TLDR: The conversation of who paved the way is important, but for now we can’t say BTS paved the way just because of their accolades. We need to wait to see what comes after. As a comparison, a company like Amazon though they have many accolades has not paved the way for ecommerce. Apple on the other hand has paved the way for iphones. Tesla however, like BTS, has not paved the way yet, since they can end up as a company that limits electric cars by being the only ones make them, OR end up as a company that paved the way for all cars to be electric.

When we think of who paved the way for KPOP, there are a number of artists and groups we think about. Some people argue their groups solely paved the way(which is always false), others argue that all groups paved the way somehow. Some say none of it matters.

However, it is important to know which groups paved the way and HOW exactly they did it.

Some point to accolades to argue for their group. But this simply doesn’t make sense. Sure you can brag about album sales, billbord rankings, and revenue but none of that correlates with whether or not they paved the way. For example, think of big corporations. Do people say Amazon paved the way for online commerce? How would you defend that point, by showing Jeff Bezos’s net worth? Simply no, because Amazon isn’t paving the way, they’re building train tracks that only they can ride on. They aren’t paving the way for online commerce, they’re making sure no one else can dominate.

On the other hand, look at Apple. You can easily argue that they paved the way for smartphones. Look at iphone sales in 2008 and look at how other companies have sold their own smartphones shortly thereafter. And yes Apple owns the whole marketshare but they open the doors for technology to evolve into what its become.

Is Tesla like Amazon or like Apple in terms of not paving the way vs paving the way? Well its too soon to tell right?

Now back to KPOP. Think of a group you say has paved the way.

Okay fine BTS, for the sake of example. If you want to argue that BTS paved the way why would you bring up accolades such as views, album sales, being the first to accomplish____, or their revenue. Okay sure you can use that as evidence but you need to go further and show that the rest of industry has succeeded due to what BTS has done. You can easily substantiate this, yet people choose to blandly bring up accolades then stop there.

Apparently BTS was the ONLY group from 2013 to survive which sounds crazy to me. You can see all the groups from 2012 and 2014 that debuted and found success, but BTS is the only group from 2013.

so ive recently been listening to bts and honestly, really enjoying their music. tbh i probably wouldn’t call myself a fan of kpop in general, like i know and like a few songs from other bands but honestly it’s only bts’ music that’s really grabbed me. i know the broad strokes of what the kpop industry is like from witnessing kpop fandom second hand on tumblr and twitter etc or posts in r/hobbydrama for years (eg how the industry works, a rough history of the genre, the horror stories, the big scandals, etc etc) and i think i’ve got a good grasp on bts’ history and how they operate.

my question is; is bts really that different from other kpop groups? hardcore armys will always yell about how different and special bts are, like oh the topics they sing about, they write their own lyrics, they self produce, they’re from a small label, they started as ‘real’ hip hop etc etc. but i’d like almost a casual or non-fans perspective. i really do feel that bts are different from what i’ve always seen as kpop, i like their sound and style and message when i’ve never really liked other kpop bands. from watching interviews and vlives, especially with rm and suga, i think they’re genuinely very talented artists and they’re making really good art.

they don’t seem to want to participate in the spectacle of kpop much, like i’ve seen them at awards shows and the difference in how they conduct themselves compared to other bands is kind of noticeable, or the way they don’t go in for the whole variety show thing. but is that really that unusual in the kpop industry? i don’t really know a lot about other bands so i guess i’d like a bit of perspective. for the record it doesn’t bother me at all if bts aren’t unusual or ‘authentic’ in this respect lol, i like listening to them and i dont really mind if it’s ‘manufactured’ or marketed, i guess i’d just like a balanced opinion from people who know more about the industry than i do.

I swear I can't deal with some kpop fans when it comes to BTS.

Why do some of you guys seem to judge EVERYTHING based on a title track, as if there isn't a whole album sitting here in confusion. There is more to judge than just a title track, it doesn't defy a group's whole discography. If you are going to talk shit and speak your opinions like facts, at least listen to all the group's songs. Hearing people call Ateez, and Stray Kid's noise music is so annoying, especially when they haven't taken the time to listen to their albums as a whole. You can't just assume all their music is 'noise' when you haven't listen to anything other than ONE freaking song. You don't have to listen to all of their songs, but don't go associating their music with 'noise'

Back to BTS, ever since DNA people have been saying how their music have been westernized (cue eyeroll) They are saying that based on one song. A year before that they released wings, with songs I don't know how they can be considered 'westernized'. We had Awake, Stigma, Lie, Begin, Mama and etc. Heck we had 2!3 and boy meets evil. Then next year they released a repackaged album with the same songs alongside with some new songs. A few months later DNA came out, and suddenly everything about them is westernized. We had bsides like serendipity, pied piper, and outro:her, how was this era 'westernized' when they didn't expect to blow up like that. Then May of next year they released Fake Love, call that westernize or whatever. BUT explain b-sides like tear, singularity, truth untold, magic shop. Five freaking months later, we get idol with euphoria, epiphany, and we had seesaw for goodness sake. At this point, you get the point. LAST YEAR, we had b-sides like my time, shadow, respect, ugh and so much more.

