This moth from the genus Phalera looks like a fragment of twig complete with chipped bark and even the layering of wood tissue at the β€œcut” ends... perfectly resembling a broken piece of wood to avoid predation.

I have the attention span of an Amoeba

Sometimes I think I am just dumb and don't understand a topic but I am almost certain it is my phone use. I try putting it on do not disturb mode but I end up checking my phone even more lol. I noticed that when I sit down for at least 15-20 minutes without looking at my phone I actually get a lot done especially in memorizing a topic. I just recently got in a relationship 4 months ago and I feel like if I do not give her enough attention things will go bad even though she is understanding most of the time. I literally cannot step away from my phone most of the time it is so hard and is making my studying harder. Sometimes I won't be using my phone but I will get bored studying and I just end up in this rabbit hole googling random facts.... I am pretty sure I have ADHD but I never wanted to take medication for it because I am scared of ending up being dependent on it but It is very hard for me to sit still most of the time. Anyone got any advice on this? I am doing fairly well in medical school given the circumstances but I can imagine how much more I could get done if I did not have this problem.

Proposing that Thai Spikies belong to the genus Parakermania

Tl;dr at the bottom

If I made any mistakes or you have something else to add, please let me know :)

Thailand spikies have been in the trade for quite some time now. In the beginning they were sometimes labeled as Cubaris, which is wrong for rather obvious reasons. Because of that it's usually labeled without a genus.

I am pretty sure that they are closely related to already described Parakermania species. It's possible that "Fancy Gator" also belongs to this genus, but I couldn't verify it since I don't have these and good pics are rare.

I checked all the features that are characteristic for Parakermania according to Kwon&Taiti (1993). (Side note: the genus was errected by Vandel, but he failed to give a proper genus description. However Kwon&Taiti did that, verifying it with Vandels specimens)

In the following i will go through all the characteristics. For better understanding, I will also provide a few pictures.

β€’Able to roll up into a perfect ball: They can but rarely do, unless they feel threatened. Big surprise.

β€’dorsum with distinct tubercles: Pretty obvious, that's where their name comes from

β€’epimera of pereonites and pleonites curved outwards, pereonites 2-7 with triangular epimera: also pretty obvious

https://preview.redd.it/0hcidqhchx981.jpg?width=1672&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db9d0c8a59ea9e0c7139235a2399f8cfe77e9bfa

β€’cephalon with frontal shield slightly protruding over vertex; antenna short and stout: while the antennae are not as short and stout as in P. maculata, they are still quite short in relation to other isopods.

https://preview.redd.it/nnadol4ehx981.jpg?width=1411&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4f519a5d659fb97e7a086d8083848fdd8050a38

β€’pereonite 1 with a small ventral lobe; pereonite 2 with a large ventral tooth: probably the most important feature, since this is often used to define a genus.

https://preview.redd.it/701oeolfhx981.jpg?width=1294&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fec4d30bf80e62914f91762fb8108b28a428002

β€’telson with quadrangular distal part: this one is a bit weirder shaped in Thai Spikies, but the general shape is very similar. Comparing the shape, one could be easily derived from the other. (Figure is P. maculata)

https://preview.redd.it/pon0147lhx981.jpg?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=658916def14df0c29c6d8f0d6e0adb3185106639

β€’Uropodal exopod short, insterted dorsally on protopod: a bit blurry, but obviously very small.
