A list of puns related to "AP English Literature and Composition"
I am kinda confused. Should I include this score in my application since it is the most challenging AP exam to score 5 and I am international. I am not interested in getting college credits and etc but people around me say that English is not my first language and getting 3 is pretty good for ap lit. Should I include this score in my application or do you think it may look bad?
Hello, everyone. I hope this is alright to post here!
I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could give me suggestions on what to write about for my upcoming literary analysis in-class write on the play Othello (Shakespeare). This book completely went over my head and I can gather a few key concepts from Shmoop and the like, but Iβm struggling to piece together the story enough to find a potential focus for an unspecified essay prompt that I can write on without access to the text.
Any help regarding key themes, relationships, and literary devices used in the text would be absolutely amazing.
This is my first time posting on this subreddit, so I apologize if my formatting is incorrect. Have a good day!
To preserve anonymity (and prevent CollegeBoard Security from hunting me down when they see the essay that matches what I said here) Iβm going to say that the author has a book on the list of acceptable sources to base your essay on. Iβm not sure if the short story fit very well with the prompt. I asked the AP Lit teacher at my school (I took a lower level English class because it wouldnβt fit into my schedule) and they said itβs βvery possibleβ that points could be taken off because they were looking for something a little longer than that, although flat out giving me a 0 is not likely. I feel like the points within the essay were kind of forced and the content in general was not very good, although I thought the same thing last year with AP Lang and I ended up with a 5. Does anyone have any insight? I need a 4 for college credit, so it may not have much of an impact if I did ok on other parts of the exam.
Do you think it helped with your analysis abilities, appreciation for the classics, etc?
Edit: I'm already in the class. I'm asking this question because lately it has seemed like a waste of my time.
Edit Edit: Thanks for all the support and advice! I've decided I'll just trudge through the work and try to make the most of it.
I'm trying to figure out which classes to take next year. Which of the 2 is typically taken first, and what distinguishes one from the other?
None of my teachers have given us the official released practice exam yet, and I want to start practicing as soon as possible with material that best reflects the upcoming AP exam. If anyone has a copy of the 2016 practice exams for any of the AP above, it would be great if you could share them :) thanks for your help!
I will be graded on this, and I am worried about a few things, as you can probably tell. I'm also probably screwed if my classmates don't get into it. I need ideas and suggestions on how I can run this (I have been dming for one year). Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: She said it should still be one hour but it can spill into two if need be
Edit 2: Iβll state for the record that I might be using an idea from the comments of a group that was hired by the Capulets to find out why Juliet keeps disappearing at night. Their trail will lead them to the Montegues, fight scene ensues, and carrying a tied up Juliet back to the Capulets. Crisis averted. I will be using this.
More ideas are still welcome, for me or anyone else who can be helped by this post. If I see anything better I will change my mind.
Edit 3: After reviewing some suggestions, I may end up not having stat sheets at all and just having d20s, or having just the main stats, and running a narrative driven session.
YOOOO GUYS
THE AP ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION A UNIT 1 TEST DONT HAVE ANSWERS ONLINE
JUST TOOK THE TEST AND GOT 45%
JUST WARNING YOU GUYS TO STUDY LOL
My teacher this year is not teaching us much of the AP curriculum, so I talked to some seniors who had taken the same class with the same teacher in the past few years. Even some of the smartest kids I know told me that they were completely unprepared for the AP test. I asked the teacher when the last time somebody got a 5 was, and he told me it had been 3 years. Essentially, I don't think going through the class regularly will prepare me sufficiently for the AP exam.
So, I ordered a Barron's book on it, but am wondering how to best use it, and also if there are any other resources helpful for self-studying my way to a 5. I looked on youtube but there is not nearly as much material as there is for a class like APUSH. Thanks for your help!
Im currently having to decide between which classes to pick and am wondering what the better option would be, does anyone have an idea of what that might be?
Hey! Iβm a rising freshman. Iβve been posting all over Reddit asking for advice on which English course I should take next year, but I am still torn, so I found this subreddit and I hope to receive some clarity here.
