found Dolby Access of Windows, it push the experience further more, but there are few spatial audio decoder for headphones recommendations. I wants to listen up yours experience about that.
iOS devices are compatible through the operation system, and Windows or Xbox need pay for Dolby Access in Store. This is all spatial audio decoder for headphones I konwn so far, are there any others devices have this kind of ability with high end headphones.
So I just got the new wieder Xbox stereo headset and I am thinking about buying Dolby atmos? Will it work and will it be worth it? Sadly my trial is already used up.
Just wondering if there's anything else I need to do in order for Dolby Atmos for Headphones to work. Here's a brief rundown of my setup: I have my audio(from game or movie) outputting to VoiceMeeter which then goes to a dac/amp, then to headphones. I have Dolby Atmos enabled in Dolby access and Dolby Atmos selected for spatial audio for VoiceMeeter and my dac. I also have Dolby Atmos selected in the normal sound settings. Will this work fine or do I need to change anything else, like the different output mixing things or something?
Iβm looking for a wireless headphone for my 2021 Razer Blade.
Dolby Atmos or THX?
Please let me know which one would be good for games, Teams meetings and listening to lectures?
When I use my AirPod Max, people canβt hear me in meetings but the sound quality is good enough for me.
I posted last week that the Dolby Atmos icon wasn't appearing when I played an Atmos song. I thought it was an Apple problem, and it sort of was.
When I did the latest iOS update, my Atmos setting changed to "Automatic". That was allowing the phone to default to Lossless. I went into settings and changed it to "Always On". That fixed it.
D'oh.
I would expect Dolby Atmos for Headphones to be able to play Dolby Atmos content, but it appears that isn't the case. There's no audio when I watch an Atmos TrueHD encoded video. Is this inherent limitation of Dolby Atmos for Headphones (can't decode 3D audio unless specifically encoded as Windows spatial audio?)
I know those Windows Spatial Sound software works with 5.1/7.1 virtual surround on most media players but do they work with true 3D Dolby Atmos and DTS:X?
Also, I know the Windows Films & TV app works well for Dolby Atmos but only for Dolby Digital Plus Atmos and not Dolby TrueHD Atmos. And I don't know how it handles DTS:X.
I'm pretty sure the first option must be correct since both work with games that can output 7.1 audio and Netflix shows mastered in 5.1 but not with Spotify which only outputs 2.0 but I want to be sure.
I paid for Dolby Atmos on Windows 10 after watching various tech reviews on the topic. It is consider by many as the "best" spatial audio option/software.
However, I've done bits of research, If I understand correctly, most games already have their own EQ / audio mix optimized for the desired output (headphones, stereo, 5.1, etc).
Some games even offer a 3D audio option in their settings. Overwatch also have integrated Atmos.
I tried games advertised as Dolby Atmos supported and they just sounded muddy and worse, also a lot quieter.
Does that make Dolby Atmos for Headphones redundant / unnecessary extra processing?
I'd assume headphone as the in game choice but I've been told otherwise. Does anyone know for sure. I was told that if you don't choose home theater or any 5.1 variant you won't get the spatial audio thru the headphones.
Hello there!
I'm having this particular issue where Dolby Atmos for Headphones or Windows Sonic is not getting engaged at all.
In the dolby access application the program is working its magic just fine. It processes sound and makes it 3D audio with accuracy but anything outside of dolby access is just regular stereo, no change in sound of any kind. I tried movies and TV, MPC BE + LAV filters (I have AVR X3500H surround 5.1 and it reads signal perfectly and plays correctly), surround sound 5.1 7.1 video games, but nothing is happening, doesn't matter whether it is dolby atmos for headphones or windows sonic, neither one is altering the sound and modulating it in any way after selecting either one of the two! They both sound 100% just like when I select "off".
What am I doing wrong? If I am doing some user error thing with Dolby Atmos for Headphones, Windows sonic at least should be working and changing the sound but neither one work!
Please help guys this is driving me crazy, I don't know what to do... The motherboards onboard audio definitely supports dolby atmos for headphones because I can hear proper amazing change in audio when I'm playing it WITHIN dolby access app but anything outside be it Dolby atmos for headphones or windows sonic, 0% difference between regular stereo, no matter the content, 5.1 or 7.1. >:(
Instructions how to activate it can be found here
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212182
And you can use any headphone for it. Not just Apple ones.
I'm thinking of buying it as currently there's a 30% discount. I tried it a while ago and thought it was great but I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks.

The latest Dolby Access app charges $14.99 for Dolby Atmos for Headphones. Dolby Atmos for Headphones allows you to experience Dolby Atmos through any set of headphones. Itβs free if you own a 2021 Zephyrus G15/M16. The Dolby audio driver to access this service is not automatically installed. Here is a quick guide on how to have Dolby Atmos for Headphones enabled.
You can find the Dolby Atmos at the very bottom of the MyASUS drivers section. OR: Direct Download (Asus.zip)
Installation: Unzip. As Administrator, click on the Install.bat. Then Reboot.
You will need to install Dolby Access app. Microsoft Store
Open the Dolby Access app. Click on Products on top. Dolby Atmos for Headphones should have a green checkmark with Ready to Use text.
Click on Settings on top and click on Dynamic. Enjoy your Dolby experience!
Hey all,
Just got my u7g recently and was wondering if Dolby Atmos /Spatial audio is possible on bluetooth Headphones? Haven't found anything saying it does or doesn't.
Also off topic, I notice white-ish spots on dark scenes. Is that a bad panel?
Thanks!!!
When I go into the Dolby access app and click on Dolby Atmos for headphones setup it tells me that I have to connect the headset to an Xbox controller or optical audio to configure Dolby Atmos but as far as I can tell the 700 gen 2 headset only connects directly to the Xbox. Has anyone run into this problem before? Am I missing something simple?
Iβm planning on buying a Xbox wireless headset and wondering if it will work with Apple Musicβs Spatial Audio. Will it work?
