As an Armenian, I don't trust our sources saying that Alexander the Great didn't conquer Armenia, but sent a general named Mithranes here. I would love to know the details of this matter since I see many maps that imply Alexander's conquest of Vaspurakan And Taron regions of Historical Armenia.

Sources of this include this Link

Then there is this Quora thread

I hope I can understand the matter of Armenia's conquest if it happened in the same fashion as in Anatolian kingdoms or even Mesopotamia and Iran.

How much evidence is there for historical cannibalism in the Congo region?

I am asking this because there are a lot of accounts of european explorers and such about witnessing widespread cannibalism in the Congo region among tribes/groups such as the Azande, Mangbetu, Lufembe, Ngombe, Basonge and Batetele. Tales of executing and eating slave girls, war captives etc, women, babies, men all the same.

I wonder whether these accounts are trustworthy? I know the europeans used them as justification for colonization and such during the CFS, and I can perhaps see why if they were true.

But how much actual evidence is there fore indigenous cannibalism in Congo?

Historical European Cider Presses - Normandy region

Mostly writing this down for anyone interested. I saw a youtube video recently on spanish cider making that got me interested in how cottage cider operations pre-industrial era organized their mills and presses.

I assumed they built in units in dedicated outbuildings rather than having basket presses as stand alone portable items which we all might be more familiar with. The engraving shown caught my eye as an interesting system but I couldn't figure out all how it would be operated. I also found a video (in French) showing historical examples and one in operation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnIgq3RS6wM. Operation starts at about 3min. Essentially its a lever exerting force on a basket or "cheese" style press hoisted on one end by a wood or cast iron screw operated like a capstan.

Looks like an interesting low tech (non-hydraulic or bladder) press for those interested in the aesthetics or those who dabble in carpentry or timber framing.

Fantasy/Historical Fiction Novel of a deformed baby from a noble family that is thrown away or sold into slavery in North Africa/Middle East/Similar Region.

The main character is a baby/child of a noble family in England/eastern Europe. He is then thrown away or sold into slavery to middle eastern region. The novel details his life under a wealthy Islamic man and his eventual escape back to England through a boat. Cannot remember if he was deformed from the get go or due to his abuse and trauma as a slave.

PS: This is a refined post from an earlier one where I remembered some details.