I am currently taking 10th Literature and Composition Honors. Next year, I have the choice to take either AP Lang (with an American Literature Component to meet the stateβs graduation requirement) or 11th American Lit Honors. I was recommended for the latter; however, I am not sure that is the course that I want to take/is best for me. Which one would be best for me? Can anyone describe how AP Lang (with or without American Literature) or Honors American Literature have been for them? What are the classes like? Thank you so much!!
If I scored a 4 on AP English Language and Composition, then do I still have to take ENGL101? They both fulfill the AW(academic writing) Gen Ed requirement, so can I skip ENGL101 and go take an English course that fulfills my PW(professional writing) graduation requirement?
Does anyone know how the scores out of 6 will translate to the 1-5 grading scale? My teacher says that she believes that a 3 will be a 3, 4-5 will be a 4 and 6 will be a 5. What did your teachers say?
Iβm planning on giving AP Lang to satisfy the English Composition Requirements for UCβs but on filling the application it says that a score of 3 ,4 or 5 will only fulfil one requirement. Do I now have to give both AP Lang and AP Lit or will a higher score in one satisfy both my requirements.
Were the FRQs pretty specific, or general knowledge? And were the MCQ somewhat reasonable? Gonna take it Wednesday
From what I understand, even if I have high enough scores on both tests I would only get credit for one. Is that correct?
Even though I currently have an A in this class I literally hate it so much. Iβm a junior and Iβve taken advanced English courses throughout my whole high school career so I thought this would be easy, but Iβm starting to lose motivation when it comes to completing the assignments for this class and Iβm sure my grade will drop next semester if I continue. Will it look bad on my college application if they see I switched to an easier class in the middle of the year? Iβm also in two other AP classes that I plan on continuing.
A 3 is not a high enough score to get credit for one of those classes at UT Austin, but is there a someway I can claim credit at a community college and then transfer it?
Hello all!
I am a new AP Lit teacher, and I had a question regarding how other teachers in this course set up their grade books.
My main question has to do with Practice exams, both MC and written response. Do you enter these grades into your gradebooks? If so, how? For the MC, are they simply given a test grade for the % correct out of 55? This seems tough, and doesn't really sync up with the passing % of the exam itself. For the written response, do you apply a letter grade to 1-9 scores. Does the grading scale change as the year progresses?
Other than that, I'm just interested in general as to how you set up your grades! What are your category percentages?
I'm sure the latter is a question that is asked a lot, but I couldn't find much information on the first half of my post, so it seemed worth posting about. Thanks!
I keep seeing people say there is studying material on College Board but I can never seem to find it? Am I just dumb? Do I put it in the search bar? Iβm kinda confused...
In that 2018 exam there was a poem about plants and how they are slowly taking over the world through mischevious ways. One example is comparing plants to seducers for the human to sniff and spread pollen. Something about comparing air born seeds to a war like thing. It's adorable, please, if anyone knows what I'm talking about help? When I remembered the given author name right after the exam, I did look it up and found nothing anywhere. It was weird.
Hey guys, my AP Lit teacher is letting us pick a book for independent reading. What book should I pick? I like science fiction
Hi guys, I'm currently a freshman and I'm probably going to take on level English 2 as a virtual course over the summer to free up space for my other classes. That means I won't be taking any honors English in 10th grade. I'm a little worried because I want to get a good grade in AP English 3 and a good score on the AP Exam. I was wondering what I should do next year to improve my writing and reading skills (learning high-level vocabulary, read a lot of books, etc.) in the absence of a normal English semester.
Please let me know what I can do! :)
Hey! I am currently taking 10th Literature and Composition Honors. Next year, I have the choice to take either of the courses previously stated. However, I am not sure which one to choose. I was recommended for the former, but I am not sure that that is what I want to take. Any advice for choosing?
Hey! Iβm a rising Freshman! I currently take 10th Literature and Composition Honors and I was recommended for 11th American Literature and Composition Honors. However, at my school, you can take either AP Lang or Honors American Lit after 10th Lit. I am really struggling to choose which one to do and which is best for me. What do you guys recommend I take? Can anyone describe what the classes are/should be like?
Here is a list of the other classes Iβll be taking next year to show my academic work load:
Spanish 4 Honors GSE Geometry B/Algebra 2 Honors Biology Honors AP US Government and Politics Intro into Digital Technology
Thank you so much!
