A list of puns related to "Tornadogenesis"
As tornadoes are a rotating column of air that gets pushed toward the ground, would it coming into contact with skyscrapers and other large structures such as a city center cause enough turbulence within the mesocyclone to inhibit or at least weaken a burgeoning tornado? Additionally would a developed tornado hitting a large urban center be significantly weakened as it passed through?
I've been dicking around and reading past synoptic situations and within the overview for the Elie, Manitoba F5 saw that the lake breeze was seen as having an influence on the development of the supercell and, later, the tornados it birthed.
I'm looking for stuff that discusses urban heat islands, lake breezes, basins and valleys, mountains and hills, all that good shit that can make or break a storm over one specific area.
This is really pushing the limit of reasonable expectations, but if anybidy has anything specifically pertaining to the northern Illinois region, that would be extremely helpful.
Thank you!
This video (#1):

presents a much different explanation of why tornadoes form than this video (#2):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bHSS1ImFQI
Video #2 offers the much more common explanation I've seen of tornadogenesis, but it always seemed unlikely since tornadoes are supposed to form top to bottom. Video #2 suggests they form bottom to top. Video #1 corrects that, so it's more believable.
What is the most modern theory of how tornadoes form?
I was wondering if anyone else here has followed Leigh Orf's work over the past ~4 years (http://orf.media/)? He is in the vein of Wilhelmson in re: modeling, though Orf's work has taken it a step further, especially given the sheer amount of supercomputing power that BlueWaters has.
The question to many people who work in Mesoscale Severe Weather, specifically tornadogenesis is: where does the air in a tornado actually come from? This seems like such a simple question to ask, but it does have some implications for many things, both known and unknown. As Orf has modeled, the air that is being ingested into the burgeoning tornado (as well as the mature tornado) seems to be coming from all over; but what about the end vortices of the burgeoning tornado? Will we ever be able to truly understand the moment when the vortex is actually born? I feel like I understand vortex breakdown much more, especially given much of Orf's work, but what about the vortex birth?
Lastly, the "streamwise vorticity current" (SVC) being ingested at great speed into the storm is both fascinating to look at as well as imagine, though there are many more questions, most specifically, how does the air coming from the RFD affect the SVC (or vice-versa), and how does this balance (or imbalance) affect the burgeoning tornado? Either way, my apologies for the ramble. I suppose there are a few questions buried in here for anyone!
I received this email from a Meteorologist today, they want to get people in the know for potential dangerous weather tonight so I thought it'd be good to share here. All of the following text is directly from the email from the Meteorologist, I took out their name for privacy.
TL:DR; Be safe tonight. Plan on being in a place that has a tornado shelter accessible to you. Secure your outside christmas decorations and anything that might be affected by high winds! Tell your friends and family so they are aware!
This is probably the strangest email I have ever written about weather. But here we go. Also, this email is going out to all my lists β even northern MN. Some of this stuff will not apply to you specifically, but this is the type of event where it would be nice if you told friends and family to be weather aware tonight. This is a very volatile and unusual setup. Social science research has indicated that having friends and family share weather information is a powerful way reinforce the risk that meteorologists are talking about. Given that we are near the Holidays, this event will happen after dark, and storms will be moving around 70mph later β please share with friends and family. People wonβt be thinking about tornadoes in December and may hear a warning and even think itβs erroneous. Having social reinforcement of the messages you hear elsewhere go a long way.
So here are the hazards today:
Yesterdayβs widespread tornado threat didnβt produce to nearly the magnitude forecasted. Although several tornado warnings were issued, it seems the cap that was expected to erode hung on strong and kept storms from maturing.
Only 1 day after the event, itβs nearly impossible to find anybody still talking about it, discussing why the threat wasnβt ultimately realized. Do you think there would be benefits to informing the public on why more dangerous storms were not able to materialize, so they wouldnβt be left thinking the mets just βgot the forecast wrongβ?
I understand the vast majority of those included in the risk area donβt care to know much about tornadogenesis, but if we could begin breaking down scenarios like yesterdayβs in more simple terms, especially POST EVENT, could there be benefit?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
NOTE FOR THE MODS: If this isn't the place to post this, PLEASE tell me where to. Thanks.
Hey, all. I'm currently stuck doing landscaping, and frankly, I'm bored out of my mind. I make next to nothing, and I'm tired of working as if my only value is having a pulse. I want to be able to work remotely, so as to free myself up, but I'm not sure what I should get into. I would love to get a degree, but, money and time are kind of an issue. I understand that, no matter what, I'm gonna have to put the time in, but I'd like to do it in a manner where I can learn at my own pace instead of dealing with stuff like I did when studying python on Udemy: being spoon-fed information, with no applicable context, and at a snail's pace, to where the subject just became drier than tax law.
I like the idea of designing, and I like problem-solving. I really, REALLY like discrete math, and I have a knack for languages and am interested in encryption (though I have no formal training in any of the above, but am self-taught/going off of intuition.)
I've considered remote IT, building/programming robots, compiling data for mathematical simulations to help meteorologists that are studying tornadogenesis; maybe building software to help students visualize mathematics....maybe something to do with operating systems, and also software engineering for phone apps, but there are just so. many. different branches of those topics alone, that, I am having an incredibly hard time finding an exhaustive rundown of all of this. If at all possible, I would be incredibly grateful if someone would be willing to help me out with this. I want to be able to make some decent money, but I'm not looking to be Scrooge McDuck, or anything. Last thing: I have a criminal record. Misdemeanor drug/alcohol convictions, but nonetheless, a criminal record. I hope that's something to work with.
If you guys have any contacts that would be willing to chat with me, I'd also like that. I'm looking for all the help I can get. If I can just get a few pins in the map, that will allow me to research the rest.
Thanks.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments

Nothing, he was gladiator.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
