Suggestion for the podcast: I would like the wizards to discuss The Assassination of Julius Caesar: A People's History of Ancient Rome, by Michael Parenti.
It's a brilliant and mindblowing book. Michael Parenti revises the historical accounts of the assassination of Julius Caesar. Even though it is discussing Ancient Rome, Parenti's ideas will make you look differently at the world today. At the very least you will grow more skeptical and start to see some of the biases ancient (and even more contemporary) historians had.
Parenti asks the simple question: what did Caesar stand for that made the group of extremely wealthy men who ran the Roman world want to kill him? The answer is that he wanted to institute a series of mild reforms that shifted a little bit, but not too much, wealth, land, property, food, housing, tax burden from the tiny number of very rich people to the much larger numbers of urban and rural poor.
In this desire, Caesar stood in the tradition of populares who had gone before him such as the Gracchi brothers. The Gracchi and all the other populares had been murdered for their efforts.
This small redistribution of wealth was too much for the optimates - the small group of wealthy aristocrats. And so they tried to undermine Caesar. And when they failed to undermine him, they murdered him.

What if famous historical figures who were killed (Julius Caesar, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lennon), were never assassinated, either as a result of failed assassination attempts, or never occurred?

Giaus Julius Caesar had two living nephews at the time of his assassination, so why did he choose the younger great nephew as his son and heir?
I am currently reading Augustus by Adrian Goldsworthy and in one of the early chapters he briefly mentions Julius Caesar having two nephews from his older sister Julia Major, named Quintus Pedius and Lucius Pinarius, with Pedius actually serving under him during his campaign in Gaul. Yet at the time of his death, Caesar has named in his will that his great nephew from Julia Minors daughter will be his heir. A boy that he hardly spent time with throughout the years of civil strife. What are some theories that scholars have come up with to conclude why Julius Caesar had made this decision? We all know what became of Gaius Octavius, but what of his two older nephews?

Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of aristocrats living in their luxurious bubble who failed to comprehend how popular he was with the masses and poorly anticipated what was going to happen next. What are other such examples throughout history?
Iβll elaborate a bit more in case the question is not as clear as I wish it to be.
When Brutus, Cassius and co killed Julius Caesar, they thought they had done the Republic a favor. Calling themselves βLiberatoresβ or stating the famous line βSic semper tyrannisβ, they genuinely thought they had done the best thing ever.
It clearly was not the best thing ever as what subsequently happened seems to show the only people Caesar had actually pissed off were essentially these 20 or so senators who participated in the killing. Saying the people werenβt happy would be an understatement.
Most importantly, they poorly planned what was gonna happen after the assassination leaving the Republic in a state of civil war for basically the next 15 years, ultimately leading to its demise.
Aurelian or Pertinax are notable examples from Ancient Rome where the post-assassination was just incompetently anticipated but those were from soldiers (Praetorian Guard) not aristocrats with standards of living way beyond their contemporary everyday citizens.
I am therefore wondering what are your βfavoriteβ other instances throughout history where rich/noble perpetrators of a regicide completely failed to see beyond their selfish interests and simultaneously triggering a chain of events of such massive proportions.

[IIL] Dramatic synth-pop with metal influences such as Ulver's The Assassination of Julius Caesar and Mortiis' The Smell of Rain, WEWIL?
Looking for that overly-dramatic synth pop sound. So far i've only found Ulver and Mortiis's newer pop albums that really fit this style. Interestingly, both artists started in black metal, so I think that has influenced their sound.

How would the course of Romeβs history have changed if Julius Caesar survived or thwarted his assassination attempt?
How much longer would have Rome lasted?
Would his longevity as dictator have prevented the long line of emperors who came after him from ever having an office to fill?
(specifically referencing the fact that Caesar Augustus only had a chance to become Caesar because of the chaos that ensued after Julius Caesarβs death)
How would the modern world be different?
