A list of puns related to "Call Girl of Cthulhu"
In the first couple of minutes of the film I'm thinking, "I can't watch this, it's just some corny soft porn film.", because it just gave off that vibe with the acting and nudity. But then, there's is a flash of Cthulhu and the practical effects alone sucked me in (no pun intended).
Shortly after, the humor of the film had me laughing out loud. Before I knew it, I actually started liking the characters. Emotionally, what ends up transpiring, I felt compassion for the call girl and virgin artist who falls for her, and the virgin's neighbor.
The practical effects were actually very good and entertaining; and progressed into a brutal gore fest. As does the story itself. (I only remember one quick scene with CGI that was so terrible, it was good.)
Truly is a hidden gem imo.
Iβm running a role playing game next weekend, based on a mixture of Stranger Things, Derry Girls and Call of Cthulhu, and using the system of Tales From the Loop. I havenβt settled on the adventure plot (mystery), but going to make it a one-shot to start with, played in one session. Itβs going to be set in Carlingford, Co. Louth, and feature the (mis)adventures of three kids growing up under the shadow of the Troubles, the Cold War, and something more sinister from Irelandβs past.
If anyoneβs got any ideas, suggestions, or inspiration please share! Iβll do another post to let you know how it goes, and I can share material if anyoneβs interested.
EDIT: Wow! This got a whole lot more interest than I was expecting. There are some brilliant ideas here - I hope no-one minds if I shamelessly steal them for the adventure. I'll do a post next week to share what I assembled; hopefully this is one of many future games set in this weird country of ours. Thanks everyone!
Last night I attempted to run a session of Pulp Cthulhu combat with 6 investigators and 5 cops assisting, against 25 cultists (no weapons), 1 high priest, a monster confined to a pit and 2 zombies.
I found the mechanics incredibly difficult to run because although I grouped the cops and cultists into teams of five, and thought I could roll a "action die" for each (rolling a d6 with 4-6 succeeding), instead of using a d100 for each, it got sticky when trying to do something like dodge or fight back with a maneuver and tracking individual health for NPCs within the group. I found myself in opposed rolls with a d100 on actionable successes, and ear marking indivuals HP and reactions from the groups for failures.
We found that we frequently would forget the attacks from the initiator targets that failed to defend and applying damage. Plus it sort of felt like each PC was given essentially 5 attacks per round this way. Which was possibly why we had the compulsion to want to make individual opposed rolls and roll for damage instead of using flat damage...
Basically we made everything more complicated instead of easy.
I hope all this made sense in trying to explain it, cause I know my game last night bearly did.
Do any Keepers have better mechanics for large combat scenes like this?
I thought pulp cthulhu rules it would have included something like this since players can be a bit more wreckless, like taking on a group during a ritual, but I couldn't find anything on it.
Thanks in advance for any help!
TLDR/ What's the simplest way to handle combat against large group numbers in Pulp Cthulhu?
I was watching this movie that is sort of a B movie, called Call Girl of Cthulhu, and before every cut to another scene, the characters would say a word, and the next frame would be an object or action that represents that word. For example, a character would say "something something book", then cut, next frame a book, unrelated to the one the characters where talking about in The previous scene.
I don't know if this is a widespread technique or if it this Just a B movie thing or even if it is a moment of brilliance by The filmmakers.
Anyway, just wanted to share this "discovery" and if any of you know of other examples of this technique, please share! Btw check The movie, it's pretty fun!
This past week I've been reading through the CoC investigator handbook, and I'm very excited to give the system a shot, be it in a one shot or something more long term.
I'm a 22 year old uni student from Sweden who loves to explore new ttrpg systems, and I have experience from a number of systems including D&D 5e, the Witcher ttrpg, Lancer and GURPS. I normally prefer to play on roll20 using Discord for voice communication, but I'm open to alternatives. Time-wise I prefer afternoon or night sessions, two to five hours apiece.
If you're interested, shoot me a message on here! Thanks.
Hi Everyone,
I'll be running a few CoC one-shots/adventures with the hopes of finding a group which I can run a long campaign with down the road.
No experience is necessary, Call of Cthulhu is an easy to learn system, so it should be easy to pick up.
I'm used to tweaking scenario's difficulties on the fly, but let me know how comfortable you are with character death/defeat so I can fine tune the adventures just for you.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Hi everyone I'm new to call of Cthulhu and would love to find a group to play with as I have fallen in love with the system. I'm not that good at role playing but I'm trying and I hope some of you would join me in a journey. If any of you feel the same just pm me hope hear from you.

