The prevailing speculation is that Chance may be announcing his candidacy for Chicago mayor, as the incumbent Democratic mayor, Rahm Emmanuel, is not running for reelection in 2019. It's worth noting that Chance has previously spoken out against Emmanuel on a number of issues.
This speculation is supported by the fact that Chance tweeted the phrase "Im thinkin maybe I should" four hours before this announcement, which seems like a clear reference to his 2015 song "Somewhere in Paradise" where he raps:
They screamin', "Chano for mayor," I'm thinkin' maybe I should
It's common knowledge that Chance is incredibly invested in his hometown, so this move wouldn't be super uncharacteristic, although it would be very drastic and a bit unprecedented. What are your guys' thoughts?
Edit: added extra info and context.
Edit 2: Some sources are saying that this announcement will in fact be an endorsement, not an announcement of candidacy. Please note that everything in this post is speculation and remains unconfirmed by Chance himself, except for the fact that he will hold a press conference tomorrow.
Edit 3: Chance has endorsed Amara Enyia for mayor of Chicago. https://twitter.com/chancetherapper/status/1052220999444369408 >Amara for Mayor
>Thatβs Love NYβ€οΈ for real.. Never got a mayor vote ! π€·π½ββοΈβοΈ
> The Atlanta Hawks star received a single vote in New York City's general election for mayor on Nov. 2. It still left him 753,800 short of mayor-elect Eric Adams, but it's not the first time he's been involved in the New York mayor discussion.
> The Knicks were most represented with Tom Thibodeau (three votes if you count the misspelled Tom Thibodau), Kemba Walker and RJ Barrett getting votes. After Judge, Julius Randle was the most popular with six votes, while Knicks legends Patrick Ewing, Walt Frazier and Carmelo Anthony also received votes. > > James Harden and Kyrie each received a vote, but Kevin Durant was left to wonder what could've been for the Nets' Big Three after one voter spelled his name Kevia Durant. > > "Bing Bong," this year's nonsensical rallying cry for Knicks fans, even received two votes, the same amount as Jets quarterback Mike White. But sports fans may have redeemed themselves with votes for Harlem native Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Colin Kaepernick.
While researching the Chicago Mayoral candidates I ran across this NPR article which asks candidates yes or no questions. To make it easier for myself, I then created this Excel table to use as a point system to see which candidates I best match with. The way it works is I ask myself one of the questions and if I answer "yes", then I give every candidate who answered "yes" a point and everyone who answered "no" or "N/A" a -1. Then I researched the three highest candidates to see which one I liked best. This has helped me eliminate candidates I don't agree with, and made this process a little less overwhelming. I hope it can help some of you as well.
I made the spreadsheet available to everyone with the link. I just ask that you please download the file and edit on your own computer to keep this template available for others.
Furnace Ancona would undoubtedly be a popular option due to her stance on supporting the workers, but I can't imagine her ever accepting a noble title, even if it is purely honorary.
Frankly, I would love a London run by either (a) Mr Slowcake or (b) the Tentacled Entrepreneur. Yes, this is purely out of spite from my candidates never winning, but think of the memes! The storytelling potential and in-jokes if we have an exception person(s) or a Rubbery Man become Lord Mayor! It's not like it will trigger another catastrophe like back in 1899...oh wait...and the Great Sink was also caused by a Lord Mayor...hmmm....
The royalists would probably want the Captivating Princess to run again, but in this political climate (in no way connected to recent calendrical outrage), it seems unlikely.
If a Master should want to run, I nominate Mr Fires, as nothing loves this city more than him! London is already an industrial hellhole, what more can it do (Orphanage doesn't count).
If a Calendar Council member should want to run, I also support September since he's already an option for Balmoral Castellan, Unbishop, player spouse, board member, etc. Then again, maybe the new March may pop around if he's unavailable.
Know if you're going to vote yet, and if so whom for?

So from a game perspective, it wouldn't be likely for Lewis to lose his mayorship.
If someone WAS going to run though, who would win?
Let's exclude candidates who already have a satisfying job, or characters who are ambiguously aged but probably are too young to be taken seriously as town administrators.
Robin, Pierre, Marnie, Harvey, Willy, and Gunther are all out, as are Jas, Leo and Vincent. I'll also remove George and Evelyn because retirement is an occupational category.
We have Demetrius, Maru, Sebastian, Shane, Leah, Wizard, Marlon, Gil, Linus, Dwarf, Krobus, Jodi, Kent, Sam, Pam, Penny, Alex, Clint, Caroline, Abigail, Haley, Emily, and Elliot. And Gus, of course.
We can eliminate Sebastian, Abigail, Wizard, and Linus on the basis that none of them like spending a lot of time engaging with the rest of the town and would get turned off by the heavy public engagement part of the job.
We can knock out Leah and Elliot because they're both in the town in order to focus on pursuing a specific dream. Maru, as well, has a specific life goal in mind that has nothing to do with politics.
Shane and Pam...wouldn't win. Krobus and the Dwarf wouldn't either, just because most of the town isn't aware of their existence. Clint doesn't like his job so he might be open to running, but the guy does not have the personal skills needed to be mayor.
Gil wouldn't run, because being mayor would involve getting out of his chair more than necessary.
Kent is working through some serious PTSD and probably wouldn't want that on his plate. Jodi definitely wants more out of her life, but she also feels guilty about dreaming of leaving her family, so she wouldn't pursue anything like that until Vincent is grown into an adult.
Sam seems to show indifference if not some degree of annoyance at the governors existence, so he probably wouldn't care enough about the prestige or power of mayorhood to justify the effort.
Oh, and exclude the farmer because obviously they'd win.
We have Demetrius, Marlon, Penny, Alex, Caroline, Haley, Emily And Gus as viable candidates.

Lewis - Why mess with a bad thing? He's been the mayor for years, and the towns doing fine. Why are we suddenly talking about a new mayor anyway? Let's not make any hasty decision ok? ...Guys please, this is all he has.
Demetrius - OK, technically he has a job, but...does he really? He just kinda does stuff in his house in the woods. Who is he d