Not even long after we get dynamite, ONE ENGLISH SONG, and to everyone that happen to be in the studio with them, they suddenly lost their passion for music. After that we had BE, with a more chill title track, and b-sides like blue and gray, disease, and telepathy. So they lost their passion, based on two english pop songs you heard. I can not with you guys. Do you guys even bother reading the lyrics at this point. This is such an annoying topic, but that is just my take.

yeah i'm aware that what goes on behind the scenes and what's seen on camera is different. idols are probaly really close together. but as a fan it's really hard to see and belive that, you know? especially when they're from different companies and aren't really seen interacting as much. a big example of this, off the top of my head, is probably bts and exo. i'm a pandemic army, and i'm also having a growing interest on exo. i was scrolling through youtube and i found this clip of namjoon and suho talking about the burdens of being a leader. and i'm shocked??? mainly because i never knew those clips existed. but also because namjoon and suho talk like they're two parents complaining about their kids😂 seriously tho, i really love seeing interactions like those, especially between two legendary! groups. there's also moments between kai and jimin, especially during award shows where they look like they're two best friends gossiping about shit😂 this compilation is cute. another bts and exo moment i could think of is jungkook being extra and dancing to monster😂 anyway idk i just felt like i had to post this because the fandoms are constantly on each other's necks 99.9% of the time, while i'm pretty sure bts and exo are great friends. and they're both legendary within their own rights. how abt yall? any groups/fandoms in the same situation where their fans are fighting most of the time and the groups are probably just really chill with each other?😂 idk i just feel like this has to be discussed from time to time because fanwars can get pretty exhausting.

As the title says, I'm looking for an aftermarket trigger group for my BT APC9Pro and I'm fairly sure that the Triggertech AR9 Adaptable trigger group will work but I wanted to ask the question before I commit to buying. Does anyone have any experience with this set up or have a view on whether they are compatible? I understand that I will / may need to buy 16mm screws rather than the 10mm screws that are supplied.

I'm not based in the US and where I live, I will need to mail-order the trigger group without the possibility of returning if it's incorrect.

so skz just released another skz player a few hours ago called ‘오늘 밤 나는 불을 켜’ (directly translates to ‘tonight i turn on the light(s)), which they teased in their little three part reality show thing that ended a few weeks ago.

and yeah yeah i know the point of these is to allow the members of any group really to share music with us without having to go through the full production process. and i respect and love that, i really do. it 100% is better to be able to have them like this than not have them at all.

but damn, sometimes all i want is to jam out to ddaeng without having to go to youtube or soundcloud. or bop to maknae on top when i’m on a roadtrip with no service.

so i’ve been stanning only bts for 4 years and i’ve been trying to get into other groups throughout those years but i never find myself staying interested in them. what groups (specifically girl groups, i don’t really like any other boy groups music aside from maybe txt & shinee) would you recommend me to stan, and what are some easy resources i can use to stan them? (if they have any reality shows or things like that) also if you have a good music playlist/recommendation for that group please drop that too because i obviously don’t wanna stan a group who’s music i don’t like. lastly, id perfer newer groups because they dont have as much content to keep up with but i’ll keep an open mind to anyone you suggest.

For me, realizing how much I love BTS shocked me more than anything. I was never very into k-pop or celebrities, in general. Sure, I had favorite songs or favorite singers but I was mostly a casual fan who just listened to a few songs here and there.

With BTS, I’m finding myself buying albums, photo books, DVDs, digital content, following their accounts for news, etc. It might not sound like much but before BTS, I had not bought a single CD/DVD/music in over 10 years and I did not own any celebrity related items.

At first, I thought I thought I had discovered a love for k-pop but I soon realized that I’m not interested in any other k-pop group except for BTS. Out of curiosity I used to check out some groups thinking I might enjoy them as much as BTS but realized I wasn’t really into other k-pop music. I’ve heard that there are a lot of ARMY who are in the same boat and wanted to hear what your experiences were like and also, why BTS?

Instead of panicking like the undisciplined and unruly mob the institutions and media think we are, why don't we just open a tab and fucking google what UMG has to offer, and then wait on the official terms of the deal from Ackman and his team.

The last time a no bts bg was no1 in digital was March 2018 with big bang's flower road. The last time a SM bg was no1 in digital was July 2017 with exo's ko ko bop

They also got a 4crown with digital, downloads, bgm & album. What a successful comeback for them.

They have also secured the biggest debut for a boy group in digital for this year, the only rival they could have for this is exo's comeback. (Bts has like 2.5 days of tracking instead of a full week, so it's kinda impossible for them to snatch this)

Still I'm wondering who will be the bg (that isn't bts) that tops the streaming chart as well.

Hi, just random thoughts but i’m really curious. I think everyone knows that top 2 groups are bts and blackpink, but who is the 3rd? Is it twice/exo/nct/seventeen?

I don’t know if this is unpopular but BTS in the earlier years weren’t very balanced as a group. Some of the members were worked too hard and the some weren’t utilised enough. Jimin in my opinion seems to be the one that had the perfect work load. Rm and Suga seemed to have a lot of pressure when it came to writing and composing of songs. ik they like doing it but Suga talks about how much pressure he has about it. So does rm in bonvoyage. Jungkook was extremely overworked in the performance aspect . IMO jungkook shouldn’t be the center not because he doesn’t do a good job but because it is too much pressure. Burn the stage shows how much strain that causes him. I think jhope or even v should have been the center. jhope does work a lot on songs where I feel he is under-utilised is in the performance .he according to me should be given more time to shine as he according to me is the best performer and deserves more center time in dance breaks and it seems to be getting shorter each day. Yes Jin ik isn’t the best dancer but there are plenty of songs where bts Dosent do choreography but he still seems to have the least lines. I hardly felt his presence in the be album. Also if u aren’t given a chance to improve and are just kept in the back cause u are a lil weak u aren’t going to improve either. V nowadays seems to be getting good amount of lines and has been working on music as well and I am happy about that so I am not gonna complain. Bighit could have done a better job at assigning roles even if they had weak spots .

On the other hand txt seems well balanced . Giving the center to beomgyu was a good decision even though yeonjun is the allrounder and taehyun is the best singer and I think the second best dancer. Soobin being the leader helps keeping the group balanced. No one seems to be over worked.