Hey all, i'm gearing up to a run a game of Call of Cthulhu with Slenderman as the main antagonist, and i was wondering if any of you had any ideas of what i could use for pieces of handout evidence and clues, or even if you had any concepts i could use in said game.
Running a scenario tonight on Roll20 and discord, and have a few seats left! Set in modern times, but just as creepy! If you enjoy, you can join the campaign or just take advantage of this one shot! HMU for link!
So I'm trying to make some aspects of TMA/The Magnus Archives work within Call Of Cthulhu, I'm mainly trying to adapt the following:
TMA Entities to work like the evil gods already within Call Of Cthulhu
Some of the monsters of TMA to be able to be used as monsters within the game (avatars too)
Some of the jobs seen within TMA to be Occupations within the game
The Leitners to be Grimoires/tomes of lore (+Maybe make some new spells based off the Entities, also good with new ideas for Leitners)
And as a whole make new rules or other homebrew to make the game feel more TMAie, let me know if have any ideas! I hopefully will make a full thing of homebrew and share it when I'm done, even if I don't finish it in full I'll still be sure to share.
Any advice and tips are nice, even if not directly tied to adapting some tma, as overall I'm still pretty new to Call Of Cthulhu
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."
This quote talks about how our reason for sanity is because we know nothing as the human race, and if we delve too deep in arcane we will see the most horrifying things that will sap our view on reality, therefore we should be fearing what we don't know.
Whenever i notice or learn something, even if it's trivial, i remember this quote and feel discomfort. What makes H.P. Lovecraft's work horrifying is not the stories itself, but it's what they are trying to say. The statements like that paragraph i quoted terrifies me, because they are true. And there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do to prevent it. What H.P. Lovecraft shows us with his stories is that we live in a real-life horror story where the most unfathomable things lie beyond our reach, or maybe even in plain sight.
EDIT: The first time I read that paragraph about a month ago or so, and I found out that Lovecraft was severely mentally ill just now in this thread. But I really should have known, shouldn't I? Anyways, now that I'm looking at it again as i know about his mental state, that quote kind of just reflects his irrational fears that consume his mind even further rather than the reality. Though it is still pretty scary to read the work a man who lets his life be tattered over a threat that probably isn't even real.
Ironically, the combination of not knowing enough and lack of recklessnes is what encourages the fear of the unknown. H.P. Lovecraft refused to learn because he feared the unknown, and feared the unknown because he refused to learn. This paradox he was stuck in could be easily avoided by some bravery and no one should do the same mistake he did.
Thanks for the responses, everyone! I have learned valueable things from this thread!
So i keep coc for some of my friends. I'm still a pretty inexperienced keeper, but we have had a lot of fun, besides this certain things. I told my players in the beginning of the game that their characters aren't the standard hero's, that they are mortal and should run from danger, and fighting wouldn't be advised.
No my players haven't listened to this, and usually end each scenario on the brink of both death and a mental breakdown, and in most of theses situation they should have died, but i fudged the dice. Both i and the players like the character to much, and don't want them to die, but they all believe that they are invincible, wich they technically are, but I don't want to kill their characters because the players are new to this and I like their characters to much. I know that me always keeping them alive only teaches them that they are immortal.
Now my idea is to just tell them that i have kept them alive and that they actually should have died in many cases. But that i won't do that anymore, and that i would let them die, when they idk try to fight the horrible creature that has laid waist to a small village. Yes that happened. And then actually keep that, yes that death might hurt, but I don't know how to do it in any other way. But I also don't want to kill them, but in almost all cases they should have died, because they thought they were immortal.
Help?
Also yes, I'm very aware that I brought this problem onto myself, but I still wanna do what I can to fix it.
(Also English is not my first language, if i didn't make that obvious)
Hi Everyone,
I am running the classic a Call of Cthulu scenario, the THE CRACKβD AND CROOKβD MANSE in the Manssions of Madness book for 7e. The synopsis of the scenario is as follows:
Long considered to be a cursed place by the folk of Gamwell, it seems the
Fitzgerald Manse has fifinally escaped its sordid past. But, no oneβs seen the
new owner, Arthur Cornthwaite, for quite some time. Is history repeating
itself?
It's a fairly classic haunted house scenario with a nice little twist. Call of Cthulhu is one of the greatest investigative horror systems out there, and is super easy to pick up and learn. For this one shot you may use a pregen (there are dozens) or make your own character. New players are more than welcome! This will be done on roll20 with combination of discord voice. If interested, apply below:
I will select players in the next few days. I look forward to meeting y'all!
