A list of puns related to "Calvary Chapel"
Hello, all. Not sure if this church has been discussed yet (didn't find too much? but just enough to where i need to say something), or if anyone would even consider them a cult? But i on the other hand do believe they are a cult. If you have your doubts, or you disagree with me, please stick around for a little bit longer.
i was born in the early 80's, and was even going to Calvary Chapel then. During the 90's i would say was their peek (but wasn't most non-dom churches basically lit during the 90's?! um, hello? Audio Adrenaline, The Supertones,Cornerstone Fest, tooth&nail, i could go on and on, but you get the point). My parents, hippies, had a typical southern CA., "i got saved on the beach, man!!" story, while listening to Chuck Smith talk. What was once my fun loving, weed smoking, truly happy parents, i watched turn into the boomers they are now. I'm sure you know the kind, FOX news is the word, conspicery theory, hoarding all the TP, republican jesus, nut jobs! its sad.
I was not allowed to listen to secular music. in fact, i remember coming home from a youth group hang at a friends house when i was 14yrs old, walking into my room, and seeing my mother sitting on my bed with all my CD's and Tapes that were secular, just sitting there besides her. instantly i felt sick to my stomach. i knew i was in SO much trouble. because the longer i stood there in shock, i started to noticed that she was even reading the lyrics, the sleeves were out of the jackets. She is sitting there crying saying, "how could you listen to such filth? Am i a bad mom? what did i do wrong? do you know what these men are saying!? I'm so ashamed, and disappointed in you. don't even tell me you're sorry! because I'm not the one you need to apologies to, you need to tell Jesus you're sorry!". looking back now as an adult, and as a parent to children who honestly don't know what praise and worship is, is really sad. "who is this woman?" i thought to myself many of times, "what happened to her?", is the other. To feel that sick to your stomach as a kid over music is insane. The amount of anxiety i had growing up over the smallest of normal things, was the stuff i knew i would be in SO much trouble for, it was beyond ridiculous. i mean, the CD's and tapes she found?? Real big fish, rancid, blink182, and a bunch of other bands like that. she made me not just throw them away, but instead we burned them as if we were sending those cd's back to hell where they came from!! i would ju
... keep reading on reddit β‘Greetings! So, I just wanted to throw the question out there - what are people's opinions on the Calvary Chapel movement?
I personally have been a member of a CC church for roughly 4 years now and have certainly been blessed by the moment and matured in my walk with Christ as a result.
With that said, I do differ with their theology somewhat (examples: I'm obviously more reformed in my soteriology and not a pre-trib guy) and am a bit troubled by some things in their history (examples: instances of anti-intellectualism, conflating conspiracy theories with end time prophecy and a false prediction of the rapture). Then again, what denomination or movement doesn't have it's blemishes?
TLDR, positive or negative; what are people's thoughts on Calvary Chapel?
I don't attend, but there seems to be a big dust up going on there about getting the old timer to step down. For a church there sure is a lot of hate going on amongst their FB page posters LOL.
Recently, a former employee of CCWC (Calvary Chapel Worship Center) shared in her Instagram stories about the mental, racial and sexual abuse she endured while working there as a teen and young adult. She also asked her followers to share their stories with her so that she could call out some of the current and past leaders who are responsible for this abuse - thinking 3 or 4 people might share what happened to them. Well, instead of 3 or 4 people her DMs filled up with hundreds of responses. As far as we currently know, the abuse of children and teens has gone on for over 20 years and has destroyed countless lives. The wildest part of it all is that there was so much gaslighting and manipulation done to the victims that they have all kept quiet because they thought they were the only ones - until NOW.
To fully understand how horrific this abuse is, you must go to her Instagram page and read these stories yourself. There are 3 parts located on her page saved under her stories and she continues to share more as she receives them: Instagram stories of Religious Trauma
It might be too late for some of the older victims, but we can save the children that are currently there going through this.
Ccwc needs to be shut down. Plain and simple. Bill Strayer and his staff need to be held accountable. He has covered up this abuse for too long because all he truly cares about is getting people in the seats so he can get cash. He is NOT an example of Christβs love. He is a wolf in sheepβs clothing.
Strayer allowed a known sex predator (Scott Wright) to be a youth pastor - even though Wright sexually assaulted a girl in 2003. Wright went on to sexually assault so many girls over the years - itβs absolutely heartbreaking to hear. It didnβt stop until he was arrested - but he couldnβt even receive his full conviction because Strayer convinced everyone not to talk to the detectives. But Wright wasnβt the only one - so many took part in either abusing teens, enabling abusers or covering it up.
Get your children away from Ccwc.
Help us. How do we stop this cycle of abuse? Do we flood the church social media, phones, emails, etc calling them out for what they have done? Do we go to the media? This has to end. The community needs to protect their children from this CULT that is pretending to be a church.
How many more Ccwc victims must there be before this stops?
Hey everyone,
I have really been enjoying the conversations taking place in this sub. I'm curious to know if any of you are familiar with Calvary Chapel or were raised in any of these churches? I feel like Calvary Chapel is a niche even among the evangelical strain of American Christianity. I'd love to hear what that was like for others!
I have family that attends one of these churches and they always seem high anxiety about the rapture. Their church recently had a "prophecy update" which I watched because I wanted to see what kind of messaging they were getting. It was over 2 hours of America-centric Revelations garbage and somehow I endured the whole thing. It was heavily implied that Biden is the antichrist even if the pastor didn't say it outright. You could hear the fearful gasps from the congregation.
Anyway, I don't have personal experience with this church, so wanted to hear from anyone who might know more.

The church opened a few weeks ago with services on Wednesdays and Fridays. Surprised that there is no mention in the news.
