Question: Do Hindus still worship Parjanya, the Vedic god of thunder and weather?
Context: I'm a Heathen, a pagan follower of the pre-christian Germanic gods, and when doing history dives to aid reconstruction a topic I've seen come up a few times has been the origins of our gods. However, the most widespread by far seems to be the god we call Thor or Thunor, god of thunder, and historical record suggests he originated from the Proto-Indo-European god Perkwunos. Perkwunos also appears in Slavic paganism as Perun, and other Indo-European pagan religions under different names, but one of the one of the oldest is the Indian Parjanya.
All of the Perkwunos-based gods often have similar associations; depicted with some form of weapon, such as a hammer, mace, axe or club, and are associated with thunderstorms, general weather and oak trees. I really enjoy reading on this however I often seem to find not too much information about Parjanya compared to the other forms of Perkwunos. Us Pagans worshipping Perkwunos under whatever name we're used to are reconstructing or getting inspiration from old faiths, whilst Hinduism has continued to survive this whole time. It would be really cool to know that there are still people who pray to Parjanya, as that would mean that at least one of our many gods never truly stopped being worshipped.
Continuation of the question: how does this universe view of Vedas to be understood .where is Sumeru parvatha? .. I have done a lot of reading about it ..theories like Sumeru is an energy mountain near mount kailas etc ..and tantric view of the sushumna naadi to be the Meru dhanda and our body is defined through this sloka etc .. but it's the most confusing bit of Vedas for me .. any thoughts ??
It's confusing. Some articles on the internet say it's the 9th house, others say it's the 7th house itself no matter how many marriages you have. What is your opinion?
Also Shiva shows using it positively? That means your Govt has been compromised, but all govts have been to a degree. It does not make sense, because is it not one of the things that came out of the churning of the milk ocean stories? Marijuana used properly only boosts everything positive already in your life. Here some of the biggest CEO's use it regularly but you cannot tell they use it. It does not create a "look" that is a fake made up movie thing, or a plant trying to make the plant look bad. No one in history has died from this plant. Medical benefits are not just minor but maybe the biggest since it helps so many conditions.
Anyone know of vedic style chanting using English? I'm looking for audio of vedic style chants of sutras/mantras/suktams translated to English.
What does the retrograde mean ?! Does it mean debilitation ?
Which one do you follow, and how do you decide?
Asking because I’m so confused.
In Western or Tropical Astrology, I’m an Aquarius sun, Aries moon, Gemini rising. In Vedic, I’m a Capricorn sun, Pisces moon, Taurus rising.
I couldn’t be two more different people lol talk about an identity crisis.

