A list of puns related to "American Civil Liberties Union"
"Nancy Gbana Abudu, the deputy legal director at SPLC, was picked by Biden in December to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. The 11th Circuit covers parts of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. The vacancy came about upon the retirement of Judge Beverly B. Martin β a President Barack Obama appointee.Β ...
In a 2011 interview dug up by The Daily Wire, Abudu asserted that β95 percentβ of her work with the ACLU at the time involved βvoting rights.β She notably said βphoto IDβ and βproof of citizenship,β two long-established requirements to vote, are indicative of βvoter suppression:β
>Obviously, we do a lot when it comes to voter suppression, which includes five priority areas: photo ID, proof of citizenship, restrictions we see when it comes to registration β¦ early voting as well as absentee voting and the restrictions we see when it comes to criminal convictions. We also do a lot with student voting.
Abudu said her βbiggest concernβ as an ACLU attorney βregarding voter suppressionβ was states βpassing laws requiring voters to have photo IDs.β She slammed South Carolina for not permitting students to show campus IDs to vote, calling it βrestrictive.βΒ "

Opinion: If showing ID or citizenship proof to vote is voter suppression, then showing your social security card is job suppression. If I have to show my social security card to work, and the government thinks that is ok, then voting which is our sacrosanct, inviolable right connected to a republican democracy should reasonably allow as much if not more.
Pretty much the title. I know other countries have social workers and must have organizations focused on civil liberties and protections, but I can't seem to google them without getting the ACLU. Does their equivalent exist in other countries?
From a quick search-
>WILL YOU FIGHT FOR CIVIL RIGHTS?
>We need you to take action today to defend civil rights.
>Protestorsβ rights, immigrantsβ rights, voting rights, and more are under intense threat. We wonβt let the Trump administration, or any other government, get away with attacks on our civil rights.
>Speak up β dissent is patriotic. Add your name and join this movement today.
But then reaching the article in question-
>COVID-19 Pandemic Response Montage of White House, gloved hand holding swab, and hospital monitor. (I have no idea what this is, I just copy and pasted!) >Ensuring βWe the Peopleβ Means All of Us
>As we all do our best to protect the health and well-being of family and friends in this unsettling time, the need for a government response "guided" by public health "experts" has become more urgent than ever. In this and all times of crisis, it is critical that βWe The Peopleβ truly means all of us.
>The ACLU is "working" nationwide to ensure the burdens of the outbreak and the governmentβs actions do not unfairly fall on our most vulnerable communities. We are also monitoring the governmentβs responses to ensure they are rooted in science and public health needs, not stigma or bias, and no more intrusive on civil liberties than absolutely necessary.
Necessity is the bedfellow of Totalitarian Fascism. The ACLU stated this clearly before they were captured by the very antithetical of what they are supposed to stand against.

>PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS: THE NEED FOR A PUBLIC HEALTH β NOT A LAW ENFORCEMENT/NATIONAL SECURITY β APPROACH
>Government agencies have an essential role to play in helping to prevent and mitigate epidemics. Unfortunately, in recent years, our governmentβs approach to preparing the nation for a possible influenza pandemic has been highly misguided. Too often, policy makers are resorting to law enforcement and national security-oriented measures that not only suppress individual rights unnecessarily, but have proven to be ineffective in stopping the spread of disease and saving lives. The following report examines the relationship between civil liberties and public health in contemporary U.S. pandemic planning and makes a series of recommendations for developing a more effective, civil liberties-friendly approach.
