Implementation of transformational generative grammar

Hi!

I’ve recently read Chomsky book Syntactic Structures and I was wondering if anyone knows about an implementation of some transformational generative grammar.

Basically I’d like to be able to define a set of nouns, set of verbs,... and generate sentences based on this model.

I’ve looked it up but could not find anything.

Thanks !

ELI5: Chomsky's idea of transformational grammar.

I'm doing a short presentation on Noam Chomsky for a college speech class, and in studying his work in linguistics, I came across his idea of transformational grammar. However, I'm no linguist. I have no bloody idea how to dissect the any of the definitions of this that I can find. Can someone please explain it like I'm five?

Explain like I'm five: basic transformational Grammar

Okay. So I am an American exchange student studying abroad in Germany. Currently, I'm studying syntax and, given that all the text is in German and it's not my native language, I'm finding some of it confusing. Can anyone clarify a few things for me?

Difference between Deep and Der OberflΓ€schenstruktur - (I'm not sure what this would be in English? Topological/Or Constituent structure I guess.)

X' Theory? -I understand a decent amount of this, but find the exact definition of a Specifier a little slippery. c and m kommand as well.

What is an adjunct?

Whas is the difference between a CP and an IP?

I'm reading through the text again tonight, but if someone out there in the wide world of reddit could help it would be much appreciated.

edit: I meant to say Government Binding/ X theory. The study packet I'm reading from is out to the transformational grammar section.

RRG-syle syntactic categories in a transformational grammar?

Possibly a dumb question-

My undergrad syntax was broadly transformational, but my higher level syntax has all been RRG. While I like the process in transformational grammar, the way RRG categorizes things seems to work a lot better on a global scale. Talking about actor and undergoer instead of subject and object makes ergativity make a lot more sense. Talking about predicates instead of verbs does away with unsatisfactory null copula analyses. That sort of thing.

Has there been any attempt at integrating either of those paradigms into a transformational framework?

I'm working on an app to transform any text into grammar practice

http://deklinationtrainer.pythonanywhere.com/

So far I have a tool where you can paste whatever text you enjoy reading into the app and it will blank out the definite and indefinite articles in all cases. You can then try to fill them in yourself while reading. At the end of each page you can check your work which will show you which answers you got right or wrong.

If any of you would like to try it I'd love to hear some constructive feedback (what was your experience, what did you like, what did you not like, what could I add/remove, etc)

Things I'm already thinking of adding are hot-keys so you can navigate/check work without scrolling to the bottom, day/night mode, other grammar practice options, formatting options other than line by line.

How do I mod β€œgrammar transform” for CK2?

In-game, Basque has the patronymic endings -ez/-ez. However, this is inaccurate, as they should be -itz/-itz. However, in Basque there are unusual rules about this suffix, so that β€œson of Gartzea” is β€œGartzeitz” not β€œGartzeaitz”. Is there any way I can set up a custom β€œgrammar transform=basque” to allow for such irregularities, instead of just using β€œgrammar transform=spanish”?

ReconAfrica and Nambia Economic Synergy

There have been a lot of really good DD's done on RECON Africa I apologize in advance for sentence structure, punctuation or lack thereof and grammar. (Just not a writer)

I wanted to post some contextual information (Far from Complete or Exhaustive) However, I wanted to at least make an effort at least begin painting the background of Namibia and show just how transformational a commercially viable conventional Hydrocarbon Discovery would be the surest way for Namibia to control of their economic development without reliance on the US or China.

Exporting hydrocarbons would be a significant accelerant and allow Namibia to Modernize, Industrialize and Maximize its resources.

RECONAFRICA, NAMCOR & the Namibian Government are aligned and have stated there will be no Fracking in Namibia. Ultimately Namibia will decide how its natural resources will be used.

-The main Topics I want to focus on are as follows.

