A list of puns related to "Cheng Yen"
A previous thread I made about her here.
Here are some more of her advice and my thoughts on them. I would be glad to hear your own reactions to her advice.
> During times when we are free to do whatever we please, we are deceived by this freedom into wasting time unknowingly.
And moreover, when I am free to do whatever I please, what turns out to please me actually disturbs me, namely it's disturbing that I find pleasure in such things! It's totally disturbing that in my free time, I choose to drown myself in such trivialities, mindlessness and hedonism.
I find myself disatisfied with my freedom to do whatever I please, and this might be why I push myself to not be free. I'm happiest when I'm working, when I'm not free to do whatever I please, when I'm not alone with myself, when I don't have to look in the mirror and have time to be alone with my terrible thoughts and desires. To forget the self is my favourite time.
This reminds me of what Blaise Pascal, one of my favourite theologians, says about the unhappiness of man. He says that all the unhappiness of man comes from not being able to sit alone peaceably in a room. I'm sure those who do shikantaza can testify to this!
>When the mind is without evil thoughts or deviant mindfulness, one will be able to always feel at ease. When the mind is proper, evil does not come near.
For me, I'm always at dis-ease. If I'm uncomfortable, if I don't feel right, if I feel on edge around people, well that just might be due to social anxiety, but I'm sure it also has a healthy lot to do with the fact that my mind is full of evil thoughts and deviant mindfulness. For example, if my mind was pure, clear and consistently concentrated on the benefit of others, then what need of embarassment? What need of anxiety over being 'found out' to be a liar or not who I present myself to be in clothes, actions, deeds and words? If I am honest, made out of transparent material, then what is there to be afraid of? If my mind was pure, then I would not be focusing on such things like 'do I need to make funny jokes to make people notice me?' or 'do I need to input my opinion or argue with people concerning things because I think they are wrong and I am right'?
So my new practice. Before, during and after things like meeting new people, I will examine myself and see if I am at dis-ease. If my fingers are fidgety, if my mind is wandering and

> One does not have to listen to too many teachings. Merely using one's body to act out a simple verse of the sutras is the true Dharma, the true root of virtue.
This keeps me grounded in my studies. It's also reminds me of something I once said to someone who asked why we don't know much about Jesus' life, only his teaching career. I said that if we couldn't follow one sentence of his teaching, then it wouldn't matter if we had many libraries about his life and teachings. If we don't seem to be capable of 'loving our enemy', which in translation is just three words, then what would it matter if the entire Bible was burned?
Similarly, what is the use of all my study? Is it just for study's sake?
> If one regards others with a Buddha-mind, everyone is a Buddha. If one regards others with an evil mind, ghostly shadows float around everywhere.
This helped me today on the train. Often I encounter people who frighten me, sometimes because of their substance abuse or mental illness, but it helps to realise that this fear and darkness I feel comes from me, not from them. This also removes the possibility of knee-jerk reacting against helping people you are frightened of or dislike.
> Those who can save others are called Bodhisattvas. If what you give in one day has come to good use, then for that one day you are a Bodhisattva.
I'd like to be a Bodhisattva for one day of this earthly life.
> True, wonderful Dharma flows out from wisdom. True compassion is motivated by the force of wisdom.
> Kuan Shi Yin Bodhisattva uses a "Complete Compassionate Mind", which is a detailed, cautious atttitude, to contemplate the hidden evils in the movement and stillness of the world and to regard all kinds of sufferings.
> Then the Bodhisattva uses "the strength of wisdom" to save all the suffering beings in the world.
For a long time I was puzzled over why prajna was so valued by the Mahayana, moreso than anything else, why wisdom had to be centrepiece of a bodhisattva's perfections, but now I think I'm beginning to understand, I think. Wisdom gives the form to one's compassion (it tells you how to be compassionate, concretely and how to skilfully use means in order to accomplish this), and it justifies compassion because wisdom tells you of the three marks, emptiness

