RANKING BASICALLY ALL OF THE MARVEL SUPERHERO FILMS (UP TO INFINITY WAR) FROM WORST TO BEST
After spending literal weeks upon weeks watching my way through the (pre-Captain-Marvel) Marvel movie catalog (yes, I do mean ALL of it, not counting maybe a few TV movies here and there), Iβve decided that itβs officially time for the obligatory pointless list that orders them from worst to best in my very own personal opinion which is of absolutely no consequence at all.
That being said, Iβll try not to ridiculously exaggerate my thoughts on these films like a lot of other critics do, or to go into too much detail on any one specific film, but despite how completely outdated it is, I WILL be using a 1-10 scale here. Also, look out for spoiler material as well.
(NOTE: the non-huge animated Marvel films will not be counted here; to save space and time, only the relatively important things to mention will be mentioned here)
(PS: No Big Hero 6 either, sadly; might cover it later)
SCANDALOUS TIER [1-3 out of 10]:
Fantastic Four [Unreleased] (1994) - Repeating many of the same problems that Captain America 1990 also had, here we have yet another movie in which the origin stories behind the main characters are horridly butchered, the special effects look to be easily at least two entire decades behind their time, the heroes barely even do anything whatsoever, the main villain is made into a laughable comic-relief joke, and the costumes are considerably worse than quite a few actual Halloween ones out there. Needless to say, digging this one out of the Internetβs streaming-site backlog in actually somewhat tolerable visual quality was most certainly not worth the amount of effort required in order to do it [1/10]
Captain America (1990) - Oh sweet Lord, where do I even begin with this one? Luckily, the First Avenger remake of this film from roughly 21 years later fixed most of its problems, but that still doesnβt excuse this filmβs existence by any stretch of the imagination. In addition to all of the issues that were already mentioned above in the Fantastic 1994 section, this film also makes the truly and undeniably facepalm-inducing continuity error of getting Red Skullβs entire nationality completely wrong (by making him Italian rather than actually German like heβs supposed to be), in addition to making the Captainβs main superpower car-stealing and overusing jump cuts to the point where it makes quite a few moments from the actio
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm not sure if this is a popular opinion, but I've been thinking a lot about Big Hero 6 lately. It's the first film I've seen from Pixar since the last one, and while I didn't like it, I felt as if the new Pixar has improved.
I recently watched both Zootopia and Inside Out, but I've been really craving something lighter at the moment. I don't know if there's an obvious contender, but it doesn't seem that far off to me.
While I loved the film, I don't understand why some people are so upset. I mean, it's a great film. It's a good movie. It has a lot of heart. But, I also felt as if it was very "childish" at times. Like, yeah, it's fun to watch, but I feel that it can be a problem at times.
I also just remember the music choices, even though I don't know the full lyrics. I know they were done in a different style, but it felt a bit like that music was being used for a different purpose than intended. The main theme for me, and the one that I thought would fit so well, was the theme from The Lion King.
I've heard the main theme song is in the credits, and so I feel like it was used out of a desire to make it feel more "grown up". Like, what's the point of having a theme song if you're using it in the middle of all the childlike fun.
I understand that it's a kids movie, and so they made it very kid friendly. But I just wanted to get a glimpse into why people don't like it.
Victory conditions are incapacitation or surrender. In-character, standard equipment.
This is a bloodmatch, so answers must be in the form of a story.

Hi all, I imagine this question has been asked many a time, but I genuinely couldn't find it after searching "movies like frozen" in the search bar.
Anyway, I'm really into animated films right now, especially Disney (who isn't), and would love some more films to watch! I've watched the ones mentioned in the title in the past week, so obviously don't include those in your response.
Thanks all!
Hi all,
I run a podcast called The Electric Image Express, a podcast examining Asian American identity primarily by revisiting influential Asian and Asian-American cinema.
My friend Steph is an animation industry insider having worked at Dreamworks and now building Netflix's animation studio.
We discussed Big Hero 6 in one of my latest episodes. We start by sharing how it felt to just see Asian American protagonists exist naturally in a story that is not explicitly about their ethnicity or culture (9:55). We then debate whether it matters if a well-researched movie that feels genuinely inclusive is not made by any creative leads of the relevant minority (15:46). Later, Steph gives her expert take on the state of Asian American representation in animation today. (24:15) before giving us a fascinating lesson on the subtle challenges facing animation artists in accurately and respectfully portraying different ethnicities. (35:15).
I hope you'll give it a listen and maybe you'll learn something new about the animation industry, Big Hero 6, or even Asian American identity as it appears in films!
It's a hodge-podge of various anime and Japanese cliches written as a Marvel comic.
For one, the protagonist's name is "Hiro Takachiho". I can't find any source that "Takachiho" is a real Japanese surname, which is likely why the Disney film renamed him "Hamada".
And yes Grave of the Fireflies is amazing but a bit heavy for their age. It haunted my childhood. We will wait a few years on that one. Any others?
In Big Hero 6, The main city the film takes place san Frantokyo, some weaboo mix of San Francisco and Tokyo.
Lets assume that this was not always true. Perhaps San Frantokyo was founded in the Big Hero 6 universe as San Francisco.
What would this mean? well, lets go back a bit.
Perhaps this is a universe with an abnormally large injection of Japanese culture into the West Coast of the united states.
But how would this be warranted? What causes this mass injection of culture?
Well I think this is where the fun begins.
We know that in the real world, there is no way for a sudden mass influx of foreign cultures unless it is a small community. But what if we were to assume that this influx of culture comes from a mass migration stemming from something that happened years before the Film? Perhaps a greater conflict started the transformation of San Francisco into San Frantokyo.
What does this mean.
What this could hint at, is that Big Hero 6 takes place a universe in which the Empire of Japan defeats the United States in WWII, resulting in the annexation of the west coast and importation of culture from Japan.
But wait, there is an even bigger web to spin.
Japan was in the Axis, so if Japan won, then a shared victory is possible. This could mean Germany won as well. And with San Francisco being turned into San Frantokyo, then a parallel could be drawn to say that perhaps New York, a city of near equal importance, would be under German occupation as, perhaps, Neue York or Neue Yorlin, a mix of New York and Berlin.
BUT THERES EVEN MORE.
This also means that the United States is split between the two, in a scenario much similar to Man in the High Castle from Amazon Prime.
THEREFORE
Big Hero 6, a film depicting "superheros" in a American-Japanese hybrid America, could hypothetically be set in the Man in the High Castle universe.
The Nazis have won.
