Hello all. Today I got a voicemail from American Express offering the centurion card. They said I missed their call and they would be calling back later today. Right now I am running an Amex trifecta (Plat, Gold, Green). If I was to upgrade the obvious choice would be ditching the Plat. I have done some research and found that the first year would be 15k and 5k every year after that. This is incredibly expensive and despite being offered money is still an object to me. That being said if the Centurion offers enough benefits over the Platinum I will strongly consider upgrading. Being able to carry a flashy card is not a benefit for me. Let me know what you all think. Thank you again.

Update: It was legitimate. I have a card now.

A bit of a follow-up: how did CC companies at the time secure their cards from identity theft? How would non-digital POS systems of the time be able to detect counterfeits?

Hi everyone. In addition to working at r/bestbuy (United States), I am a Platinum cardholder and a huge fan of American Express

Well today at work, I was helping an older gentlemen purchase the new Apple TV. We got to the register and I started ringing him out and I saw him pull a black American Express card out of his wallet and I immediately got excited

I asked him, “Is that the Centurion card?” and the older gentlemen laughed and said “Yes it is” to which I immediately told him that I was jealous and we had a nice little conversation about the card before he left

Now, I don’t really know if anybody here actually cares but I hope to at some point in my life have the Centurion card myself and as dumb as it might sound, seeing it in person today and that customer made my whole day so I thought I would share it with everybody here

Was recently offered by AMEX their Centurion / Black card.

So, who here has it or had it previously, and is it worth getting for the benefits? Why are you keeping it, or why did you get rid of it?

As an FYI for 2021 they bumped up both the card initiation fee to $10K and the annual fee to $5K (previously $7500 and $2500).

Edit: Biz version is available too, which would reduce above cost(s) by top marginal tax bracket as deductible through our business.

Edit 3: To clarify, this is for US version of the card. Initiation and annual fees are different in non-US countries. And I’m guessing card perks may be somewhat different elsewhere too.

I was recently invited by email to sign up for Centurion. I know that there is a lot of mystery around the process so hopefully this post will be useful for people using the search function to find out more about UK Centurion. I have been aiming to get their card for years so I have benefitted from reading the experience of other Centurion holders along the way. The sign up process was very easy and quick, I received my card a little over a week after my invite was received.

• I have been with Amex for over a decade, originally with the gold card and in the last five years platinum.

• My recent spend has been approx 2019 £115k 2020 £170k 2021 YTD £90k

• approx £80k of the spend has been on jewellery in the last 18 months or so. Also £15k worth of travel (which has now all been refunded as none of the holidays could go ahead due to COVID)

• I have never expressed an interest to join Centurion so their approach was unexpected as I thought the minimum spend would be higher to get an invite

• It has cost me £5200, inclusive of a £3k joining fee. I received a welcome pack with a ‘centurion’ luggage badge which I find kind of naff. I also got a free centurion supplementary card for my wife.

• curiously my old platinum account is still active and I have had to setup a completely new online Amex account to access my centurion account, which I have found a little cumbersome. I will get round to closing my platinum account in due course.

Do you guys know if AmEx is already shipping the new design cards?

I currently use the AMEX Platinum but only charge approximately 1k-3k a month to it and primarily use the chase sapphire to rack up points. Both of these cards have similar benefits. One reason to switch from using the Sapphire to the Platinum (as primary) would be to build a larger “charge history” to eventually be eligible (maybe? Hopefully?) for the Centurion. I’m thinking ahead to the next year or so when my family and I can start traveling again.

Is it even worth it though? Should I just stick to the Platinum or Sapphire and let go of the “black card dream”?

Hey folks!

Was sent a mailer to upgrade to the Platinum card and to my surprise I was approved! As it turns out, I'm flying through CLT tomorrow and figured I'd check out the Centurion Lounge there during my layover. However, I don't have the physical card with me as AMEX estimated 10 business days for it to arrive.

It's been a while since I've visited a Centurion lounge and I've always had a physical Amex Platinum card when I did. Is it possible to enter via digital wallet/Apple Pay?

Since when does the Centurion have a investment bank variant. I know the Goldman Sachs Platinum but I thought the Centurion was only vanilla Personal or Business. A quick google search and I can't find any info about this variant, not even a photo.

Just thought I'd share. Given you have to be a GS PWM client ($10M in investable assets with GS) to get invited for the Platinum, that would probably make the GS Centurion the hardest AMEX to get, even harder than the vanilla Centurion and Business Centurion.

EDIT: Multiple sites including TPG (https://thepointsguy.com/news/amex-cell-phone-protection/amp/) are also reporting the Centurion Card Exclusively for Goldman Sachs so my guess is it's either an unreleased product or it's the most secretive USA AMEX card to exist.
