A list of puns related to "Buffalo Public Schools"
I bet they announce it next week. Spread is too high, not enough teachers.
Covid and our shitty education system collide. Discuss below.
Edit: emergency board meeting today.
This might be a long shot, but is anyone familiar with the maternity leave policy for Buffalo Public School Teachers? My wife is due during the summer, so fortunately, she'll get some time off with the baby before school starts in the Fall, but she was hoping to take longer than the standard 6 weeks for a vaginal birth. She has 10+ weeks of accrued sick time, and contributes to the "sick bank" but we're being told that she cannot use that unless she has a doctor's note indicating that she is medically unable to return to work when school starts up again in the Fall.
We've tried reaching out to HR and union reps and they explained that our only other option is to take FMLA which is not only unpaid, but would also require us to pay the full price of our health insurance.
We're lucky that we're having the baby during the summer, and my wife can spend time with the baby before school starts back up, but it seems like such a shame that the has tons of accrued sick time but she's not able to use any of it. (I guess that's why they call it 'sick' time?)
Is anyone familiar with the policy? Is there something we're missing?
Hi all. I recently got past the second round of interviews for a position in the facilities department at the Buffalo Public Schools and was asked to complete and sign a background check authorization. I was wondering if anyone had been through this process with the schools before, what they are specifically looking for and how long the process took. I don't have any HUGE red flags in my past, but hey, none of us are perfect...
I've been employed by the City of Buffalo in the past (well, BURA) and didn't have to go through anything like this.
Edit: No criminal record, but an arrest (not charged) and some bad, stupid debt. Not sure how much that affects thing. It has cost me job offers from the federal government before that required clearance.

Hello! I am trying gather some consumer survey results for a high school project I am doing about fried buffalo chicken. If you could take 3 minutes to take my survey, I would really appreciate it!
Have a great day!
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 77%. (I'm a bot)
> It's taken a while, but Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz's plan to bring high-speed internet to all parts of the county is starting to gain traction once again.
> The Erie County Legislature recently approved plans to establish a new, county-controlled corporation to oversee and manage the creation of ErieNet, an ambitious county-sponsored fiber-optic network that could give all cities, towns and interested internet service providers unparalleled access to up to 500 miles of untapped fiber-optic lines.
> Initially, Poloncarz said the county would lay roughly 360 miles of fiber-optic lines that would then be leased to public and private entities.
> This would make Erie County one of the largest municipalities in the country to operate this type of backbone network, which could be leased by private internet service providers, individual companies, public institutions and local governments.
> Officials from the County Legislature, the library system, the county budget office and the information technology and planning departments would serve as initial members, but the board would grow as stakeholders sign on to use the network, county officials and consultants said.
> The Legislature voted 7-4, along party lines, to support the creation of the new corporate entity, with the Republican-supported minority - which has long advocated for more rural access to broadband - objecting to the creation of a new layer of county bureaucracy before more concrete details are shared about where fiber lines will be laid.
