Trying to help my aunt before the dealer has time to look at her car (next Wednesday). She owns a 2014 Jetta 1.8T Auto that she purchased brand new in Feb 2014. Always kept up with the maintenance from the dealer (eekk) however recently it started to have an occasional rough idle where the tach will buck +/- 300RPM. The car has 90k miles on it and had a new timing chain covered by warranty around 60k miles. We are in the Northern Midwest and it has been cold (although unheated garage kept)
First off I noticed an issue with the battery (read 12.1v) so I pulled it and had a parts store load test it which they agreed had some bad cells. So I said we need to start there as a low battery can cause all kinds of things. New battery in and first drive things seems good. Second start (warm start) it will start its bucking idle but a quick throttle blip cleared it up.
Below are the codes from before the battery was replaced. Today if the CEL is back Ill read them again.
This video most closely relates to what the car is doing and also the codes the tech in the video is seeing are similar.

What is everyone's experience on it being the camshaft magnet? Any pointers to test it out before replacing?
She does mostly super short commutes to work - less than 1 mile which isnt helping since the car doesnt warm up most days :(
I have VCDS but dont really want to lock the VIN but I can do some light troubleshooting with that too.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Iβve been experiencing extreme shortness of breath 24/7 for over 6 months. I was diagnosed with GERDs that affected my esophagus and caused vocal cord dysfunction. Iβve been taking omeprazole, started fasting, and avoiding all triggers, but it seems to be getting no better. I always feel the need to yawn and can barely do anything in this state. my mental health has never been worse and many times I think that it wouldve been better if I was just dead. I went from young and completely healthy to this. These treatments arenβt helping me, and people say it takes years to even be qualified for any surgeries. Iβm losing hope quickly, and this all sounds dramatic, but itβs hard to keep things in perspective
Does anyone else have persistent VCD (where it happens all the time) and insomnia? I havent slept in a week and a half and was just diagnosed with VCD. This study suggests 95% of people with VCD have insomnia.
My doctor prescribed amitriptyline and Im praying it works.
I quit smoking weed months ago but I want to start up again as Iβm having a lot of anxiety. Would weed worsen my VCD/ have any of yβall used smoking weed to help your VCD?
In July I went to the ER 5 times because I couldnβt breathe, and it was wrongly attributed to an asthma or anxiety attack. We finally figured out that I had VCD that was induced by GERD/acid reflux. They started me on medications and I was optimistic for a while, but now itβs just going back to the same even after going to a pulmonologist and changing the foods I eat. I am constantly trying to take a deep breath or yawning to get any kind of air in, and it makes doing daily tasks so impossible. Iβve never been more miserable in my life, and Iβm afraid that I will never be able to happily live again. It sounds dramatic but I am just so miserable because of this. I donβt know what to do. I wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience.
I want to see if anyone else had vocal cord dysfunction due to GERD and what they did to help it. Iβve changed my diet and taken medication, and it got better for a little bit, but Iβm right back to where I used to be. I was wondering about getting surgery, but Iβve heard a lot of mixed reviews about it. Iβm honestly so miserable and have so little hope for ever being happy again, so I just want to hear if anyone has been successful in treating their GERD/VCD with surgery.
Just throwing this out there for anyone else who may be interested or as fussy about this stuff as I am:
By disabling this setting, it appears that the on-center steering weight becomes less boosted. I noticed the change immediately just pulling out of the driveway (and after forgetting I had toggled it on a whim a day earlier).
It's not enough to make the steering feel as nice as in our Toyota 86, but it's an improvement in an area I personally feel these cars need it the most. I have fiddled with a lot of settings over the years out of curiosity/boredom (usually with no discernable results) and this is easily one of my favorites.
I should mention that the first attempt to make the change (with obdeleven) showed an error. After trying a second time it accepted the change and it appears to stay between ignition cycles (unlike simply dialing down the steering assist support power percentage).
I wasn't able to find much else online about this but here's a post discussing the change on an Audi S1.
For reference I have a US 2017 SE with DSG.
For those familiar, I also have "Starting Vibration Reduction" disabled and "Increase Traction" enabled. Mentioning these two because in my experience they have slight effects on the steering as well (in different, less direct ways).
How accurate is the boost pressure on vcds? I have a 2015 golf tdi with the rawtek deletes and Malone stage 2 tune. I have been had open throttle compressor surge since I got the tune at low rpm with high load (happens with dsg), so I use sequential to drive around it. I was curious as to how much boost I was making with the tune, so I took my brother out and used vcds to measure it and it seems a little high.... it read a maximum of 3000 hPa which is a little over 43 PSI.
Had the timing belt changed and the car has been running rough. Is there a way to check the timing with VCDS?
