Carla's second cookbook is coming out. In this thread, feel free to discuss the contents of the cookbook, and also feel free to post evidence of your adventures in the kitchen with the cookbook in this thread, but also feel free to post them in their own thread.
Carla Lalli Music was the Test Kitchen Director at Bon Appetit. She hosted the series, Back-to-Back, a series where guest celebrities and Carla would stand back to back, and Carla would describe her actions towards making the dish out loud, and the guest would have to try to replicate it to the best of their ability. She was also featured in several episodes of From the Test Kitchen and Making Perfect. Since releasing her previous cookbook, Where Cooking Begins, she has moved into a freelance role, still making videos for her own Patreon and Youtube Channel,
... keep reading on reddit β‘I was browsing Bon Appetitβs website to see if there was a way to send a message in response to todayβs emailed newsletter about the BA Hot 10 Restaurants (which has always been my least favorite issue each year, for many of the reasons Digital Restaurant Editor Elyse Inamine laid out in her letter).
βContact Bon Appetitβ took me to their digital masthead which lists the staff and titles. I noticed Carla Lalli Music is not currently listed as Food Editor At Large and does not appear anywhere on the list.
Using the Wayback Machine, I confirmed she was on this page as recently as June 6, but her title was outdated even for that day; it listed her as Food Director, a title she last held in December 2019. This suggests the page was not actively kept updated at this time. She is no longer on the masthead by June 13, after Rapoportβs resignation and a big staff restructure.
Now, she still has this title in her instagram account bio, but she hasnβt been active there for a while. She is active on Twitter in the last couple of days and her BA Food Editor at Large title is not in her Twitter bio, but she is talking about BA colleagues.
Itβs possible someone accidentally removed her name when they changed this whole top section of senior staff and this is simply an oversight. In the Jun/Jul print issue (mailed out pre-Rapo departure), she is grouped with the Test Kitchen staff and food editors, whereas when she was Food Director she was in the top section. A lot of names have been moved or removed entirely from this page since June 6, but Carlaβs total exclusion seems notable to me if itβs not an oversight. Other Contributing writers (Claire, Priya, Rick) and Amiel as Editor at Large still appear so thereβs no reason Carla should not be on the list if she is still working with BA. But two weeks feels like a long time for news of her departure to not have come out, which is the main reason I wonder if this is just an accident.
And no, I never did find out how to actually contact Bon Appetit with feedback, or else I would have asked them of this was an error. :/
ETA: Wayback Machine for June 6 Masthead (for comparison): https://web.archive.org/web/20200606142103/https://www.bonappetit.com/story/digital-masthead ETA2: Added Elyse Inamine's correct title.
I have such fond memories of coming back from school, college and watch these shows in the evening with family. Especially Silli Lalli - it was really funny.
I searched online and couldn't find any proper sources to watch all the episodes. Youtube has some 10 minutes clips and Voot has the new season with all different cast.
Anybody know where I can find them?
Some silli lalli dialogies dialogues if you're a fan:
"I'm doctor vittal rao very famous in surgery and barjari, come on tell me whats your problem and show me your loong tongue"
"Hrudaya gedda geleya Ranganath"
"Nooonsense!" - palli
"Soiiii thapakk"
"Muraari, yenappa ninna leele"
"Naanu samaja sevaki lalithamba, nanna nambi, please, please!"
Characters like chikkodi chinnaswami, so funny!
Oh mann, love that show!
Hey - This is Paul Peck, the Bonnaroo SuperJam producer. My strategy in creating a Superjam is to dream up the biggest dream I can come up with and try to make it happen. In 2014, my dream was to build a mulit-genre epic dance party around Skrillex. Sonny signed on and then we set out to get Big Gigantic as the backbone for the band. When they joined the team, Dom Lalli became the music director and as you can see from the show, knocked it out the park.
Hey - Itβs Dom from Big Gigantic, music director of the Skrillex & Friends SuperJam at Bonnaroo 2014. It was amazing to have the chance to work closely with all the enormously talented artists on this show.
DROP ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE AND WE'LL BE BACK AT 8PM ET TONIGHT TO ANSWER 'EM!

Does anyone know what's the Spaniah song in the first episode when Carla is washing her hands?
