I have a deep love of random story and character generators. I've been accumulating quite a few, and am looking for more.
There are no affiliate links here, or any association between the companies and me other than a big affection for the stuff I linked. I just want to show what I've found and hear what other people have come across.
Here's what I have:
Roll & Play - Game Master's Toolkit and Fantasy Character Kit
These books are great for making random world elements, encounters, potions, character quirks and backgrounds, all kinds of stuff. They're less specific than other stuff here, but great for bringing to a game when you don't fully know what you'll need.
Fatum
This is one of my favorites. This character generator is inspired by tarot card readings. You deal a species, class, conflict, and location, many of which have options to branch out and expand the story. The prompts are vague enough that you can interpret them in many ways to make it fit your world or into another character's backstory. The one I linked is common fantasy, but they're soon releasing modern and sci-fi additions to make more variation. They've also adapted it into an app for Android, but I'm not sure about iPhone.
The Story Engine Deck
This is my absolute favorite of all of these. You draw cards for different pieces of a story, like the agent, conflict, etc, and piece them together. Every card has multiple options on it, so you're given a lot of flexibility in what you want to make. It has small add-on packs for including elements of sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk, horror, all kinds of options for sprinkles of flavor. They're also soon releasing one for generating locations like settlements, ruins, and the like, along with unique backstories for them. Pricey, but so highly recommended if you have the funds.
The GameMaster's Apprentice
This deck has names, items, sensory info (what you see, smell, feel, and hear), probability, dice rolls, location, story prompt, symbols to interpret, and more. It's great for a highly randomized game, or for figuring out what happens in a random dungeon room. T

Hello, Mutants! Come one come all to a wonderful little program that I wrote in the course of 12 hours and improved over the consecutive 5! That's right! I spent all day on this damned thing so you better like it!
This is a universal MYZ character sheet generator! It will generate a sheet, and supports many features, such as:
- Trait Choice: Don't want traits to be randomly selected from Core, but want an Elysium-exclusive traited character? Go ahead! Want less traits to chose from so the higher levels will go towards skills? Shoot for the moon!
- Levels: Want to make a brand new character, or a character that's been in the field for longer and has a few levels under their belt to spend on skills and traits? Go for it! You can make a character ranging from level 0 to level 20!
- Reputation: This bad boy will keep track of your traits per the kind of character you want to make!
- 100% RAW Legal: No Level 0 character will have a skill over 3, no character with "Jack of All Trades" can keep "Jack of All Trades" without having 3 traits before hand, one trait choice is always your class, it's all sound!
-Editability: Enjoy coding and want to introduce your own homebrew traits, charactertypes, professions? Go for it! This is uncompiled code, and should be fairly easy to read.
-Sheet Saving: Like a generated character so much you could just dunk them in your coffee and eat them? Unfortunately, that's not something we can do, but the script can save the character sheet in a .txt file! That should be just as good, right? Just be sure to put the script in a folder of its own so you can find the generated files easier!
What it DOES NOT do:
-Does not randomly generate:
Powers (Mutations, Modules, Psionics, Contacts, Feral Powers) [I COULD implement contacts, if convinced!]
Robot parts (Please god spare me)
-Does not spoil any of the books
-Will not save your life when you're dying from rot, kinetic injury or otherwise
-Provide refunds (This is a joke the script is entirely free)

Don't get me wrong I love this game, and I understand why suturing and splint weren't locked under medical skill since it would made for a pretty frustrating experience if you got hurt, but maybe adding an option would be cool, or as a mod. especially for when MP comes out which would make doctor's way more valuable which I think would be the case in a zombie apocalypse,
ps: this is nothing immersion breaking just a fun thought.