By "whatever you make of it" I mean "whatever you think of the quality of the reasoning that's gone into it" or "whether you attach any value to religious type mythologies & allthat".
And by "... it can be made to seem there is" is meant "... it can be made to seem there is a necessary connection between it & Flatwit malarky".
"Whatever you make of it ... " could be a misleading turn-of-phrase, because hijacking it & mauling it is an instance of making something of it ! ... but there's a limit to the length of a caption.
I thought at first that there was no such necessary connection: I was actually very surprised to find anyone making-out that there is any such necessary connection.
yadā hi nēndriyārthēṣu na karmasvanuṣajjatē| sarvasaṅkalpasannyāsī yōgārūḍhastadōcyatē||6.4|| Indeed, when one is interested neither in sense-objects nor in (their) pursuits, then that renouncer of all fancies (to pleasures) is said to be one who has reached dhyānayōga.
A mature mind is free from obsession with sense pleasures. The word obsession is important. Our scriptures allow the pursuit of wealth & pleasure (arta kāma puruṣārtaḥ). What is discouraged is constant rumination and planning around these desires alone. So long as long the mind is obsessed with money and entertainment, Vēdānta has no appeal. Vēdānta will appear irrelevant. The person with a mature mind can reduce karma. A mature mind is not craving after pleasures. A mature mind can indulge in pleasure, without forming attachment to them. If at all there is any craving, it for activities promoting Dharma & Moksha. The person who has developed such detachment (vairagyam) is called sarva saṅkalpaḥ sanyāsi
There was a recent post (which I am not able to locate now) with the theory that varna restrictions applied only to "ritual purity" of rituals, and not to Vedic study. I found a relevant section in Sri Rama Ramanuja Achari's treatise on Mimamsa which seems to support that conclusion:
========
It has been traditionally believed that Veda study is open only to men of the upper three castes. This denial of universal access in fact has been one of the greatest obstacles to the preservation and propagation of the Veda. This prerogative for Veda study in latter centuries became the exclusive privilege of male Brahmins only. Even today most Brahmin Veda scholars and teachers generally do not teach any nonbrahmins, women and certainly not foreigners. But the Veda itself, on the contrary declares that it is meant for all.
>yathemām vācam kalyāṇīṃ āvadāni janebhyaḥ |
>
>brahma rājanyābhyāṃ śūdrayā cāryāya ca svāya cāraṇāya ca ||
>
>"Just as I have revealed this beneficial [Vedic] truth to all people, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Sudras, Vaishyas (aryas), our own kin (svaya) and to the foreigners (aranāya) also". (Sukla Yajur Veda 26:2)
>satyam aham gabhīraḥ kāvyena satyaṃ jātenāsmi jātavedaḥ |
>
>na me dāso nāryo mahitvā vratam mīmāya yad ahaṃ dhariṣye ||
>
>“O Man, I, being of the nature of truth and being unfathomable, have revealed the true Vedic knowledge; so I am he who gave birth to the Veda. I cannot be partial either to a Dāsa (sudra) or an Arya; I save all those who behave like myself (i.e., impartially) and follow my truthful commands”. (Atharva Veda 5.11.3)
Although there are some passages in the Brahmanas which discuss the Sudras eligibility to perform sacrifices (yajñas) nowhere in Samhita or the Upanisadic portions is any mention made of eligibility based on gender, social differences or ethnic origins.
The oft quoted passages limiting Veda study to male Brahmins only occur from the Smrti period onwards. Most of what the Smrtis have to say is redundant in modern times. And if there is a conflict between Smṛti and Śruti the Śruti is the final authority.
Everyone has the right to the highest wisdom from the best source available, and everyone should be encouraged to study the Veda and the allied Sacred texts.

This view resonates with me.
Thanks for reading.

Hello all,
Can somebody please tell me if Horary principles can be used for prashna by casting a sidereal chart? I just completed a fantastic course on making predictions based on Horary, but the instructor used only tropical charts. I want to be able to learn to predict accurately using Horary principles for prashna, but I'm only familiar with vedic chart casting. I use Jagannatha Hora for all my astrological study. I have never dealt with tropical charts ever, and KP concepts of cusp etc. are very very confusing to me (even if the calculations are available in Jagannatha Hora).
Please help!
Thank you :)
Are there any genetic or theological studies that show where the cutoff
point would be for there being a major separation between the Vedic
Invaders and the Indian Natives?
In the Vedantic and Yogic Darshana state that, out of infinite possibilities of Brahman arises a throbbing or vibration (Śakti), the concept of creation and its preservation emerges from this as a thought, this concept is titled Vishnu (Viṣṇu) – meaning that which is “all-pervasive” or that which “encompasses everything”. Hence Viṣṇu is an aspect of Cit Śakti (cit:śakti) and so the entirety of creation becomes Viśvām. In Sanskrit, “Viś” or “Viśta” means that which enters or permeates, hence the title Viṣṇu or Śipi-viṣṭa. Sri Aurobindo famously calls Viṣṇu the space or canvas in which all inhabitants flourish, while Śiva is the auspiciousness that is a natural occurrence untouched by the temporary realities created by Prakṛti. Shiva is Su:Mangalam, and the force or innate indweller of all is Rudra. The mind and the ruler of the individual’s psychology is Indra, the life-force is Vayu, the brilliance is Surya, the transmutation is Agni, speech is Vāk which in return is also Agni, and variation/flavor/sweetness of Rudra is the Immortal Soma.