  • Overview of Population & GDP:
  • Namibia's Current Energy Usage:
  • Namibia's Renewable Energy Future & Limitations:
  • Namibia's Economy: Trade Partners & Exports
  • Add on Positive Impacts

Overview

Namibian Population ~ 2.5 to 3.0 Million Namibian Annual GDP in US$ ~ 11,000,000,000 (11 Billion USD) Namibian Annual GDP Per Cap US$ ~ $ 4,211.05 (Source World Bank 2020)

Currently Approximately 40-50+% Of the Namibia's population is without electricity. The Country's Population is about 50/50 between Urban to Rural

OVER 20% of Namibia's Urban Population does not have access to Electricity and without further development by 2030 a significant portion of Namibia will still not have electricity at all.

Namibia's Current Energy Usage:

Namibia's current reliance on foreign countries for Coal, Oil, Natural Gas, is rising and 60%+ of their Electricity is currently imported. Namibia cannot afford to buy enough energy to cover its current peak usage periods.

Financial Dependence vs Financial Independence and the struggles

The majority of my friends at this point in my life are not interested in finance and investments and would have a hard time connecting with any of them on financial matters. None of them understand the concept of financial independence and retiring early. In fact, all of them are stuck in the rat race with an odd few that have family wealth but also stuck in the race to some extent. Because I lack a place to really discuss my passions and hobbies without feeling like a complete jerk I thought it would be better to share here with like minded people with a similar place in life.

So, my family and I grew up poor with barely anything to eat and lived in a very poor part of town. My parents saved every penny and were able to buy a home and got us out of a bad place. From them, I learned how to save and be frugal and am deeply grateful for the their traits and attributes that shaped me and the shelter they've given me to grow my myself and to achieve my vision of freedom from the system.

I started my journey out of high school in sciences as all Asian parents want their kids to become a Doctor. From there I learned of debt.. bad debt. On top of my scholarships I had to take out approximately 10k in student loans. This 10k did not sit well with me and I was constantly stressed that I had this debt under my name and that it would only grow in time. I sat in psychology class in the summer semester and wondered how I was going to ever pay off this debt if I never made it to become a Doctor and ended up in a science career. I made the conscious decision to stop sciences to pursue a field that handled money and finances. I went right into my first choice; which was accounting.

I use to think that I would have to work for the rest of my life for an hourly wage to save for a retirement fund that would dwindle away. My mindset changed when I worked for an Accounting firm from where I saw how every client was living their life through business and and investing their monies. I thought to myself "why am I stuck in this hourly wage grind doing this for people when I can be doing it myself? what do they know that I don't?".

All I could think of was getting out of public practice accounting as that wasn't my passion and start running a successful business. As soon as I received my license and absorbed all the accounting knowledge I could I switched gears. My friend offered me an opportunity to start a business that I

How I went from Data-Thrower to deGoogled. Summary for people that want to do the same

This post is aimed at people that are at the brink of doing the step to stop using services of Big-Tech like Google or Microsoft. I was there two months ago when I made the decision and can say it was worth it. I want to give a quick overview about the hassles and gains I had so that you, if you play with the thought of doing the same, know what will come at you. When I did the transformation I had to use a lot of my time to search and find replaces for the services and did not know where to start. I hope I can give you some information with that post, so that you can have a better start then I did.

First a disclaimer, I am a Computer Science student, so a lot of things came naturally to me or took not long to grasp. This should not discourage you; I just want to say that some parts could be a bit more difficult if you have no technical knowledge. It is still doable without any pre-knowledge, so far, the documentations I had to read were all good and explained everything you might need, or you can simply ask in forums the FOSS community is very helpful and kind.

Furthermore, I am open for any critic or suggestions of what I can do better or where I should go from here, and the obligatory: sorry any grammar mistakes, not my first language.

First of all, you need to know what you will give up, when you were used to the services like me you will have to adapt to a new way of doing things. Sounds dramatic but is just a reminder that some alternatives are simply not as good as the Big-Tech services. There is a reason why they invest millions into developing apps and services, it shows how much a skilled team can accomplish. Nonetheless, you pay with your data for these services, and I think it is way fairer and satisfying to donate money to a FOSS project or simply buy a service. So, you will lose a lot of comfort and convenience, but you will get used to it, at least I did.

