Tamla Horsford went to a sleepover party and was found dead the next morning in the backyard as if she had fallen from a balcony above. However, the incongruous placement of the body and the fact that it continued bleeding after death called this into question.
A brief case summary from https://www.wbrc.com/2020/09/08/authorities-looking-into-black-womans-death-party-georgia/:
In November 2018, Horsford went to a friendβs sleepover birthday party at a home in north Georgia. The next morning, the 40-year-old was found in her pajamas, unresponsive in the back yard.
The Forsyth County Sheriffβs Office initially ruled Horsfordβs death an accident, concluding she fell from a second-story balcony.
The autopsy uncovered a blood alcohol level of .23, nearly three times the legal driving limit in Georgia. Traces of Xanax and marijuana were also found.
Her family suspect foul play, as they detail here https://www.theroot.com/family-of-black-woman-who-died-attending-a-slumber-part-1845029768:
But according to people attending the partyβas well as photos and videos taken from that nightβHorsford didnβt appear incoherent or sick at any point in that night.
So how, her family and friends say, did she manage to fall over a four-foot railing to her death, as police claim she did?
βNever ever ever have I seen my sister sloppy drunk and incoherent. So I doubt that she would pick a sleep-over with people she was just getting to know to start behaving that way,β Jones said.
There were some questions about whether the body had been moved, detailed here https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/tamla-horsford-death-georgia-1026889/:
The last person to see Horsford was Bridget Fuller, who was picked up by her husband at 1:47. In her statement, Fuller says that Horsford was eating a bowl of gumbo, and had said she planned to smoke a cigarette and head to bed. Over the next ten minutes, the home security system registered the back door opening, closing, and then opening again β for the last time β at 1:57 a.m.
The FSCO pointed to the toxicology report, which tested positive for THC and clocked her Blood Alcohol Content at .238, just shy of three times the legal limit to drive. With a BAC typically associated with blackouts, loss of coordination, and even vomiting, the FCSO determined that marijuana and alcohol use likely contributed to the fall. They also noted the door alarm log, as well as an unlit cigarette and lighter Barrera said he found on the upper
... keep reading on reddit β‘I heard about the Slumber Party of Death case and donβt understand how the police can get away with such ignorance. Although there may had been a lack of evidence at the time, the police shouldβve atleast raised suspicion and not rule the case an accidental death, it evidently wasnβt.
It should at least be suspicious how the security footage was βaccidentally deletedβ before the police reached the scene. Even after her death, the friends that she stayed over the slumber party with didnβt treat it as βoh I just lost a close friendβ, but started to make up things about her to make it seem like she was a drug addict and alcoholic. One of the βfriendsβ was also a police officer so when he started fiddling with the crime scene after calling the police, he shouldβve know the procedures- donβt touch the body.
Then police even got back the phone call and it had a moment of silence in the recording. Itβs like the call went on mute and they were discussing something as their dead friend was laying there on the ground. The police didnβt even treat it as a real case, they didnβt separate the suspects so they didnβt talk to each other or take official statements. One of the officers even know one of the suspects there and itβs like they didnβt try.
I suspect itβs because sheβs a person of colour. This case was too suspicious to be dropped.
Did anyone else feel like the handling of Tamla's case kind of lacking? This was a case where race plays a huge factor in the police follow up, the lack of media recogniction, and the fact she was the only person of color at this "adult slumber party." The photo from that night with all of them is haunting...
The BLM mentions at the end just felt really hallow to me? Also, I don't think Tamla's family and friends were "just feeling a little distrustful of the system," after the USB drive was lost. I'm sure Tamla and her families knew these systems weren't built for them so they needed to fight like hell for justice because justice wasn't coming in other way.
I remember listening to an one episode about Tamla Horsford, I think it was MFM, but Iβm really wanting to learn more.
Iβm open to any recommendations!
does anyone have any information in regards to this case? police have seemingly stalled the investigation of Tamlaβs death after dying at a sleepover where she was the only black woman in attendance with 7 white women and 3 white men.
