A list of puns related to "Atomism (social)"
I don't know much about philosophy so please forgive me if I phrased that wrong, but I was just wondering what thoughts occured for Democritus to conclude that things were made up of 'atoms'. If you know nothing about the existence of these tiny particles that make up almost everything, how do you even think about that idea?
Has modern capitalism left us with so little means to differentiate between individuals that deriving value from identity became easier than deriving value from work or recreation?

For I have come across the following description of a philosophy seminar:
> Atomism is one the most influential and most vehemently debated conceptions in the history of philosophy and science. Already among the Presocratic philosophers in the fifth century BC, we find conceptions of indivisible particles as the ultimate constituents of corporeal reality (hence the Greek term βatom,β meaning βindivisibleβ). Also Platoβs Timaeus features an intriguing version of (geometric) atomism β and even Aristotelians, otherwise strong opponents of any form of atomism, developed the theory of minimal particles (so-called minima naturalia).
Could it be that hylomorphism, as Bernard Williams says, "is only a polite form of materialism" (Bernard Williams - The Sense of the Past)?

They know that we respect what we fear, admiring it in a way. We give it space, we examine it, we determine what we can get away with in it's presence, we listen to it when it communicates. We worshiped tigers/lions/snakes/spiders/warlords. We admire the strength and savagery of the great apes, and we respect their peaceful moments.
The creatures that do not put up a horrifying fight or have the ability to, we enslave and eat en-masse if convenient. We have a whole week on television dedicated to sharks. Killer whales, etc. Something with a violent nature makes us stop and think. Something too peaceful, we want to domesticate and abuse. I'm not saying this as it applies to people individually, but in a way it does. We go about our days peacefully, practicing yoga, going for a jog, hugging our kids and watching TV, all the while there are factories with terrified animals, slaughtered, processed, and then thrown away when it spoils. We don't do this to lions, because we respect them, the logistics are too difficult and to dangerous. They put up a fight and they scare us with their presence.
We constantly admire and study the most profilic warring civilizations of our past. The ones who raided the best, were the best fighters, had the most stolen wealth to build the biggest enslaved cities. We amire any fraction of human rights that they dribbled out for their mostly disadvanged citizen. We marvel at their massive monuments built by slaves and the "low class."
We simultaneously hate and want a strong leadership, a government that can protect us. Americans despise and cherish their prolific military strength.
As simple as this might seem, and I feel like I sound as if I'm missing the point, I think this is why the Aliens allow us to feel our true fear of them at times. They need us to know how we see them without their re-assurance. We need to fear them and respect them because it is in our nature to listen to what we fear and our species is barreling towards self-destruction. We have the weapons and industry to annihilate ourselves if our immaturity flares in the face of system collapse. Like when you are chastising a child for playing with an unsecured gun, they need to understand just how serious the future could have been for them if you didn't stop them from pulling the trigger. Children often do not respect adults who are too nice, I'm sure you know parents who were lied to and mistreated by their kids, substitute teachers who the chi