The Process

When you use Google Drive, Calendar and all the other Google-Services the process will take longer because you need to export and import all your data that you need to alternatives. There will not be a β€œTransfer to new Device” function or a Google-login to just synchronize your settings. There are plenty of alternatives (I will list the ones I use a bit later) and you will have to migrate everything to them. What sounds like a big waste of your time is not that bad if you plan it. I migrated everything over the take of a week, migrating one to two hours a day. The first d

Why CH139 doesn't work: A respectful critic

This is my catharsis lol bear with me. Some disclaimers:

DON'T FIGHT OR INSULT EACH OTHER, you risk anything related to CH139 to the removed.

This is going to have critics about Yams' writing and Eremika, if you are too fanatic to take a critic you shouldn't read this.

I'm an alliance stan but there isn't a single character I dislike in this manga. I read the manga multiple times, so I can say I understand the story decently well. CH139 didn't ruin the story for me, Yams was younger than me when he wrote this story and I can't believe it, he's a true genius and he deserves everything he earned.

I'm 25 yo woman, I'm an engineer and I write as a hobby. I'm going to highlight what is meaningful about writing instead of making a full explanation of every concept. Definitely go to professionals to learn about writing, I'm not trying to teach anything here.

English isn't my first language so expect some shitty grammar.

I'm NOT going to consider anything from Yams' interviews because that's not written in the manga.

This post is going to cover what I found the worst parts of CH139, not the extra pages, CH138 or CH137.

It's been two months, let's discuss the ending

Eren being in love with Mikasa

Let's talk about everyone's favorite S1 character: miss Mikasa Ackerman.

Anyone who met Mikasa could tell she was in love with Eren... or her idea of Eren.

Mikasa is a lovable character, but she had the potential to be more. Her development stalled once Eren became humanity's hope. CH7 is her peak when she lead the recruits during the Trost arc.

Unlike Eren, she lacks the flaw in her personality that's preventing her from achieving a goal. It's hard to tell which are her ideals/goals in life since every decision is based on Eren, not herself, so we are left to assume her goal is "being with Eren". Because of this toxic nature, her goal and her flaw seem to be the same thing. She's bound to be an static character until Eren moves in a direction she can't follow, this happens in the last minutes of the manga (CH123 and so on) Very late for a main character to start moving.

The appeal of her character are superficial traits: she's pretty, devoted, badass and asian therefore she's the face of AoT and everyone's waifu. She's a great selling point for AoT.

In early chapters we see their relationship as siblings: Eren called her a jerk, they hit each other, Mikasa mothers him, Eren is very rough with her. This relationship became softer and

And my overall fave G1 characters are Prowl & Skywarp (both 84) too. There’s just something about those 85 bots and cons. They pop. They’re electric. So many classics in 85 too. See for yourselves I feel like most of the TFs that peeps think of when they think of G1 are from that particular year too. Shockwave. Dinobots. Devastator. Omega Supreme. Jetfire. Insecticons. We aren't dumb money, we're the natural evolution when internet meets investing.

My wife asked me how we're going to explain all this to our parents when the dust has settled. I've spent a long and hard time thinking about everything that's happened in the last six months. For us apes, who have been watching this thing unfold, it's incredible and amazing; but from the outside it's easy to write off because it requires countless hours of DD and memes to get to where we are now.

RETAIL HAS ALWAYS BEEN PAINTED AS DUMB MONEY.

But, we are not that. We're an aberration, something new. We're a disruption in a current ecosystem. Do you know why there are laws against transporting and planting certain seeds to different places? Big money agriculture aside, it's primarily because an external plant can actually completely disrupt an ecosystem. And that's what the internet does in every human system.

  • Amazon and online retailers changed the way we shop.
  • Uber/Lyft changed the way we view transportation
  • AirBnB changed the way we think of shelter when traveling
  • Instacart changed the idea of buying groceries.
  • Facebook/Twitter/Insta/Reddit/Wechat/Whatsapp/TikTok/etc changed how we communicate
  • Google changed how we find information and advertising
  • Wikipedia changed how we store and peer review public knowledge
  • Zillow/Redfin/Zip changed real estate.
  • Netflix/YouTube changed how we consume media
  • edit: Someone suggested I add Tinder/Match has changed how we date.

