A list of puns related to "Clifton Fadiman"
I'm very curious as to what people think of a list like this made for the general public? It seems that such a structured reading list would be negligible for the vast majority of the sub but does seems to hold value for those who are not nearly as exposed to the vastness of literature as most of us are.
Sure, certain things are arguable in the case of this list, as whether or not it is 'correct' to include Saul Bellows and the fact that DFW and Cormac McCarthy are not included, ect. but a lot of great modern literature requires an extensive and established sense of critique, something only acquired by vast reading of past great works. It's hard to realize the greatness of Ulysses or Gravity's Rainbow or Infinite Jest without having read the works they were predicated or built upon.
If I were to give this list to my girlfriend, I would cut it down a little bit to leave her more time to dive into other works once its finished and also organize the list in a way that is focused not on historical genealogy but instead variety of interest, so maybe Plato would be followed by Nabokov or Woolf and then Wordsworth would be followed by the Tale of Genji, ect., so that she immediately gains a larger variety of works. If she were to only read 10 books, it would not just be relegated to the greeks but dip a little bit into everything while building towards the more complicated works.
Anyway, the adverseness to reading lists seems to stem from the idea of Western Literary Canonβ’, which discourages exploring differing perspectives but a reading list like this seems to put some effort into combating such an idea.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
