I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Trigger Warning: Child abuse
This is going to be a long one. Obligatory apoligies for any formatting issues, as I'm on mobile.
My nana (mum's mum) and I used to write letters to one another, years ago. It's something we shared a love for and it was really lovely to get to send letters back and forth on fancy stationery, sometimes with photos and little keepsakes included. But at some point, I stopped receiving replies -- I now suspect because my deadbeat uncle, who lives with and mooches off of her, was intercepting my letters to her and keeping them from her. He's an entirely separate mess.
But a few months ago, I heard through my cousin that my Nana wanted to start writing letters again, but didn't have my current address. I was delighted at the idea, so I bought a really nice letter-writing set (some beautiful floral paper and envelopes) to send her as a gift along with my first letter. Unfortunately, her reply is what prompted me to ask for advice here.
See, since we stopped exchanging letters years ago, a great deal has happened in our family. In 2015, I finally cut contact with my extremely abusive mother, after she stole my critical heart medication in order to blackmail me into apoligising to her for standing up for myself. I'd finally been able to move out of my parents' house in 2014 (I'm disabled and now live with my bff, who is also my carer -- he's truly, superhumanly wonderful) and my bff had been helping me learn how to set and enforce boundaries, which my mum was handling extremely poorly. The incident that led to her stealing my meds was essentially all of that coming to a head and was the final push I needed to cut contact for good.
Then in 2019, I finally cut contact with my dad, too. He was also abusive, but in different ways. He's a truly pathetic creature and habitually threw his own daughters between himself and our monstrous mother, just so he wouldn't have to deal with her. When I was 5yo and while crying my eyes out, begged him to protect my little sister from mum's violence, he told me that not only was it my fault that mum beat and tormented me ("Mummy wouldn't do that unless you were naughty."), but that it was also my fault when she beat and tormented my then 2yo sister. He said it was my responsibility, as her big sister, to set the example, so if mum beat her, it meant I'd failed to teach her not to misbehave. Yeeeeeah, he's a real piece of shit, that one. And that's FAR from the worst shit he did.