The list can go on and on and on, right?

What's important to take from this is that these things all offer services and experiences that are fundamentally different than what they were before. They have an entirely different set of strengths and weaknesses that hinges on the internet, and that's what makes it disruptive. Additionally, it's important to keep in mind that every disruptive system eventually gets used in ways, for good and bad, that it was never originally intended for.

And this, I argue, is what makes r/Superstonk a disruptive force in which the rest of the ecosystem will have to accommodate for now, going forward, in the same way other existing elements in other markets had to adapt to new disruptive forces or face extinction. We are the element that financial elites least wanted to evolve, but I argue we are an inevitable market force meant to balance against their abuse of the system.

RANT : I heard of favoritism but what the devs are doing with the new gohan is BS.

So it is ok to give the new LF gohan zenkai level stats but SSJ4 Gogeta and zamasu gets shafted ?

We have been begging the devs to raise the stats of LFs to be at least on bar with zenkais at higher stars and the anniversary looked like the perfect chance .

And what did they do ? They gave SSJ4 goegta and zamasu amazing kits but held back so hard on there stats.

Gogeta gets blown after his 80% cover cut is used and zamasu is made out of paper.

THEY ARE THE MAIN UNITES FOR THE ANNIVERSARY THEY SHOULD NOT BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS PREVIOUS LFs THEY SHOULD PUSH THE STATS CEILING.

THEY SHOULD B3 ON A LEAGUE OF THERE OWN.

But NOOOOOOOOOO its the fucking middle schooler who gets that treatment.

Sigh....

Look i know gogeta and zamasu are amzaing but they should have been the ones to push the boundaries of the game not gohan.

I know transforming units always have higher stats after they transform but come on this is way to much.

The stats deference compared to the "main anniversary units" is stupid.

And now this FUCKING RAT is going to buff FSK gohan, have fun with that.

Rant is over let me hear your thoughts on the matter. I just wanted to blow of some steam.

*This list will be continuously updated as I acquire new titles and upload them to my cloud storage. Be sure to check back every now and then or use the search bar.

Update: Currently at 961GB (last updated Jun. 28 / 2021)

Hello everyone. I made a post about two months ago sharing my library index (646GB at the time). I was working with 400GB of space back then so I went with a request format so people could comment and request titles on my list. However, I have since exceeded that storage space limit through the sheer number of requests I've been getting so I decided to purchase more space to accommodate everyone's needs. As a result, I now have enough space to upload my entire library which is what I have done. Please enjoy!

*This keeps coming up on my last post, so I will reiterate it here:

This is not a request post. I'm sharing what I have in my library. Please do not request titles that aren't listed below. Thank you. :)

If there's no quality specified, it's FLAC at 16bit / 44.1 or 48 kHz

[320] MP3 at 320kbps, when this number is 3 digits and not 16/24 it is always MP3 with the number indicating kbps

[24] FLAC at 24 bit, if the sampling rate is higher than 44.1/48kHz it will be specified

[MQA] will be specified after bit-rate

Discographies are studio albums mostly, some include EPs/Mixtapes/Live albums as well

All albums listed are complete, unless otherwise noted.

If there are multiple formats available within an album, they will be in separate sub folders.

Occasionally there will be albums with mixed formats, which will be noted.

There's a small percentage of titles that are labeled in FLAC but are actually upsampled MP3. Unfortunately I'm not quite sure which ones they are. I'd estimate this to be less than 3% of the collection.

Some video content are also included with certain titles.

I think that would be all for now. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions below.

dear rising seniors, a few tips on essays from my own process!

Disclaimer: What I write here is just some stuff I got out of my own college admissions experience, and in no way possible should it be taken as the ONLY way to do essays!

About me: hi, I'm an incoming freshman (wow, that's really weird to type) who just finished the college app process last season! I applied to over a dozen schools and was lucky enough to get into a few Ivies + T5s RD, but it also entailed a lot (think many thousands of words) of writing! All in all I think my essays were really important for me as an unhooked applicant who wasn't a legislation-drafting, science-researching, total mega-genius ahaha...

So without further ado!