I am a newbie to the computational chemical approach to CD spectroscopy. How can I predict the VCD and ECD of molecules using Schrodinger or other computational chemical softwares?
Also some manuals(youtube videos/protocols/user manuals) to do the same would be much better.
I scanned my B8.5 A5 today with my VCDS. I noticed under the engine tab that there is (as it says) not confirmed, intermittent misfire detected. One says on Cyl. 3 and the other is just general. How worried should I be? I bought the car about 5 months ago, and I have noticed nothing. I have a cat back exhaust, but no tuning or any other mods. I do get a few little pops with my exhaust, but nothing crazy, could this maybe be tripping it? Anyway, I did not notice anything, and it feels fine still. There is a little sputter @ low rpm when the clutch is in, but nothing that really concerned me.
Hey guys, so Im still waiting to be actually diagnosed with VCD, but my primary doc is almost sure i have it and has referred me to a ENT that treats voice disorders. I have noticed that when my tongue is in my mouth.... first off it just feels weird. Not sure if this is from my vitamin deficiencies my omeprazole caused or what. It's almost swollen feeling and super dry, and also is scalloped when I wake up and throughout the day. I have noticed that when its in my mouth, I feel that tightness and lump back in my throat which is what my doctor thinks is from VCD. When I stick my tongue out... the feeling most times goes completely away. Is this because sticking the tongue out relaxes the vocal cords? I have seen where exercises for VCD tell you to stick your tongue out. I am terrified my tongue is too big and is blocking my throat somehow and causing this feeling instead. Just curious if anyone else has experienced the tongue issue in relation to VCD, thanks :(.
I have been diagnosed with VCD now and people still think Iβm faking it to get out of exercising or teachers think I am to get out of gym. Yβknow I WISH I was faking it cause then it would go away. I get so sad all the time when I walk up a flight of stairs and start wheezing or I canβt finish a hike because I feel like Iβm going to pass out. Why on earth would I be faking it! Why would I fake something that took away all of my favourite sports from me? Iβm so mad and sad :(
Hi guys, I will try to give a quick background of what Ive been dealing with for the last couple of months although it is a long story. Ive been dealing with the craziest symptoms Ive ever had in my entire life. The duration of this problem is from May 28th 2021-present.
It all started at the end of May when I had an ultrasound due to my thyroid giving me problems, and was told I had a nodule on my thyroid that was highly suspicious for malignancy. It classified at the highest risk of cancer. This obviously sent me into panic, and was quite a shock, especially since I thought this was just my hypothyroidism giving me problems as usual. I had 2 biopsies that came back inconclusive and eventually genetic testing showed a 50/50 chance of cancer so my ENT said we had to remove the side of my thyroid with the nodule. Through the many weeks/months it took to figure this all out, I experienced some pretty worrisome symptoms.
In late May/June, I started off with a feeling of a tightness or constriction in my throat when Id breath in through my nose. This made no sense to anybody in my family and everyone thought I was just having anxiety, especially since my thyroid had went crazy and sent me into hyperthyroidism symptoms (racing heart, anxiety, etc.). It lasted about 2 weeks and was so concerning and uncomfortable that I was manually breathing for those whole 2 weeks and could never stop thinking of my breathing, it was pure hell. Then it just went away.... so I accepted that it had to be panic attacks.
In July this feeling came back out of no where one day after going for a walk. I panicked because I didn't want to experience the worry again. This eventually progressed into post nasal drip and a sore throat so I went to the doctor. It was thought that I was getting a sinus infection and possibly a throat infection. I had cobblestone throat pretty badly too, and a swollen lymph node the doctor found. I took the antibiotics and the symptoms never went away, and changed into other symptoms. I started having dry mouth, lump in the throat/tightness constantly, feeling like it was hard to speak, waking up in the night choking on something, etc. I made an appointment with my ENT but saw his assistant instead. The scope down my nose and throat revealed findings of reflux (inflamed vocal cords and lingual tonsil tissue). I was sent home with omeprazole 40mg and nothing more. I was so confused and scared and changed my diet drastically because of this, and also b
... keep reading on reddit β‘Those of us in colder climates are well aware of the DING that goes off and causes minor heart attacks at 39Β°F. Well, there's a way to nearly eliminate it.
Under the Dashboard (17) control unit, there are two options that can be modified to reduce the temperature at which the DING sounds. Change the following:
p_ice_warning_exit_temperature from 6Β°C to -10Β°C
p_ice_warning_entry_temperature from 4Β°C to -10Β°C
-10 is the lowest value accepted. Now the dashboard won't DING until the temperature is 14Β°F or less, 25Β° less than before. For those of you who live in places that regularly see temperatures below 14Β°F, my condolences.
Side note: If you ever want to mess with a friend, you could (in theory) set this to a much higher value in their car so it goes off all the time.
