I had to share my latest read and my first comedy! I enjoyed this even more than I thought I would. It really humanized the Ancient Greeks for me to hear all their dirty jokes. It was a great balance against all the serious lit and philosophy from them Iβve read.

The ancient Greek comedy "The Knights" sees a lowly sausage seller becoming a powerful political figure in a battle of belligerence and shamelessness. It was a satire written by Aristophanes to get public revenge on someone who had accused him of wronging the population with an earlier play.

Ancient greek comedies featured gods. Did it offend anyone?
I only remember an example of Dionysus written by Aristophanes and it's a god who probably wouldn't mind to be laughed at. But there must have been others. Do we know anything about playwriters being punished for lack of respect of gods?

Dramas often have higher prestige than comedies in modern performing arts. Did the ancient Greeks feel the same way about their tragedies and comedies?
This is obviously based on personal preferences and opinions, but many people nowadays seem to think of dramas as more high-class, more respectable, whereas comedy is, for lack of a better word, lower class. I've also read about similar feelings with regards to "low" comedy in other eras (Vaudeville and Venetian street comedies come to mind). Did the ancient Greeks feel the same about their tragedies and comedies?

Could you guys recommend me books that were written in the style of ancient Greek/Norse myths, with cruel, often rather self-centered and petty gods meddling in the affairs of humans who are very flawed/tragic characters themselves?
A brooding/melancholy tone would be preferred though it's not necessary, the scale isn't really important to me (the story could be very personal or could involve world-ending stakes, I'd be fine with it either way).

What would be the Indian equivalent of the core Ancient Greek myths?
So I know that a lot of western literature can be traced back to story structures used in Ancient Greek mythology. Pandora's box, Icarus, and the Odyssey, are just a few of the big ones. So if you take this and apply it to Indian mythology/classical literature, what would be the main stories? I've heard of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, but those are pretty long and as far as I know don't have a specific story structure (maybe i'm wrong I haven't read them).
This would be really interesting since i'm currently a high school freshman and learned about ancient story structures, and I think hearing a non-western take on it would be really interesting.