THE PROCESS

  1. I know everyone says to start writing your essays early, which I heard a ton as a senior... and then did not do. I argue that it's okay if you haven't started now, because you /may/ have those transformative experiences senior summer that impact your trajectory and your goals. Don't stress if you haven't started - everyone goes at their own pace.
  2. That being said, that's not an excuse to procrastinate your essays. Set up a calendar come late August/early September at the latest for your supplementals, and start thinking about potential topics that you can write about - as well as supplementals you can reuse for different schools.
  3. There's always a bunch of discourse on who should read your essays... I won't get into that, because it genuinely depends on who you are as a writer. There's no one-size-fits-all for the revision process - are you a strong writer? Do you struggle with personal writing? Are you writing about things deeply personal to you and/or revealing?
    1. If you feel you're a weaker writer, I'd recommend having extra eyes on your essays - people you can trust to point out content flaws, flow, structure, etc. and clarify your message without muddying it. If you're a stronger writer, then I think it's up to your own judgement who you want looking at your essays.
  4. I found that I was 'done' with an essay when a) there were no more mechanical errors, b) there were no points that were particularly confusing, and c) when someone would offer content-based feedback on it, I'd disagree. To me, it showed I'd reached the point where I'd made my message and my story as clear as possible.

THE CONTENT

  1. This is kind of a given, but... no mechanical errors. Those stain your credibility as a student, I think... but yay that Grammarly is free for download!
  2. OWN YOUR CLICHES. I like to

Kaido's wife [SPOILER]

Warning: this theory contains HEAVY SPOILERS! If you’re not fully caught up with the manga, read at your own risk.

Since English isn’t my first language, I apologize in advance for any spelling/grammar mistakes. Also, this is my first time posting.

It’s practically obvious to everyone that we will get a Kaido flashback in this arc, whether he dies or not: of course, there will be a part about his time in the Rocks Pirates, but we will also get to know possibly one of the most important people for him: his wife.

Because, let’s face it, Oda hasn’t done much yet to give his personality some depth and not being just an arrogant, cruel, child-beating antagonist with a penchant for alcohol and an obsession for death, and a figure such a woman he loved could be a great opportunity for doing so.

Some might speculate that she’s actually dead and that’s why Kaido started drinking.

It could be true but, knowing Oda, he would never introduce a deceased character of that importance out of the blue, without some sort of foreshadowing: a well-kept grave located in a secret place where an important character stumbles upon in the Onigashima raid (on screen, obviously), a framed portrait on a desk or a wall, a name seemingly being thrown offhandedly in a conversation… but there is nothing in Wano which even remotely resembles one of those things.

Therefore, she must be alive.

(Also, there are already too much fundamental figures in various characters’ history who ended up dead in flashbacks, such as Bellemere, Rocinante, Russian and so on. Come on, Oda.)

Is she going to be someone new, at least?

Well, that’s a possibility, however in next arc(s) new characters will be introduced and One Piece has got more than a thousand of them already… quite a lot, aren’t they? Consequently, there is a very good chance for her to be someone who has been already introduced into the story.

Of course, there must have been some sort of foreshadowing when she had been introduced, too: she was the lover of a Yonko, after all. Has there been a woman with an unknown lover in the past arcs?

Yes, actually.

It was her:

And I believe that the mysterious man she fell in love with was none other than Kaido himself. But wait, there’s more: Gloriosa has also eaten a Devil Fruit. An extremely powerful one.

Don’t worry, I will explain every

LoR champion skins vs Other games

So today the new Pool Party skins just launched and i really wanted to buy the Fiora Pool Party skin, because i really liked it and that way i could support the devs with this amazing game. But god dam are the prices for the skins just insane for just one card.

I will compare LoRs skin vs another TCG I've played and also spent money in called Shadowverse, just to give an example of how overpriced this skins are:

For 10 Dollars you get:

LoR:

  • 2 new jpgs (I'm counting the champion art+ the transformation)
  • Thats it. (unless you want to spend even more money for the ones that have a new animation)

Shadowverse:

  • A new leader (think of it as a new pet in LoR)
  • Emblem/Icon
  • New Card Sleeves
  • A flair
  • New animations for the new leader
  • New Voice lines for the new leader

I really would love to further support this game with the new skins but they REALLY need to fix the prices on them, either by making them cheaper or adding more stuff to them like sleeves, icons, new effects, voice lines, just anything that actually justifies the price of them. DAD JOKES ARE NOT DIRTY.