Hello everyone, my name is NothingHere, and I am the current moderation lead for the TNO submod, The Red Order: First Days of Eurasia. 100 years ago today, the Qing Empire saw the beginning of the Wuchang Uprising, an uprising which turned into a revolution, ending over 2,000 years of imperial rule in China. To celebrate such an important event in Chinese history, we shall be exploring the first year of gameplay for the Republic of China. Before that however, I first would like to thank our current China Team Lead, Offensive Orangutan, who will be giving you a tour of the Republic today. I would also like to thank our Writing Lead mmm for editing many pieces of writing you will see today, and finally the entire China Team for their contribution to this project as a whole. With that out of the way, here is Offensive Orangutan with the rest of the diary.
Hello, this is Offensive Orangutan. First off, welcome to the second TRO Dev Diary! Second off, I hate every single one of you. Before we begin with key gameplay elements and themes, I would like to bore you with an unhealthy injection of lore.
History:
With the victory of Bukharin over his adversaries in the Soviet Union, the Kuomintang, much like in real life, would have still committed the massacres and pogroms against the Communists. Bukharin historically never much advocated a severe foreign policy in regards to the Chinese Question, and here he simply reenacts the events of real life, at least to a point. It is only with the events of the Japanese invasion that things take a turn.
Much like real life, the Kuomintang and the Communists are forced into a united front on orders of the Comintern and the Xi'an Incident. The Soviet Union continues its assistance to China, and eventually, a stalemate is reached at the Battle of Taiโerzhuang. Things do not change until one fateful day, when the American behemoth is awoken from its slumber.
With Joseph Kennedy Sr. as President of the United States, it is Albert Wedermeyer, as opposed to Joseph "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell, who is sent to China to assist Chiang Kai Shek's forces. An ardent anti-communist, Wedermeyer managed to find a compatriot in Chiang Kai-shek, reinforcing a far more sympathetic view of the Kuomintang in this timeline as opposed to the dismal one held by the Roose

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Its been a rocky ride for Oramed (NASDAQ: ORMP) over the past week or so. Last week's short report (of questionable authorship I may add, saw a DD that raised some important points qualifying Parallax Bio's argument) led to a drop from ~$27 to ~$17 on 11.23. The ticker tried rallied over the coming days, but the Black Friday smack-down has them back at around $18. For fellow ORMP holders that were panicking during last week's roller-coaster, today may provide a much-needed bullish catalyst.
As announced on 11.24, today Oramed will officially join the MSCI USA Small Cap Index at mkt close. The MSCI USA Small Cap Index is designed to measure the performance of the small cap segment of the U.S. equity market. With 1,851 constituents, the index represents approximately 14% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in the U.S. Key exposures of risk and return in the index include small capitalization, value, and momentum, with 14% of the index in healthcare. This move follows in the wake of the company's inclusion within the Russell 2000 and 3000 Indexes, both key indicators for the health of the American market as a whole.
So why does this matter? Quoting here: "In Regression Discontinuity and the Price Effects of Stock Market Indexing (NBER Working Paper No. 19290), Yen-cheng Chang, Harrison Hong, and Inessa Liskovich find that when a company moves from the Russell 1000 to the Russell 2000, its share price rises. The reverse move triggers a stock price decline... Past studies have found that companies added to the S&P 500 experience increases in their share values, and yet recent studies with the largest samples also have shown that there are no corresponding declines in share values when firms are deleted from that index. That seeming paradox has led some to conclude that the share-price increases might not only be tied to buying by passive stock-index funds or institutional investors who are benchmarked to various indexes. Rather, the spike in share prices might be associated with an increase in earnings forecasts and improvements in realized earnings at the time a firm is added to an index." Every time one of those "what are some idol names you donโt know how pronounce" posts comes up, I die a little inside from the sheer amount of Chinese (when I use this Iโm referring to all of Greater China because itโs easier that way) idolsโ names in the comments. So, hereโs me attempting to teach yโall how to pronounce these names (with audio recordings!). (I mean I couldโve just done the audio recordings but that would make this post boring.) (If yโall have any requests just leave them in the comments and Iโll add them to the post.) (These are all Mandarin names because my Cantonese level is: nei5hou2.)
This post has absolutely no order and Iโm just doing whatever idol comes to mind
Letโs start with the ones that confounds us all: Chou Tzuyu / ๅจๅญ็ / Zhลu Ziyรบ. Taiwan uses Wade-Giles more often than Pinyin, which is why I think people get confounded by her name.
Xiao Dejun / ่ๅพทไฟ / Xiร o Dรฉjรนn (aka Xiaojun)
Huang Renjun / ้ปไปไฟ / Huรกng Rรฉnjรนn how Renjun is written in Hangul (๋ฐ์ฅ) annoys me to no end because imo ๋ ์ฅ would make so much more sense and is closer to the actual pronunciation)
Song Yuqi / ๅฎ้จ็ฆ / Sรฒng Yวqรญ
Zhong Chenle / ้่พฐไน / Zhลng Chรฉnlรจ
Xu Minghao / ๅพๆๆตฉ / Xรบ Mรญnghร o (aka THE8)
I guess the concept didn't work
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
Do your worst!
How the hell am I suppose to know when itโs raining in Sweden?
Ants donโt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
