A list of puns related to "Adaptations of Sherlock Holmes"
Both the BBC Sherlock as well as the American Elementary series modernize the setting and make the characters very different from the original stories. Are there any TV adaptations that faithfully adapt Holmes?
Looking to find some underrated and/or lesser known gems, but I'd love anything Sherlock, really!
So far, i've seen:
2.RDJ's Sherlock holmes movies
3.Elementary
4.Dr. Who
5.The mentalist
6.Monk
7.The great mouse detective
Honorary mention to Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes which i haven't seen yet, but I always hear highly of.
I know elementary is the closest thing with Watson being a woman, but I mean an actual Sherlockette. Am I the only one who wants to see this?
I'm usually pretty skeptical about ''gender-bender'' reboots of iconic character. But I'd heard a lot of nice things about Miss Sherlock and the trailers were interesting. So I decided to take the plunge, and boy, am I glad that I did :)
This show has got to be one of the best Holmes adaptations I've ever seen. Yuko Takeuchi is now pretty high up on my list of top actors to play Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Brett and Basil Rathbone possibly the only ones who unquestionably surpass her! Can't think of a better compliment for her than that...
The brilliance of Takeuchi's performance lies in the fact that she doesn't set out to play a ''female Sherlock Holmes''. She plays an all-new character whom she's made completely her own, and yet her performance shares the DNA of the performances of Cumberbatch and Brett. Its hard to explain, but its like she plays a female Japanese detective who's a lot like Sherlock Holmes, as opposed to turning Sherlock Holmes into a female Japanese detective. Basically, she doesn't come across as a gender-bent Sherlock as much as a woman who is Miss Sherlock...
Shihori Kanjiya does a great job as Wato-san (clever word-play there!) though I can't say she's a good adaptation of Dr. Watson. In a way, the approach to adapting Watson has been ever more radical than the approach to adapting Sherlock...Wato-san doesn't resemble Watson at all beyond a few obvious characteristics (Doctor who was part of an overseas war, Sherlock's roommate). She basically plays a similar role to Watson in Sherlock's life but that apart she's a completely different character. Put it this way...you line up Takeuchi's Sherlock with Cumberbatch's and you can tell that they are different takes on the same character. Line up Kanjiya's Wato-san with Martin Freeman's Watson and they're two totally different people.
Reimon was a decent adaptation of Lestrade though, and his dynamic with Shibata was a riot! Reimon actually is a cross between the classic Lestrade and Commissioner Gordon from the 60's Batman show - unwilling to even try solving a crime on his own without calling in the expert. In the meantime, poor Shibata does the real work...
The show's Mycroft, Kento Futaba, has got to be one of the nicest versions of the character we've ever seen. I've never felt sorry for Mycroft having to put up with Sherlock in the BBC series, but here I did feel for Kento sometimes!
The reveal of ''Moriarity'' on the show was a stroke of geni
... keep reading on reddit โกThis was one of my favorites growing up. It has such a clever premise with Dr. John Watson (Kingsley) as the true "brains" behind the Holmes and Watson duo, and Sherlock Holmes (Caine) as a drunken, failed actor playing the "face" of the duo for publicity reasons.
I actually hadn't thought about it in years, but I watched it again recently and it really is worth a watch if you want to want to see what a good Sherlock Holmes comedy can be (with two multiple academy award winning actors in the leading roles).
I remember it involving a forest, a military person and undertakers. And modern things like a car and mobile phone. It was a radio drama. Anyone knows about this?
I mean, his intelligence must reflect in his deductions, NOT making Sherlock Holmes the smartest character out there by throwing senseless affirmations in the bunch that have no basis in reality. For me, if a person is smart, his affirmations are grounded in reality, and if these are as good as those of, let's say, Granada (Jeremy Brett), or Game of Shadows, or even better... If you want, comment, also, on the BBC TV series "Sherlock" (though it seems a bit out-of-date for the reflection of said intelligence, it was good only on s01). I mean, let's face it, might surprise me if it doesn't, considering Elementary goes along with the civil rights, let's say. I mean, doesn't discriminate against gender (Watson is a woman, Moriarty is a woman, (though Moriarty and Irene Adler being the same person I don't know how it pays homage, it still eludes me in this regard, :-) )), doesn't discriminate against race (Lucy Liu might be born in the US, but her parents were of Taiwanese ancestry). I'd like it if it was the best in regards to the deductions. That's all. I've finished. Tell me what you think.
What are the best adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories, characters, or universe for kids between 5 and 11 years old. It can be books, games, cartoons, whatever. Thanks!
i started reading the short Sherlock holmes stories thanks to Chronicles' many, MANY references to them. in everything from case names to Dances of Deduction to casual flavor dialogue
it got me wondering, what was the experience of Sherlock fans when going through the game for the first time? so i thought i'd come here and ask!
I read somewhere that Sherlock Holmes was a typical example of a ............. character in fiction where the character that we think of nowadays is actually a mix of all the adaptations and nothing like the original. I can't seem to find the term again!
The more I watch shows such as elementary and sherlock, the more I think of psych as the best sherlock holmes "adaptation". Gus is a pharmaceutical rep instead of a doctor, which I love. I also love that Shawn hides his emotions behind humor, rather than rudeness like in other depictions. What do you think? Are there any other similarities that you enjoy?
