Some context: France and Australia agreed in 2016 to deliver 12 French-designed submarines to Australia to counter China's growing interests in the Indo-Pacific region. The contract represented a sum of 50 billion euros more or less.
Only a few days ago, the Australian government announced the cancellation of the contract with France in favor of American nuclear submarines. This turn of events created a diplomatic crisis with France, recalling some of their diplomats (which had never happened with the United States).
It is not so much the cancellation of the contract that is controversial in France, but the fact that 3 allies (the United Kingdom is also part of the new contract) have been negotiating behind France's back for years, which creates a feeling of lack of respect and trust. Moreover, a few weeks ago, the French and Australian governments jointly insisted on the necessity of the Franco-Australian partnership.
So I wanted to know for the people of these countries, what was their point of view on this situation?