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Thank you,

A Dad.

Since everyone is worried about FUD this weekend, I just wanted to say something positive as a Veteran who observes your community.

Hey guys,

A lot of people have been concerned about the shills and all the other trash that is going on with the subreddit. I just wanted to state a few brief observations I have made about this community since this has all started. You see, back when I was a boy in the U.S. I joined the Marines and spend a short period of my life in the service. I don't want to do dig into that, this post isn't about me. This is about you.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I have never seen a more amazing transformation of worthless apes in my entire life. Fun fact, basic training is 3 months long if you enlist in my branch of former service.

You apes have been sharpening your teeth for longer than this. Studying, mastering, learning about charting and preparing. The level of talent brought to the table; personally has blown me away. I honestly wish I got any kind of training this detailed during my time in the service. I have grown more wrinkles in my brain more during this entire period of time, than in any point in my entire life. It's not easy to teach a group of crayon eating apes how to basic tasks, but it absolutely can be done.

If it only takes three months to turn a worthless sack of shit, such as myself; into a trained, fit and motivated Marine... These hedgies have no idea what they are in for when you guys continue to beef up your knowledge and grow closer and closer as a community.

I like the stock and if I may be allowed a brief moment of cockiness... Hedgies, when a Marine is committed to his task, he does not fail. I will not waiver, you cannot break my focus. My mission and purpose are clear. I will hold my shares until the task is finished. The mission isn't over, but rest assured. I'll be there holding tight when it is.

Semper Fidelis is latin for always faithful. Be true to that my fellow apes.

πŸ’ŽπŸ™Œ

Edit: Some minor grammar shit because I lodged a crayon too deep in my nose.

'If I don't get a film, I will start a canteen in Film City' - Sushant Singh Rajput | 2015

Sushant Singh Rajput will be seen next in Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, where he plays the famous detective.

The shy actor talks about the film, Shah Rukh Khan and his marriage plans, in this interview with Patcy N/ Rediff.com

Have you seen the TV serial Byomkesh Bakshi?

I have, but not as preparation for this film. I saw it as a kid, so I have a very vague memory of how he carried himself, and the track of the serial.

After I finished shooting for the film, I watched the episodes again.

The character of Byomkesh in the film is very different from the TV serial.

Of course it is. Rajat Kapoor’s Byomkesh always knew who he was and why he was the way he was. He knew exactly what he was doing and his cases were different in every episode. He developed a very strong, inherent style over the years.

My Bymokesh is fresh out of college; he doesn’t know what to do, is fascinated by everything that is complex, and wants to seek the truth. He handles a very complicated case that has to do with the underworld, the Americans, the Chinese, and the Japanese and the opium trade.

Gradually, he understands who he is, and then he transforms into a seasoned, mature and level-headed detective.

Did you read the novel by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay that features Byomkesh?

Yes, I read it before I worked in the film, as homework. I wanted to know everything that he wrote about Byomkesh Bakshy, and the Calcutta of the 1940s. The character in our film is quite similar to the characterisation of Bakshy in the book.

What is different is the American army, and the opium trade. There was no international angle in the book, but the fact is this did happen in the Calcutta of the 1940s.

The other things that are different is the mode of communication, Dibakar’s grammar and the music, which is very contemporary as we are catering to the youth of today.

How did you prepare for the role?

I spent about four or five months preparing for the film. I looked at the history because in the film, when I say my dialogues, I talk about things and I had to know the history behind it.

I learnt about the culture of Calcutta of the 1940s.

I stayed in Calcutta for a couple of months before we started shooting. I had normal, casual interactions with the people out there.

Did you learn the language?

No, there is no Bengali spoken in the film.

It’s like watching Gladiator (which is set in Rome and the language spoken is Latin) in Englis
