A list of puns related to "Debut (Björk album)"
They all have amazing meanings behind them, like how Debut and Post are related, and my favorite one is Vespertine because there is something about that time of day that just feels both erotic and romantic and also safe and comfort
But as great as all the album names are, what would you rename them?
I’ve listened to all of Bjork’s albums and I’ve come with my top 3 albums
what are your favorites? trying to see something
MASSIVE DISCLAIMER: there seems to be a lot of discourse as to what order to listen to her albums, so I’ll be clear in saying that this is NOT a guide as to what order her albums should be listened to, it’s simply me documenting the journey I’m on and how I’m feeling so far.
Debut: I generally like to start at the beginning of an artist’s discography and work my way through it chronologically, and so that’s where I started. And it’s safe to say that I like this album, it’s a little bit of almost everything 90s, which is one of my favorite decades of music. I especially love the more house inspired tracks, such as There’s More To Life Than This, Violently Happy, Human Behavior, and Big Time Sensuality. Also Venus as a Boy and Like Someone In Love are such fun love songs, and I love Björk’s take on the latter.
Post: I was really excited for this one. My first Björk song was It’s Oh So Quiet, and it was such a colorful song, I imagined the rest of it was the same, and it’s safe to say it was. I think the highlight of this album for me though was the drill stuff, like Army of Me, Hyperballad and Enjoy. My go to track on this album would definitely be Possibly Maybe, it has such an eclectic sound and is so relatable.
Homogenic: This was the first Björk album that had me at attention all the way through. Not immediately, it took a couple relistens of the first three tracks of this album before it clicked for me, but one day Jóga came on my shuffle, and it dawned on me just what a god-tier song it was, and inspired me to listen to the rest of the album. A lot of people have described this album as “the sound of Iceland” and I have to agree. Songs like Hunter and Jòga sound as majestic as Icelandic landscapes are, and this album is breathtaking for that reason. My only complaint is that I feel that this album is frontloaded with bops, and it kind of makes the back half of the album a little underwhelming. Not that any of the tracks on the back half aren’t amazing, I can’t say I don’t like any of them, and the last leg of the album from Immature onward was definitely a highlight, but I can’t say any of these songs hold a candle to the bombast of the first two tracks.
Vespertine: There is not a single track on this album I dislike, it is definitely my favorite of the albums so far. I was aware of the compressed sound of the album going into it, but I sorely underestimated the role they would play in the atmosphere of this album. I think the track t
I'm probably alone in this but Utopia is her best album in my opinion, it's so warming in many ways. I love the flutes, birds and beats altogether. Probably I have this connection to it since it was also my first heard björk album but I can't hate this album, overall a good 9/10, not 10 because some songs are too long for no reason and without the climax eargasmic sounds.
I personally like to listen to them from start to finish because I love to hear the songs flow into each other and get into the feel of the album, and I usually reserve individual listens to her more pop/upbeat sounding songs or if I just need a sad song to listen to for when I’m crying.
I was making some tea for her and said,
“I think one thing we can see eye to eye about is that we both see the surreality beyond the reality.”
Probably gonna get downvoted multiple times, but I honestly can’t stand Debut. It’s a bit befuddling and dated (bland even). The only songs I like are Human behavior, one day, and Venus as a boy. I believe the live reinterpretations of the songs are much better and intimate. But as they are on the album, no thanks. People take shits on Volta and say it’s her “worst” album, but I truly think Debut deserves that title.
Mine is Fetch The Bolt Cutters - Fiona Apple
I'm super curious since like, even her weakest stuff is still so fukin good and the best albums are just magical and feel kinda impossible to compare.
Here's what i finally ended up with, if anyone wants to know (just based off how much i love them, nothing else):
Anyway, feel free to post your own lists and j̶u̶d̶g̶e̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶e̶l̶s̶e̶ explain why you think your faves are the best (◠‿◠✿)
I've always been a sucker for Violently Happy, which is also from her first album.
For years, I’ve always wanted to dive into Björk’s discography. It’s Oh So Quiet, Army of Me, Hyper-Ballad and Venus As A Boy are some of my favourite songs from my teen years (I also really enjoy her music with the Sugarcubes and the duet with serpentwithfeet)
I’ve wanted to expand my knowledge on Björk’s music but I’m not sure which album is the best to start with, they all seem vastly unique and different. What do you guys think is the best one to start with as fans?
I see people saying they prefer her early works or her later works, and I have a hard time deciding where to draw the line. At what point did Björk's discography make the transition?
Please ❤️
I was 16 when I bought Vulnicura this year from HMV. I’d only really started listening to her music just before Utopia was released so I was quite late to her music.
I am a huge fan of Björk and Sufjan and I love Suf's electronic side more. To me The Ascension is Björk-esque. I mean if Björk released an album sounds like The Ascension I wouldn't find it odd. What do you think? I would give my left hand to see a Suf and Björk collaboration, lol.
And the fact that they released their most heartbreaking album in the same year (actually Vulnicura was to be released on the same day as Carrie and Lowell but it is leaked way earlier) gets me every time. Probably I couldn't bear such sadness on the same day.
This year Mariah released a whole album of demos and album rejects from the start of her career to now and it was amazing to see what didn't make the cut on her albums. I would love to see what Björk ended up leaving off her albums, and how tracks evolved from their demos to the final tracks. Greatest Hits/Family Tree sort of did this, but she's done so much more since then.
My list from Best to not so good:
Utopia Homogenic Vulnicura Medúlla Post Vespertine Debut Biophilia Volta (the alternative Volta cover is better than the red one)
