Aosta Valley Puns

Torrette Supérieur - is not another native Valdostan grape variety, but the name of the local wine sub-zone in the Aosta valley. It is located just around the city of Aosta in the central location of the Valley. 2019 "Torrette Supérieur" by Elio Ottin is a fantastic blend of local aostan varieties: 80% Petit Rouge, 10% Cornalin and 10% Fumin. The vineyards are located at the altitude of 650 - 700 m with a southern aspect. The wine is spontaneously fermented on wild yeasts and undergoes 12 months of maturation in 20 hl Austrian oak foudres.

The wine opens with intense aromas of blueberries, black cherry, strawberry compote and noticeable notes coming from malolactic fermentation, like yoghurt or buttermilk. Very interesting wine, full of the perfume of juniper berries, alpine moss and fantastic peppery sensation on the finish. A beautiful example of the Aostan subzone of Torrette.

Just in case anyone is interested, a year ago or so I made a map of my own region which got some hundreds of downloads. Since then my abilities with map-making have substantially improved, so I reworked the original map, which you can now find attached.

It doesn't happen that often that the alpine areas are represented in the game, which is mostly oriented towards eastern europe or famous landmarks. I also tend to take a somewhat realistic approach, attempting to closely match the population distribution, urban mapping and geography of the actual region.
