Vienna Circle Puns

That the human mind can arbitrarily create any number of forms of conceptual order or disorder on things perceived in the environment of the individual being. Forms of math would be one or more such overlays as well as naming, or any other form of order or classification. And these conceptual overlays can, among other things, create identities including A=B

Are there any books you would recommend that comprise the works of philosophers from the Vienna circle? Also, would it be better to start with the philosophers one by one? I'm very interested in the subject and i don't exactly know where to start.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that when people say logical positivism is a philosophical view that's been soundly defeated, it draws on a caricature of the views of the Vienna circle, as they were ridiculously smart folk that I find it hard to believe could have their views boiled down to "lol nothing's true if I can't science it."

Someone may be tempted to reply "their views really are that bad," but I'm looking for the other side. Does anyone have any good book recommendations (preferably audiobook) for books which either (1) give an overview of their views but shows the nuances that are often ignored by their critics, or (2) tries to revive their views by presenting a new set of positions that addresses its main criticisms?

From what I remember learning in university, this was a group of scientists that promited using observable evidence to combat metaphysics. But reading about it now, it seems they might not have been that influential?

Why did their philosophy fall out of style and did it actually influence science/scientific method?

The Vienna Circle is a gathering of the brightest of the University of Vienna: brilliant mathematicians, philosophers, natural scientists and economists who are at the forefront of scientific and philosophic research. I remember learning this group of philosophers tried to combat meta-physics in science, but now I'm reading their contributions may not have been that influential. Also, what happened that made their philosophy fall out of favor? Thanks!

Our counter parts in Serbia, seemed to have deemed, that Serbs living in the "Austrian Nation", will never truly belong to that country, since they have a different language culture and religion. Putting out their Hypothesis on what it means to be a Nation. While they ignore that Serbia itself espically after the recent Balkan war and subjugation of the Bulgarian minority is itself a Multi-ethnic if not Multiracial state. From the Macedonian majority, in Macednia, to the Albanian majority in Kosovo to even the small German minority in Serbia, to quote the SANU "A minority in a much larger country... There is no doubt that in all respects save the falsified idea of the multicultural state". And they also hate to ignore the recent reforms implemented by the Kaiser himself and the efforts by the Kaiser to listen to the voices of the Serbian people, and all Peoples of the Empire. They claim that the Austrian government are "Overlords, replacing Serbian language". While ignoring that Serbian Minority Representatives where invited to the Augsleich, to negotiate the establishment of a fair and equal society, It seems where the Austrians chose the pen for appeasing Ethnic Disputes and want to make the Empire a better place for all peoples, The Serbians, especially with Bulgars and Macedons have chosen the Sword and Imperialism. The Serbs of the Austrian empire are as valued, cared about and equal to Germans, Magyars, Poles, Romanians and all other peoples who together make up the nation.

The new traffic circle at Park and Locust streets SE seems to be giving people trouble. They're either unsure of when to enter or charging into it, a lot of the time. I don't have any handy-dandy diagram or anything, but here are the rules for negotiating it, as common sense dictates:

1. People already in the circle have right-of-way. If you haven't already entered the circle, slow down (or stop, if needed) and yield to those going through it.
2. Yield to your left. If two cars approach the empty circle at the same time, the car on the left goes first.
3. Use your turn signal. If you're going straight through, obviously you don't need to do this, but if you're coming down Park from Maple and intend to turn left on Locust, indicating it helps ensure that someone coming up Park doesn't pull out in front of you.
4. Finally, slow down! Park St is a 25 mph road. There are pedestrians and people on bicycles all over. Be careful for their sake? Please? Overall, I think the circle was a huge mistake, and not putting any sort of directional signs for navigating it was just a way of hopefully engineering accidents, to give Vienna PD something to do (besides give out tickets, of course.) However, since it's there, the least people could do is come together and find a common way to utilize it. I know not too many Vienna people will actually see this, but if even one does and can get it, maybe we can slowly change how people use this abomination.

For my university course there’s ‘Tractatus’ and ‘language, truth, and logic’ on the summer reading list. One thing I’m finding difficult is the use of letters/symbols to validate certain arguments. How can I go about understanding these points??

"Can the validity of verificationism itself be verified, pinhead?"

The arrogant professor smirked quite Viennesianly and smugly replied "What is meaningful is that which can be verified, you stupid critical theorist!"

"Wrong. The principle of verification is a metaphysical position. If metaphysics is meaningless and verificationism, as you say, is true, then your assertion of verificationism is itself meaningless."

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of "Der logische Aufbau der Welt." He stormed out of the room crying those positivist crocodile tears. The same tears positivists cry for the "unethical" when they unsuccessfully try to attack rigorously argued ethical positions from the ethicists. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, Auguste Rudolf Carnap Comte, wished he had pulled together a better metaethics than emotivism and become more than a sophist moral anti-realist philosopher. He wished so much that he had an ethical framework to condemn his beliefs, but he himself had argued against them!

The students applauded and all renounced Carnap that day and accepted Popper as their lord and savior. A red panda named "Falsifiability Criterion" climbed into the room and perched atop the Aristotelian Corpus and shed a tear on the chalk. The The Poverty of Historicism was read several times, and Thomas Kuhn himself showed up and enacted a paradigm shift across the philosophy of science.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the positivist plague Metaphysics Chondrodysplasia and was forced to accept the truth-aptness of theological propositions.
