Vellore mutiny
The Vellore mutiny on 10 July 1806 was the first instance of a large-scale and violent mutiny by Indian sepoys against the East India Company, predating the Indian Rebellion of 1857 by half a century. The revolt, which took place in the South Indian city of Vellore lasted one full day, during which mutineers seized the Vellore Fort and killed or wounded 200 British troops. The mutiny was subdued by cavalry and artillery from Arcot. Summary executions of about 100 mutineers took place during the suppression of the outbreak, killing over 600 of the mutineers, followed by the formal court-martial of smaller numbers.

The Vellore Mutiny preceded the 1857 uprising by half a century and broke out within the Madras Army over a new dress code. Soldiers were forbidden to wear caste marks, grow beards or wear turbans. Hats made using cow or pig leather were made mandatory, offending the religious sentiments of Hindus and Muslims, and sepoys who refused to abide by the code were punished severely. This prompted a widespread mutiny, which led to Indian rebels seizing Vellore Fort (seen in the image is a view of the temple within the Fort) and killing over a hundred British soldiers and officers. The revolt was quashed by the British in a matter of hours and over 350 Indians had lost their life by the end of the bloody episode. Later, another, more devastating event would further fuel the rage against the colonial empire. The Madras Famine of 1877 resulted in the deaths of 55 lakh Indiansβthis is considered by historians to be a conservative estimate. While the people starved, the British continued to export grain (see image 2 with a view of grain sacks piled on First Line Beach, Chennai) and slashed their welfare budgets. The resulting trauma would fuel the fires of rage against the colonial empire in Madras.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
