A list of puns related to "Viasat"
I also had to ask them three times to give me tracking. I have a feeling they created it when I called, as it was created that day. Going to call again as it's been 7 days which is how much they say to wait.

Update: I got the 20% statement credit on my Delta Reserve for the Wi-Fi pass purchase. Since the pass was $5, I got $1 posted with statement credit titled "20% In-Flight Savings for Delta SkyMiles."
Note: In my original post, I incorrectly stated the statement credit would be 25% instead of 20%. I was confusing the Delta Reserve's in-flight discount to that of the United Infinite Card.
On a flight right now from ATL to EWR on a 737-900 with the new Viasat. I often buy the flight pass for Viasat equipped planes to stay connected the whole flight for a flat rate. Today when I went to connect, it routed me to a new website (Delta, not Viasat) and when I bought the $5 pass it coded as a Delta purchase. I bought it on the Delta Reserve so I got an email from AMEX that I used an AMEX Offer for 2X additional miles on delta purchases and I believe itβll also trigger the 25% statement credit since itβs an in-flight delta purchase and now codes as Delta and not Viasat. I took this same route a few days ago and this was not the case so Iβm guessing itβs new.

I thought I was the only victim until ALL of my neighbors told me the same horror stories. This is the only way to fight back :)
Had TMHI for 2 weeks and it was a no brainer compared to Viasat. Speeds so far up to 160mbps down and 70 mbps up. Latency seems to be hovering around 45ms. Viasat I averaged 750ms and 50ish mbps down. Viasat tried to offer me a 30 dollar credit and I'm sure they're required to but I told them where to put their offer. I am so happy I stumbled on Tmobile (on the starlink sub no less) I expected it to be too good to be true but it was true. I'm going to work on an antenna next as we have a metal roof and I'm sure we can do better than the numbers we're getting. We're also canceling ATT satellite cable and going to full streaming so I'm getting a 400$ a month raise. We live a couple miles from cable internet and about 5 miles from fiber but on our long road there's only 4 houses and mostly elderly inhabitants so theyll never swing our way. Unbelievable guys!
ViaSat is spending $2.3B on its next generation ViaSat-3 constellation (that's build cost, launch cost, insurance, etc.) Each of the three satellites has about 1 terabit of capacity. The first bird will fly over the Americas. The second satellite will cover Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. And the third will provide service to the Asia-Pacific region.
To provide continuous coverage over similar (global) territory, SpaceX had to launch about 1700 satellites. That's probably somewhere around $1.5B in cost. Based on my rough estimates, the current Starlink constellation should provide at least twice the usable bandwidth of the three ViaSat-3 sats though. Oh, and with far better latency.
ViaSat is spending 50% more for half the capacity of Starlink. What am I missing in their business? Where do they make up that cost difference? Is it duration? From what I can tell, ViaSat needs to launch improved satellites every 4-6 years to stay competitive, so I don't think they make much of it up on equipment longevity. Then again, they do keep the older sats in operation it seems, so maybe satellite mission duration is where they find savings.
(Even if SpaceX was paying retail for launches, I think they'd still come out ahead in the economics.)

Hi all,
Right now I am awaiting Dishy, I have an old DirecTV dish next to my Viasat dish on my roof. I want to install the Dishy on the DirecTV pole and leave the Viasat running for a month or so, to verify Starlink is up and running, then chuck Viasat in the dumpster.
Will running Starlink and Viasat at the same time cause any interference? Sorry if this is a silly question. I don't have much knowledge in this area.
Also, I'm assuming the cable they give us out of the box is fine in snow? I would be running it along my roof and down the side of my house, and being in Wisconsin we get some pretty brutal snow and cold temps.
Thanks so much for all the great info on here! Here's to hoping we all get our dishy soon.

73 flights this year. Gogo on 71 of them and it worked on 70 of 71. Viasat on 2 of them and it hasnβt worked on either. Why the change?

Viasat is purchasing a sat company that has plans to build a LEO constellation. Planned availability is 2026, so it will be interesting to see how Viasat plans to compete with Starlink, who will be the entrenched LEO provider at that point.
For those HughesNet/ViaSat customers who have been set free by Starlink, do you still find yourself sometimes counting your data use out of habit?
I know I do.

>PARIS β Satellite broadband hardware and service provider Viasat Inc. is trying to persuade large nations outside the United States to deny landing rights to preserve the long-term usability of low Earth orbit for themselves and others by actively scrutinizing all large LEO constellations, including SpaceX's Starlink, and adopting standards to ensure equivable access for all.

Unfortunately I'm not a subscriber to SpaceIntelReport. Viasat sounds desperate.
Ok, most of us know at this point that satellite internet such as Viasat isn't the best. Whenever I run a speed test, it averages about 30 MBPS download speed, which is around 800 average latency. It isn't good for gaming, but it's enough to where I can watch videos at around 360p.
But when it reaches exactly 8:00 PM, the MBPS goes from 30 MBPS download speed to <1 MBPS, and it gives me about 600,000 ping average!! I can't even watch videos at the lowest quality possible.
At 1:00 AM it returns to the speeds it was before 8:00 PM. I'm not sure what I can do to fix this. I've tried disconnecting other devices from the internet. It's getting so annoying to the point where I'm about to call customer service about it. But before I do, is there any other way I can fix it? I have a 50 MBPS download speed plan.
UPDATE: A Viasat technician came over and said that the dish was wonky or something, so he moved it. Did absolutely nothing.

Was super pumped to hear viasat took the emergency broadband benefit. Our neighbors have viasat and works way better than hughesnet. But, seems that only some states qualify for EBB with viasat. is it a state by state roll out? Will it apply to all states eventually?
[Meta note: I tried to use the News flair but the automod didn't like that. Trying again with discussion. Let me know if there is another flair (or another subreddit) that would be more appropriate.]
I do not have a position because I do not know all the ins and outs on insider trading rules. So I am posting it here to make it not insider information. This is all thirdhand information from somebody that doesn't have a full view of the company. He probably doesn't know what he's talking about. That would mean I definitely don't know what I am talking about. You shouldn't trade on any of the following information. That would be silly.
The CEO and People & Culture (HR) bigwigs are going around middle management and pushing hard on vaccine status attestation. They will almost certainly be going hard on vaccines themselves soon. Things have come to a head and the bigwigs have put those unwilling to attest to vaccination status on leave-without-pay. It probably only affected a handful of the most artistic programmers.
They have done this without consulting the project managers. The affected project managers are going to have a hard time getting their projects done with some of their most artistic employees pulled from the team suddenly. My understanding is there was no planning for this. Upper management seems to assume programmers are a commodity. I suspect they are not. I am assuming antivaxxers skew artistic in the programming world. Just based on past experience, good programmers are not in-the-box-thinkers, they tend to think they are smarter than everybody else about everything, and are the most likely not to respond well to "do this because I said so" stuff. Viasat hasn't gotten to the get-vaxxed-or-get-out point. But it seems like that is likely going to be coming soon. And when it does, they will be sidelining many more of their most artistic programmers.
I know many think the company is going to eat it when Starlink comes out. I don't know about that. What Starlink is trying to do is hard. But I am saying that a handful of been-vaxxed-so-much-they-already-got-artism-so-bad-they-don't-even-want-to-say-if-they-drank-the-Fauci-juice-or-not programmers are locked out. I suspect Viasat is planning on locking out or repurposing other slightly-less-artistic-but-still-pretty-artistic programmers for not being vaxxed. And Viasat thinks this won't be such a big deal because they plan on rearranging the workforce because C-suite managers think that's no b
