Sulphur Springs and the first railroad station outside of downtown STL
Did you know that the area around Hampton and Manchester once boasted a sulfur spring that was so beloved, it was the site of one of the first settlements outside of the city itself, and because of its popularity, was the site of the very first railroad station/terminus west of the Mississippi? In my latest bit of research, I dug into this history a bit more.

Mount Royal Station, Baltimore, 1902 was the B&O Railroad's third train station in Baltimore at the north end of the Baltimore Belt Line's Howard Street tunnel. It was the first station in the world to have electrified passenger trains when it opened in 1896, serving the B&O's famed Royal Blue line.

Best location for railroads and train stations?
So near where I live in New Jersey there is a rail line being planned that would connect Rowan University to Camden with stops along the way. One of the main arguments Iβve seen from residents of Pitman (a town the east referenced in the video Suburbs that donβt Suck - Streetcar Suburbs) is that the line would run directly through the center of town, with trains departing from the station every 15 minutes and crossover every 7.5 minutes. I feel as though this is a valid argument for the same reason it would be valid to not want a 40 mph stroad built right in the middle of a livable suburb. I also know that moving the station outside of walking distance would make it far less practical, as is explained in The Trains that Subsidize the Suburbs. Does anyone know of any more resources that explain the best place for both rail lines and their stops?
